  1. I don't think looking at the C64Mini and PS Classic and concluding that the market doesn't want premium products at a premium price is a reasonable conclusion. First, the C64 Mini was a poor implementation. They tried to "console-ize" a home computer. They did a poor job at it. The quality of the included joystick is abysmal but required due to the proprietary buttons for navigating the console. Game selection was hit-and-(mostly)-miss. Even with updated firmware to support additional games, the hoops that one needs to go through to play multi-disk games is not for the mainstream. I own the C64 Mini and I would not consider it a "premium product". The greatest issue with the PS Classic is the quality of the included games. They weren't really a good representation of what the console had to offer. Had they had a better selection of preloaded games, it would've been a hit... even at the full MSRP. Is there a market for a more premium product at a more premium price point? Answer: We don't know because there hasn't been one released to the market to gauge how the public would respond. If you're not playing in the $99 console space but in the $50 disposable market, why are you moving into the home arcade market? Why should someone spend far more on a home arcade system from a company that specializes in disposable electronics? Unless you secure the favor of influential reviewers to prime the pump for sales, I can't see anyone buying a disposable arcade system... and if it isn't going to be "disposable" like the flashbacks, then what in AtGames trackrecord would convince a consumer to consider buying a "quality" arcade system? I am a reasonably content owner of an Atari Flashback 9 and the latest FB portable but I would need a lot of convincing to buy a home arcade system from AtGames.
  2. I just received a portable that I bought off an eBay seller and it had some scratches on the screen. I had some auto headlight cleaner and used that and it worked without damaging the screen. I suspect that car wax or brasso would work too. I then covered the screen with a fragment of a matte screen protector for a tablet. It helped visibility and viewing angle.
  3. I'd like to see one last Colecovision and Intellivision Flashback consoles that support ROMs on SD cards. The reason why I've started buying AtGames' Flashback offerings now are because, (A) they're at a level of quality that I find acceptable and (B) they offer a gaming experience with the original controller designs. If AtGames doesn't want to release either of those Flashback systems, it would be nice of they produced USB versions of those controllers that could work on a computer/tablet. But I know I'm in the minority in wanting that.
  4. Whether or not that is true, AtGames continues to incrementally improve the FB. And while they may be targeting the average consumer... gamers and Atari fans are increasingly being drawn in to buying them too. AtGames claimed that paddles for the FB9 are coming. That makes no sense if the majority of customers are "soccer moms"... because once Christmas is over, they're not looking to buy accessories for this "throw away" game. AtGames knows that retro gamers and Atari fans are the "influencers" they need to help sell their flashback systems. Impress us, and we'll give our friends and family the "thumbs up" when they ask if they should buy one. I believe THAT is one of the reasons for promising to produce paddles. I never bought any of the previous Atari FB systems... I didn't think they were worth the asking price. When I was asked my opinion, I told friends and family to skip it. I bought the FB9 and am quite pleased with it.. and with that, so too goes my recommendations. I hope there is no Atari Flashback 10.... rather, I'd like to see an "Atari Flashback Forever" which reaches a level of refinement that can continue to be sold beyond a single holiday shopping season, with accessories that can be purchased separately.
  5. I'm pretty cynical myself, but I don't think it is the case here. AtGames, IMO, did a great job with the FB9. I think this is one, if not the only AtGames product that has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. I'd be curious to see how the FB9 sold compared to previous FB consoles. I hope they'll capitalize on the good will and produce the paddles. As for an FB10 follow-on, tweaks to the console itself (woodgrain contact paper instead of a distressed strip of orange paint), improvements to the joysticks (they're a bit too "squishy" for my liking), and maybe a greater mix of games would make it another winner. Then they can go work again on Intellivision and Colecovision FB units. (current prices for them are insane)
  6. Thanks for the insights. I'm getting the sense from your post that ATGames is giving up on producing paddles for the FB9. Have they come out and said that they are no longer planning to produce them for the FB9? That seems a bit odd since it seems pretty straight forward to produce paddles that would work.
  7. Sounds like there are 2 different issues being discussed... The first is not using console versions of arcade titles... that because it is an arcade cabinet, the arcade version should be used. The second is, that there should be a good reason for the inclusion of those 400 games, not just as a marketing bullet point. I don't think anyone was saying that console games should NOT be included. I think if 110 of those 400 games were Atari 2600 from the Flashback 9, there would be an accusation of THAT constituting shovelware. From a customer's perspective, I think ATGames is a bit too ambitious in their endeavors. The FB9 is terrific IMO with just a few minor additions/tweaks to make it the ultimate flashback system. But with the FB9 paddles still MIA and other rough edges around the other ATGames offerings, this arcade cabinet product seems to be very ambitious. I hope to be pleasantly surprised however. On a side note, I think that ATGames did a far better job with the FB9 than those other guys did with the C64 Mini.
  8. I'd like to know as well. I just bought a FB9 (HDMI version) 2 days ago updated it with the firmware posted on this thread, added 99 games... the entire process ran smooth as silk. Thanks OP! The only two "issues" I'd like to get resolved are, forcing an alphabetic listing on the SD card and getting box art for those ROMs.
