  1. I never have but I'd sure like to. April works a lot better for me than the fall.
  2. Just over a year ago my system had the same problem. Turned out to be problems with the RAM expander which had to be repaired...
  3. Ye gods, what does a TI do with a euro symbol? I'd never considered it as an issue before...
  4. Yeah but on a real Atari keyboard (there isn't an end key but it maps to the Atari key I guess) they're all right next to each other. I don't know how you'd do this without a numeric keypad.
  5. Has anybody successfully played Ultima II on Atari800MacX? I've gotten it to work, well mostly, but the keys are all over the place, * to go east, + (but only on the number pad) to go west, ] is north and end is south. The game is impossible this way...
  6. Frys has suffered the same fate as Radio Shack, there isn't much profit from real geek stuff so they expanded into general consumer goods and then laid off all the employees who knew anything because they cost too much. Now no real geek will shop there because none of the employees know anything. Same thing happened to Sears and who knows how many other stores.
  7. After much head scratching and gnashing of teeth its done. Just an FYI, if you can get FujiNet-Flasher to run but it won't see the device try a different USB cable. The first one I tried didn't work but since I was on a cobbled together Linux live disk into a Mac I didn't consider the possibility. I finally dug out a Windows machine (and dealt with the fact that it hadn't been turned on for many months) and it also couldn't see my Fujinet device at which point I tried a different cable and it worked perfectly...
  8. Figures. I'm clearly not smart enough. For my next magical trick I tried installing Windows in VirtualBox. Windows works but Virtualbox doesn't see the Fujinet and thus won't pass it to Windows. For my next, next magical trick I'm thinking to make a boot USB of Linux for my Mac. Is there any flavor more likely to work?
  9. *beats head on desk* FINALLY got Python not only updated but pointed to the right link. FYI, if you're a newbie like me add: #!/usr/bin/env python3 alias python='python3' Into .bash_profile Doesn't change anything though. Do I need Python 3.7 specifically?
  10. Hey all, I run the MacOS Fujinet flasher but nothing happens. If I open it in a terminal window I see the following: I'm running Mac OS 10.12.6, which I know is kind of old but it doesn't seem like that's my issue. A quick Google search suggests Python is missing which is probably true, I'm no programmer, don't even play one on tv...
  11. The power draw off a PI is pretty small, we're talking a max of say 2a @ 5v so maybe 10w at the most. Get a buck converter that has USB ports and 35ah wheelchair battery from Harbor Freight. That'll give you 20+ hours of run time without damaging the battery for less than $100
  12. Dang, thats tempting. I do miss my 1027. I remember my teachers being amazed that I had "typed out the project on a typewriter" while my fellow students had to deal with dot matrix from a Mac...
  13. In the best of times I'm just barely smart enough to use the TIPI at all. I got through the commands above and get M5FFD = 0x0 M5FFF = 0x0 over and over. I dug around and found my Mini Memory cart and did the tests in the troubleshooting guide, C1000 seems to act as described most of the time. Sometimes 01 is already there, in those cases when I shut the TI off the TIPI LED comes on and I need to power cycle it before the TI will boot again. M4000 etc is always 00, up through M4029 anyway. M5FFF won't take a change. Sounds like this suggests solder issues. I don't see any obvious problems on the board but I don't have any real magnification to examine it under. I suspect we've hit my peak in the Peter Principle. If somebody can help me proceed using very small words I might be able to move forward, otherwise I'm going to need help.
  14. Hey Folks, I posted this as a general topic but was redirected here. My TIPI seems to be sick, it worked back in 2018, then life intervened and it sat. I'm getting BAD NAME when I try CALL TIPI. SIZE in Extended BASIC suggests the RAM expansion is working okay. The power supply for the RAM expansion seems to be putting out 5v as its supposed to. I put an HDMI cable on the PI and it seems happy enough. I've reseated everything, the sidecar into the computer, the TIPI into the RAM expansion, all the cables multiple times and at Arcade Shopper's suggestion the ROM in the TIPI. The cable between the TIPI and the PI is correct, it was still connected when I first tried it out and I reconnected it by the instructions several times. The light on the TIPI blinks briefly when I issue CALL TIPI. I had hoped to play some ToD tonight. Oh well, the fun of 37 year old computers... Edit: Staring at the output of the PI booting up I realized it had gotten a different IP address than the one in my notes. I've now discovered that I can access the PI through its webpage. It seems to suggest the TIPI is ready but I'm wondering if that just means the service is running. Is there a way to ping the TIPI from the PI side? Edit 2: reading back through this thread I noticed the thing about tones. No special tones coming from my TIPI. At first boot I don't hear anything, FCTN= gets the normal single beep. I put a good multimeter on the RAM expander power supply, solid 4.98v
  15. No love. On the positive my old power supply seems to be working again. I'll post in the other thread.
