  1. Hello, It's been a while since I last posted here looking for advice getting my system ready for use while trying to find a monitor. I am happy to announce that I did find an NEC AccusyncLCD51VM at a Goodwill store for $5 that works perfectly! I was able to hook it up with a cable I ordered from Cool Novelties in the UK (I live in the US, and it was the only one I could find), and it boots to the classic green desktop. It appears I have TOS 1.00, and my mouse has seen better days. I took it apart and cleaned it somewhat, but it still doesn't track quite right. I also need to test my floppy drive; it sounds like it's trying to initialize, but I need to research how to format disks from a PC. Yes I still have an internal floppy drive on one of my computers (I have an external as well). 5 dollars and a lot of patience, I'm glad to see it running!
  2. I'm using one from Cool Novelties, https://coolnovelties.co.uk/coolnovelties/atari-st-video-cables/290-atari-st-to-vga-multi-sync-rgb-colour-monitor-cable.html?search_query=Atari+st&results=33
  3. Hello, I am a newish member of the forums and I have searched for answers, but can't seem to find exactly what I'm after. I have a 1040 STF that was in a closet for about the last 16 years that I bought at a yard sale for $5. Since I was just a kid I didn't realize what I had actually purchased, and quickly realized I had no way of hooking up a monitor, so in the closet it went. Anyways, I purchased a VGA cable to hook it up to my monitor; I know the stipulations about the 15KHz, but I wanted to just see if it worked at all, and figured the hi-res mode should work with my monitor. When I turn it on, I usually get nothing, my monitor says it's waiting for a signal. Sometimes I get a black screen, sometimes I get a constant adjusting picture. One time I got a pink and green flash. What I want to find out, is there a way to toggle hi-res mode without first being able to see anything on the display? I really want to know if it works before I go in search of the elusive multi-sync monitor. I have enough monitors at home, that I don't want to spend that kind of money unless the ST works. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!
  4. Hello, this is my first post here, but hopefully far from the last! I recently rediscovered an old 1040STf that I left at my parents house when I left home to go to school. I remember purchasing the computer at a yard sale for $5 in the box. Anyways, I am not lucky enough to have the model with a composite video output, and have done some research on how to hook this guy up without an original monitor. My burning question is: what should I do with the system while I wait to source out a monitor setup? Are there internal components I should clean or look to replace? How about cleaning the case? It's pretty yellowed, and I'd love to restore it to it's former glory! If anyone is interested, I'm happy to take some pictures of my newly rediscovered treasure. Thank you!
