#4236261 Cracked Magazine (November 1982)

Posted by DoctorSpuds on Mon Mar 11, 2019 2:00 PM

It looks like the guys at Cracked decided to jump on the arcade craze like everybody else.

I haven't been able to find any information on this particular issue and it seems to be fairly rare with the only one on Ebay being listed at $100 and with no sold listings. Here are scans of the magazine for all to enjoy. I'll have a download link to higher quality scans HERE

What a thoroughly confusing and unpleasant game, I think I'll just take participation points for this round.

Thanks Steve! Good score to start, it definitely gets pretty difficult on the later levels.

Any feedback about difficulty ramping, skill levels, etc. is greatly appreciated!

Man I think you hit the nail on the head difficulty-wise, but man I keep getting my ass kicked on the arena, but that's mostly my fault since I keep thinking that hiding in the corners will keep me safe.

#4157282 Early revision catalog w/Pac-Man & other differences

Posted by DoctorSpuds on Wed Nov 14, 2018 4:45 PM

Alright I have a gallery up with scans of all the pages. Check it out HERE

Also I was very confused when you mentioned the misspelling of Yars' Revenge since the catalog I was using to compare the two actually had it spelled correctly, I checked the # and it was CO16725-Rev. D just like the other two. Could this be another variation?

The top is the new version that is the subject of this topic the middle is the one I used to compare and the third is the one you used to compare. It seems we've got these things coming out of our ears around here.

I have recently acquired the catalog and will get some high quality scans on here somewhere, maybe in a gallery or for download somewhere. I have also found another difference between the two, the picture they use for the original Breakout is reversed in the standard manual while in the other version it is not.

Another one of these has turned up in Wisconsin of all places.

Weird catalog.jpg

It came in with a small lot of boxed games, oddly enough the only Atari brand game is a sealed Pole Position, the rest were either CBS or Parker bros. These things found their way into circulation somehow. A mystery indeed.

Ouch! Let's hope the fuse blew before something else blew if you feed 115V into equipment expecting 9V.

From the looks, and smell of it, only the fuse blew. I've done my fair share of chip/board frying and this doesn't have the "melting circuit board/internally dying chip" smell. If it did I wouldn't have bought it.

does it work ok?  How does it feel?

Any chance of opening it up and taking a picture, I would love to see the wiring job in that if it is possible...  sounds like an interesting project someone did.

Yep Its a Mod Job and it's quite messy. When being used you have to hold the controller backwards because it was wired in reverse. It also has a dead zone the size of Kansas

Yes that is Duct Tape.

#4021326 Odd label

Posted by DoctorSpuds on Fri May 4, 2018 5:28 PM

It seems that the blue label Activision games weren't the only ones prone to mislabeling I've got a Keystone Kapers that has the same exact thing. Though judging by the way this particular thread is going I doubt anybody really cares about the original topic of upside down labels, but hey... its fun, and finding weird shit is probably the best part of collecting. In my opinion, of course.
