  1. How the fuck do you homebrew a PC game? Isn't that just called "making a PC game?"
  2. Seeing as they're supposedly hoping to license off this to a third party will that third party run the storefront too? No way Atari SA is competent enough to manage one.
  3. I think no one in their right mind would port to the VCS, but porting to Linux on Steam which has an estimated userbase of between 1 and 2 million is generally a pretty solid choice. The real question is the VCS store. I doubt even VCS owners will buy from the VCS store over Steam.
  4. Doesn't that just make me even more right as then they would have even less owners dragging the number down further? Or is there some place in that calculation they get removed?
  5. Also if your game isn't shit you're more likely to also get onto curated storefronts like GOG or Humble and we don't have sales numbers for either of those. I know I personally buy games from them like half of the time.
  6. I think this number might be skewed in the opposite direction by the thousands of zero effort asset flip scam kusoge that have ruined Steam. Games that are not complete irredeemable garbage probably have a bit of an easier time.
  7. I think you're vastly overstating how hard it is to port a game to Linux, especially a Unity one.
  8. Wonder how long it's gonna take the true believers to crack...
  9. Thankfully there's going to be no games on the system so it won't have a possibility to perform poorly.
  10. Re: RAM and PSU. Don't they already have only 4GB anyway? Add on a shitty chinese housefire PSU because you have a low TDP anyway and the fact they could manufacture the board themselves and I don't see why they couldn't do it for $300. Wasn't it going to be $300?
  11. That UDOO Bolt thing looks sick for the specs/price. If Atari really hasn't finalized the hardware at all and are targeting around the same price point they should probably literally steal that thing's specs and focus their manufacturing efforts on manufacturing the case well enough that they can sell at 299 USD or whatever with some decent profit margins.
  12. There's been an interesting development in the Linux space over the past few months, dxvk, a DX11 to Vulkan wrapper you add on top of WINE. So far it's allowing near native performance of DX11 titles and may eventually surpass native performance, supposedly already the case with a few games like Nier: Automata on certain setups, like what happened to DX9 on Linux like 12 years ago. I think you still have to pay a bit of a CPU tax though and I'm not sure how this machine's CPU will do.
  13. Pretty sure they're just talking out of their ass. Nothing's gonna stop you from booting to a plugged in secondary hard drive and doing whatever you want with the eMMC. (Not because of any restrictions, but because you can't easily wipe or partition whatever you're booted off of.)
  14. GPL License means that you have to also release any changes you make to the source code under the same license. When it comes to consoles and that sort of stuff Linux is for people with no resources to be able to start with more permissive BSD licensed stuff instead,
  15. At the rate the BackerTracker projections are falling every day I doubt this thing is even going to hit 4 mil raised total. As far as actual consoles sold I think we'll likely hit 10,000 but not 11,000.
