Just recently I received an Atari 2600 jr. from my grandparents . But I had a problem. This system came with NO accesories at all. So I found this thing. It was a "universal power adaptor" . It plugs into your car and gives DC 6-9V 300mA. I figured that 200mA difference couldn't hurt it. So I flipped the switch to 9V and tried it out. Guess what? IT WORKED. So then I found a power supply (not for the car) and it said DC 9V 300mA (I had no luck with finding 500mA ) but it had the wrong end on it. So then I stripped the wires and put a different end on it. And to even my suprise it still worked . So now I still need some sort of substitute for a controller but at least my Atari works.
