  1. Wow, can't believe that this thread is still going after all these years (or even that my account is still active!) Loving all of the new stories, particularly the videos (that's what prompted me to come back - I stumbled across the Thomas Anderson one on G+!). Nice to see the competition still going, and lots of characters doing so well... has given me an urge to fire up the emulator again I'll have to try and follow some of the tips, as a lot of what you' em been doing recently is completely counter to my usual style. All the new technical info from Jim is great too, so thanks for sharing it with us... and thanks also for Resurex; was it on one of the Page 6/ NAU coverdisks at some point? I've just had a quick look back over my mags but couldn't see it - but I remember it being a lifesaver (if you'll excuse the pun!) Has anyone found any gold dragonskin clothing yet? I didn't see any mention of it in my catch-up read though
  2. Agreed - much as I'd love to see this achieve fruition, there really are some things that are more important!
  3. I assume that you've all seen the Wikipedia article about AR? Quite interesting, although flagged by the powers that be due to a lack of a neutral point of view... anyone fancy having a go at updating it?
  4. It's a great game - I recall spending countless hours sorting my party out to get a good balance, and then distributing the various weapons between them... in fact, a lot more time doing that than I did playing the game! I've still got mine, but if anyone hasn't played it and is into RPGs then it's definitely worth a shout... I can still remember some of the maps, puzzles and names! Scary!
  5. Was reading just that little bit too difficult? Sheesh! A couple I used to be into were Crystal Caverns (a flip-screen platform puzzler) and IIRC one called Slingshot - a top-down pseudo sci-fi golf game (!); very cool, easy interface, interesting concept (magnetic ball, slingshot it around magnetic bumpers, hit bumper to change polarity, etc. - makes the ball zoom around everywhere). Can't find any references to it, so haven't been able to track it down... but I'm certain that I've still got the boxed cassettes somewhere at my parents' place. Both worth checking out for a quick bit of fun. To follow up from above, "Behind Jaggi Lines" was the working title - and piratical release - of Rescue on Fractalus, in much the same way as Last Starfighter became Star Raiders II (albeit without the cool launch anim).
  6. Oooooooooh! Exciting! Can't wait! *rubs hands in glee*
  7. Good grief! (a) I'm gobsmacked that it's got 40 bids (b) I'm stunned that it's up to over £400 and © I'm freaked out that I've got a fair number of those myself, all still with their packaging and in good condition! Quasimodo! Hardball! Spy vs Spy! Mercenary! Gauntlet! Alternate Reality! Spy Hunter! Dropzone! Mule! Eternal Dagger! Various Level 9 adventures! All absolutely classy stuff - but surely anyone who's "into" the A8 platform will already have most of these, no?
  8. Uh - duplicate... sorry! (How odd?!) I'll use this extra space to point out that even though "jugmckenzie" has 390 feedback, he obviously hasn't worked out how to use the eBay automatic maximum bid functionality...
  9. Hi - good to see another AR fan Interesting observation about the price of goods, although I'd suspect that the actual calculation is a bit more complex than that - it must use the charisma value somewhere, and possibly also your appearance (e.g. rich, poor, etc.) ?
  10. I remember being pleased at pulling out some groovy graphics routines from a game listed in Page 6 (called "Dilemma" I think) - basically, words on the intro screens zoomed in letter-by-letter from the edges of the screen, accompanied by sounds. It was cool, so I pulled it apart and put my own text in, and turned it into a security/log-on program which I installed on a bunch of my disks. This blocked break and reset, prompted for the correct time and date, and required a name and password. Needless to say, I can't remember how to get back into it all anymore! I also managed to play around with one of TurboBASIC's sound commands (dsound) and, by using a set of user-input values for the parameters managed to recreate almost all of the weird bloopy sounds that Zeppelin used in Draconus. Well cool - and it was all on disk with a letter ready to submit to P6/NAU, but for some reason I never did... ah well!
  11. Damn - there's precious else that I can say that wouldn't be making fun of you. What posessed you?!
  12. Wo - can it *really* be GG?? AR - City was my first ever experience with computer music (apart from short ditties like in Pole Position) and I still know virtually every tune and lyric from the game all these years later! Memorable, evocative, emotional - fantastic :-)
  13. @Trilog Sounds great - I had a similar idea of reimplementing it all in a more modern environment... SDL looks cool as it's available on Windows, Linux, Mac OSX and Amiga OS4, but the engine which caught my eye was called "Dimension 3". I think that it's mostly Mac-centric, but should be portable - and seems quite straightforward to string things together (an easy map/path editor, and javascript-style controls and actions). I've only seen bits of snippets of information about what happens behind the scenes, but perhaps XD or Wrathchild would have more information, as it seems that they're familiar with poking around at the workings of AR... I've got ample webspace/bandwidth if you'd like me to host a mirror, or a larger archive... just drop me a line! @hicksman Yeah, I noticed it seemed to have gone quiet... unfortunately I couldn't answer most of the questions you posted, so perhaps everyone else was in the same boat...
