  1. This is a server update for the Atari Age forums since this is largely where things began 2+ years ago. I hope the mods do not mind my sharing a new invite link since the previous one is apparently expired. https://discord.gg/UDu5ztY ----------------- I can't recall where we left off last time I posted... I know I could look but for the sake of being lazy I'll just list off all the communities calling the server home as of AUGUST 2020 Analogue Run by the community, Analogue as a company may lurk but they do not participate. Kevtris does however interact with the community regularly MiSTer Sorg doesn't partake because he likes the forums... but the server has pretty much become the official Discord community for the FPGA project with a ton of developer activity TERRAONION Officially run by those who run the store front. Bliss-Box Again, officially run by the developers behind the product RetroArch An offshoot from their own server. The lead developer posts regular updates and etc FXPAK (SD2SNES) Ikari run and controlled XSTATION Run by the developers behind this new (At the time of writing) hotness for the PS1 Black Dog Technologies PS1Digital + DcDigital+ anything else these developers are working on ------------------------ Bottom line the server is under constant change due to demand and developers requesting a space of their own. My saying will forever be "We are stronger together"... hence our neutral stance towards all retro projects / products (Though some do get made fun of because that's just how the cookie crumbles... looking at you Polymega). The server is open to anyone, I look forward to seeing you on the server if you are not already... if you decide to give it a chance. Reach out to me if you need anything. Best regards, Kevin
  2. Every time I think the server is good to go for a long while something pops up to cause changes. Be it security updates or a new project joining the server (RetroArch being the latest) Classic Gaming I feel will forever be in a state of evolution.
  3. Just a small update. Invite link to the server has changed. https://discord.gg/UDu5ztY
  4. 1. Download the desktop app, the web version isn't worth suffering with. 2. You are correct, the voice channels are not used often. We keep them there in the off chance people need them or for mod / community meetings. 3. If you get the phone app make sure you block the app from giving you notifications... they can add up and get annoying if you are in several servers. ------------------ I find every channel is the same when it comes to maturity, though some like the MiSTer channel(s) are a bit more technical in discussion due to the active developers. The best part of the server in my opinion is the fact you can have both casual and serious development discussions. Want to talk with people developing for the MiSTer / SD2SNES project and possibly help them? You can do that. Want to talk about gaming in general? You can do that too.
  5. You do you, nothing wrong with sticking to forums. We've done the best we can to keep things organized, it took a long time + some trial & error to reach where we are at. Partake in the discussion happening at the moment and not the one you may have started or taken part in priorly but has been washed away by the scrollbar. You can also bring up the topic again. Once you stop trying to keep up things become much easier, hell I have no idea what is going on 90% of the time. If I am needed they ping me.
  6. As far as I am aware we are the largest retro gaming related Discord server. The type of growth I myself would be keen on would be more groups joining the server to call it their home on Discord. Having both the SD2SNES and Analogue community together did wonders for bringing people with similar interests together... and the amount of collaboration going on in the MiSTer group is fun to follow. If we had other retro projects that deserve their own section on the server I think everyone would be ecstatic about having more people join what has become a fairly technically minded server. We've somehow managed to create a balance between those working on retro projects we love and the regular users without either side feeling annoyed and / or left out. There are no doubt more "professional" servers for developers, but we bridge both worlds nicely... just don't ask me how it happened. All I've ever done is act as a server-wide babysitter. It's the people on the server that have made it into what it is.
  7. Yeah Discord seems to be taking over everything community related. Forums will always have a purpose... but as you can see from my post count I don't spend a lot of time on here or any forum. I just figured for the servers birthday I may as well update the forum that got it started.
  8. I'm taking some time today to update this forum community on the status of a Discord server that was created a year ago as of yesterday (03/01). Without people from AtariAge I don't think the server would be what it is today. If you are unaware of the Classic Gaming Discord server we are a group that started off as the unofficial Analogue Community server when the Super Nt was on the verge of coming out last year. Over time as we grew it was decided the server name had to be changed and what we have now is a server which is home to several different (Yet related) communities. Analogue Kevtris hangs around, so do a few Analogue employees (Though they are not tagged) SD2SNES Ikari runs this corner of our server. He posts firmware updates for the SD2SNES and speaks to people on a near daily basis. MiSTer FPGA Lots of smart people doing cool things I myself don’t pay any attention to (Not because I don't care... just so many updates / projects I can't keep up). ---------- We also have a variety of other more generic channels for people to use. -------- As of writing this we have 1500+ members (We try to prune the bots and so forth as much as we possibly can) with an average growth rate of 3 - 5 users daily (Though we expect faster growth for the next few months due to the newly released SD2SNES PRO and soon to be shipped Mega Sg). If you haven’t popped in already I invite you to do so, otherwise I wish you all the best and will post another update next year. Hope the forum mods don’t mind me sharing the Discord link. https://discord.gg/EX57xnF Best regards, Kevin Lee
  9. I've asked for the message to be deleted, did so last night actually. https://discord.gg/EX57xnF Hopefully that one never expires haha
  10. I am indeed just a guy that so happens to be named "Kevin" that made a Discord server. I do not know Kevtris or anything about his work outside of what I read / watch throughout the net like everyone else. -------------------------------- I do however see the humor in the fact we so happen to share the same first name -------------------------------- It started out as a Super Nt server but was quickly changed to just include all Analogue consoles. It would be nice if Kevtris joins, but no one expects him to I don't expect or think the Discord server will take over or replace any forum -------------- It's just fun to have a place to chat about the Super Nt and anything to do with it. If it evolves to become more than that by perhaps being one of the places the firmware / jailbreak developers go to get feedback and / or testers so be it. I'll set up whatever is required for those people to make their life easier. Personally if I was helping with the firmware / jailbreak I'd welcome an easily accessible 250+ people that will see anything I write as a community update.
  11. Hey everyone, I'm the Kevin Lee behind the recently created Analogue Community Discord Server. https://discord.gg/JdZ5SS7 Link should never expire ------------------------------ Before I say anything I'd like to clear a few things up... I am not Kevtris nor does he have anything to do with it (Though we all hope he joins eventually) I have nothing to do with Analogue I am not a front for someone important to this community --------------------- So why create the server? Simple. One did not exist, and from Google searches hoping to find a more dedicated space to discuss the hardware with other fans of the product it was clear the community was fragmented amongst many forums. Discord being what it is I hope this centralizes the community a bit more than a forum ever could. Discord is free, and the Windows / Mac / Mobile Apps are not so bad (Avoid the web browser version if at all possible). Like it or not Discord has pretty much become the go-to standard for online communities when it comes to chatting and / or voice chat. ------------------- We will keep the community up to date on the latest Analogue news / updates I know the majority of you are more than capable of looking up when new firmware releases and what not... but we will be putting out server wide notices whenever an update hits either the official firmware or the Jailbreak. SmokeMonster has joined the server and seems more than willing to field questions and give us updates when / if he can. P.S. I know SmokeMonster is a popular guy because of what he does... but I'd suggest avoiding slamming the guy with mentions and what. No need to overwhelm or scare him off haha -------------- I know you guys here on AA are a passionate bunch. I know sometimes that causes friction (I'm new here, but I've heard stories...). If you decide to join the Discord server please try to keep it chill, I'm trying my best to leave it as unmoderated as humanly possible and so far with 200+ members it seems to be working out well that way. --------------- I think that about covers it, I hope to see you guys / gals around in the Discord server if you have an Analogue console or if you're just interested. Best regards, Kevin (Not Kevtris) Lee
