  1. Yep, Gyruss is cake. As is Time Pilot...I think there should be an extra "1" in front of that score. They had a Time Pilot machine at a gaming expo last year, and I got over 16,000 in 30 sec on my first try.
  2. Wow. DKJ took me about a dozen tries - and this is AFTER seeing the show where the contestant does it successfully, so I basically knew what to do. You are a stronger DKJ'er than I. I agree that Mappy isn't too hard. There are patterns that will enable you to get 6,000 or more, but I've forgotten them. It helps if you can catch the big cat hiding behind one of the prizes.
  3. Many thanks!! Also, here are some of my own personal "scores to beat." They are NOT actual scores from the show, nor are they averages of 20+ players; they're just scores that give me a good run for the money. You might find them too easy or too hard, but feel free to try them. Asteroids 2,200 Asteroids Deluxe 3,300 Battlezone 8,000 Centipede 6,400 Dig Dug 5,500 Galaga 6,200 Galaxian 2,600 Phoenix 800 Paperboy 2,200 (on any level) Rally-X 6,500 Red Baron 1,300 Return of the Invaders 9,000 Super Qix 1,500 Tempest 5,000 (starting on level 1) Vulgus 7,500 Wizard of Wor 4,400

  6. I would LOVE to see a new version of Starcade. Do you mean with modern day games, or retro games? Maybe a little of both... By the way, this guy easily beats the Sinistar score with time to spare. It took me about an hour's worth of trying. I suck. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXIuProXjiA
  7. Geoff was also excellent in Jackpot, Treasure Hunt and the CA Lottery's Big Spin. Great host. Come to think of it, Sinistar was his favorite game. Maybe Starcade took 20 of HIS playings and came up with the score to beat.
  8. Just added the scores for two more games. I swear Sinistar took me almost 100 tries before I got it. "Average of 20 players," yeah right. How about "the producers were on a budget and needed people to lose." Of course, the Tazzmania score is from the olden days when the scores were actually beatable, and I have never come close.
  9. Just noticed it has Tazzmania...the one game I cannot beat the Starcade challenge at (1,203 points in 30 seconds). Can you???
  10. The highest score I've seen on the show in 30 seconds is 5,310...can you beat it? By the way, here's my score from my first try at Bubbles: 11,300. Ouch.
  11. LOL! I think that's because the score is from one of the earlier (Mark Richards) shows, and the "20 players" probably had no clue how to play the game. If they did DK in the Geoff Edwards era, when everyone and his uncle knew the game, I'm sure the score would have been way higher. The DK Jr. score is actually pretty tough. I played it at CA Extreme this summer and missed it by 15 points.
  12. Starcade.tv is posting new episodes one at a time, so I was able to add a score for Bubbles. If anyone knows what the score is for Scramble (I missed it), please let me know. It's on show #92, Sean Doppie vs Joe Blea.
  13. My main beef with the DVD version is that it has a noticeable skip after every move (correct or incorrect). I guess that's how DVD players work, but it really detracted from the experience for me. Also, the 3-d effect has to be "simulated" with red/blue glasses, double imaging, and a weird moving graphic in the background that looks sort of like a tunnel if you use your imagination. I know I can't expect it to be the same as the arcade, but I don't think this setup added any 3-d feel at all.
  14. Well, I cheated...I found out by accident online. Can't remember the exact site but I saw the tip and thought...ooh, that's neat. A bummer the patterns don't work. I don't think there are any other games to unlock...but that would have been awesome if Midway had done that! By the way, there's a theater around here that has the machine set at turbo. I believe the high score on the hidden Pac-Man game is 999,990.
  15. Don't know if this counts, but if you can find one of the newer Ms Pacman/Galaga combo machines, there's a secret code that will let you play regular Pacman. Insert coins, tap the joystick UUU,DDD,LRLRL and you should hear the "bonus life" sound from Pacman. Then start the game. Impress your friends!
