Ta for the replies. So it seems the Genesis pads are the solution then. Is there a list online of the games that have been hacked to take advantage of this second button? Sounds interesting.

I used the classic joystick back in the day, but when I got back into the 8 bit era at the turn of the century, I had moved on to gamepads and used an Amstrad GX4000 one (!) to play on a VCS. Now a few years later, I would like recommendations for other game controllers with the d-pad and fire buttons that work well on the machine. What do you use to play VCS games with?
