  1. S Sorry, I dont know of any other recommendations on the composite mods as I have not used many. That sucks about the chips, Did you make sure not to let static electricity ESD zap them? its always good to store chips in an ESD proof bag or foam when not in use and use a ground strap when handling sensitive electronics. as for getting new chips, You can find new usable ROT( chip R6532P ), and CPU (chip CO10745), but be careful which ones you get as they are not all created equal. The TIA (chip TSU10444-11D) is probably only going to be found at best electronics. usually you have get those from other working units. Im kind of a purist, so I dont usually pull chips from a working unit unless its just to trashed to refurbish.
  2. was going to return, but shipping it back was going to be a hassle as the vendor wanted me to only deal with hyperkin. Anyway, I cracked it open to diagnose it and see whats going on. It was 1 of 2 OBVIOUS possible things. Solder points for the cartridge connector are very crappy with some not soldered at all and some with cold joints. I resoldered them with new solder. second, the ribbon connector that connects the main board to the front switch/ button board was crooked and not seated well. After these were addressed it booted right up and worked fine...............for about an hour. Then it just shut off and wouldn't boot. just a black screen. pulled out the multimeter, and tracked down to the included Micro USB cord being shorted out. wow, what a cheap cable! After replacing the power cord/ supply and the HDMI cord with a quality one it is working and seems to be doing quite well. I LOVE THE COMMUNITY BUILD! great stuff!. Next, Im going to do my test with the paddle controllers to stop the jitter.
  3. Well...... After some more trouble shooting, the included USB power cable was junk out of the box. Its working now with a replacement, and I will end up keeping it. On the paddles issue, I'm considering a cap between the stock 1mg controller pot to control linear sweep. Im also thinking of trying a 1 mg digital encoder pot, the kind that spins freely in each direction. I think jitters in the paddle might be from sweep resistance in the pot since they are analog in nature.
  4. Just got mine today, DOA right out of the box. No boot, just a black screen. I was surprised how cheap it felt in my hands. What a waste, this could have been a great concept.

  6. Retron came today and was DOA right out of the box. Un-freaking believable. Wouldn't boot, just black screen. Sorry I couldn't help with kaboom.
  7. I should be getting my retron 77 in the mail tomorrow, I will try out Kaboom for you if it arrives.
  8. I had this same kit as you from Ebay, I installed it in a fully functioning 4 switch woody that had a total re-cap, and it did not work either. (Im no noob when it comes to soldering, and have been doing it for years.) i had no picture whatsoever, nor sound. I read somewhere that the resistors included are just not strong enough to drive a modern tv. I also heard its more likely a success with a 6 switch over a 4, I cannot validate this as I have not tried.I ended up returning it. sorry to see your having the same problem.
  9. I wonder if the 1 meg old pots in the paddles have to do with the retron not getting a correct reading as essentially they are an analog swipe pot. I have thought about experimenting with 1 meg digital encoder pots to see if that may help.
