    Luma Phone

I am SO hoping to restore this system.. I got this old Atari Luma Phone (Video Phone), and well, the video function doesn't work. I'm trying hard to restore it. I did manage to fix the modem/phone part, and while I can hook it up to a TV, it can show the setup screen, and Directory, but I can't get the CRT/Camera, to function, it keeps blowing the fuse. The camera and CRT are both tubes, on the same "Video Module", and the CRT will start, but then gets dark and out of focus, and makes a whining sound, then pops the fuse. The camera during this time shows hardly a picture (actually, just a grey screen). Any ideas?
  2. im not too sure if it's original.. the atari at the time was called VCS, not 2600..
  3. tell that to the people that threw away their dish washer, that's now in our kitchen! (which works perfectly fine mind you)
  4. yea.. http://macteens.com/gallery/albums/userpic...chargeripod.jpg (btw, shadow, i found a simple mechanical downmixing fix for the ipod.. if the jack is slightly out, the connection won't short out, as the right speaker pin rests on the ring itself, which is a non-conductor)
  5. a genesis 2 (and 32x) however uses a center positive... all sega CDs use a negative tip...
  6. ill just make one then.. all these years and i thought the tip was ground... geez, why didn't they do that, it would have been the better choice...
  7. technically, there shouldn't be a problem.. this is what I know from my experience with audio equipment for years... a stereo audio plug ----|--|--> --A--A-G mono -------|--> ----A---G (A=Audio, G=Ground) so, a stereo channels would both be touching the audio on the super charger, thus automatically getting both channels downmixed, mechanically... (and on the iPod, you can't adjust balance, atleast on a 4th gen)
  8. I tried AAC 320Kbps, and it resulted in unplayable games, even the small 3d tic-tac-toe..
  9. yea, I got it to work.. the EDIT went very slowly above.. is there any compression that doesn't damage the files?
  10. I can't seem to get my supercharger to work with my ipod.. it always results in a annoying tone, and striped screen.. why won't it work? if I play the WAV files on my laptop they work fine.. EDIT: Nevermind, it seems AAC compression messes up the data, and I am forced to use the original WAV files.. Is there a way to use compression?
  11. I'm 19, and the first console I got was the Atari 2600.. It was my fathers, and one morning he had it hooked up, with Centipede playing.. Ever since then, I have not stopped gaming, and love it.. The most modern console I have is an Xbox, but I will be honest.. I love my Atari and my Sega Genesis equally.. Both have great games, and are enjoyable.. My xbox, it's only one game really....
  12. If you don't need much in the way of graphics, the 2600 can produce polyphonic music with any desired pitches. A demonstration of the required technique may be found in the MiniDig. Alternatively, if you just wanted to store digitized audio, a 32K cart could hold about 4 seconds of the highest quality audio the Atari could produce or 8 or 12 seconds of reduced-but-still-decent quality. Not a whole lot, but perhaps enough for your purposes. I don't want any samples.. or if i did, it would be purely percussions, and only short clips, while the Atari still played the notes itself...
  13. I want to make a cartridge as a joke for a friend.. The cartridge will have all songs from a real bands album (green day), except one twist, being played on the Atari 2600 using it's own noise generators (would mostly be following lead guitars and vocals, that's about it), and will say the name and song on the TV screen.. How hard would this be (is this even possible?), and approximately, how big of a ROM chip would I even need? No special fancy graphics, just white text on a black background, that's it... I want to learn Atari programming, and this would be a fun start for me... From what I hear, the Atari 2600 is limited in range for notes, if this true, how small is this range?
  14. In that case, you'd better stick with Ben's or one of the other mods. I'm not currently in a mood to provide that level of support. I have a friend who can help me with the mod.. He'll make me do the soldering and clipping, while he'll show me where things go, and what to do...
  15. I'll go ahead and do the mod, and when I do it, I promise to get back to you, with pictures from a Commodore third party monitor, and a 27" HDTV, and possibly my fathers 32" regular TV (which showed a very washed out pic with the original ben heck mod)... Only thing, while I understand most of your page, I still haven't learned how to read schematics yet.. If I saw a picture of the completed circuit along with the traces, I could build it... (i don't know symbols and things yet, im still a novice at soldering and building circuits)
