  1. Thanks! I'll share my progress as I make my way forward! Might not be for a few days as I've got a few other things and projects going on.
  2. Awesome, thanks for the heads up! I clipped out the power supply that was installed in the battery bay. The caps were all leaky and I already have an external power brick. When I have some time, I'll next try to check to see if it starts up without the hard drive?
  3. Welp, that didn't work... looks like I will have to open it up to investigate further lol...
  4. Just an update - I'm not too familiar with the Stacys but it looks like my unit was modded to incorporate the power supply and a 3 prong power connector? Since I have an external power brick, I'm thinking if I somehow disconnect this internal power supply it might solve my problem? Upon closer inspection, the power supply's caps look like they're in bad shape.
  5. I recently came into possession of a Stacy2 (I still can't believe I actually have one), but the trade off is that the unit doesn't seem to boot / power up successfully. It was able to successfully power on and boot to the desktop only once when plugged into the external power brick. I also tried powering it up when plugged directly into the 3 prong power input with no success. I have it plugged into a SC1224 monitor and when I turn the laptop on, the 1 and 2 lights flash briefly and the monitor goes white. After that, nothing. Any pointers into what I should look at? The unit has definitely seen some use and was probably repaired at some point in the past. The plastic panel that covers the internal power supply is held on by tape. Appreciate any tips/pointers/advice! (Also, if anyone knows of someone in the Seattle area that may be able to look at it, I would love to get in touch with that person!)
  6. I agree it is a nonsensical decision by the USPS and does feel like a cash grab... especially when it's ok to ship a Dungeons and Dragons rulebook via Media Mail but not a Dungeons and Dragons computer game. Computer and console games are culturally and historically significant in my opinion.
  7. Link: https://pe.usps.com/text/csr/PS-334.htm A 2014 ruling states: "While video games may be read on computers, unlike books or films eligible for Media Mail prices, which predominantly further educational or informational goals, games, including board games and games in an electronic format, are used primarily for entertainment and they do not serve the same purpose as books, films, or other qualifying Media Mail... In conclusion, video games, whether on CD-ROM, diskettes, or similar software, regardless of form, or playable systems including computers, do not meet the standards for Media Mail." Unless there was a more recent decision that overrides this, USPS pretty much spells it out here.
  8. Congrats Ianoid! I too hope there is some really good stuff in that box!
  9. Oh man, if I knew you were going to sell ST's, I would have held off on buying a STF locally a few weeks back lol... Hope you had a good time at PRGE! I can vouch for mattsoft. Great seller!
  10. It's a shame Apple stuck the IIGS with such a slow processor. Despite that, I'm appreciative of what developers were able to do on that platform - especially in the sound department. The AGI Sierra adventures that were published for the IIGS utilized the system's sound capability. The port of Rastan was pretty great, as well as Arkanoid (which a poster above mentioned). I'm still impressed games like Wolf3D and Another World were released on the platform (despite compromises in screen size). And dammit I still need to find a copy of Ultima I for my IIGS. The Amiga and ST had more horsepower obviously. And while the game library of the IIGS is nowhere near as deep as the Amiga and ST, I really enjoy what it does have. Some interesting videos: Rebecca Heineman's experiences coding games for the IIGS: Sword of Sodan running on the IIGS:
  11. The USPS link on Media Mail does state under qualified items (https://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/173.htm), "Computer-readable media containing prerecorded information and guides or scripts prepared solely for use with such media." But that is so vague that I guess they leave it up to the inspector to make the call? So I guess if there's a catalog or a flyer advertising other products included with the contents of the software package, that may be a disqualifier. I just tend to avoid Media Mail unless I'm shipping a book.
  12. The curiosity is eating at me... I'd like to offer $65 + shipping. I live in Seattle, so shipping will likely not be too bad. I may want to avoid Media Mail just because it's such a big shipment.
  13. I purchased the first IIGS Mattsoft had for sale a few days earlier. Great guy! I've been nothing but happy!
