  1. yup, he fixed my 2 dead XFs
  2. I just pulled out my Antic magazine collection from the basement. All original bought at the local book store with my hard earned newspaper delivery money back in the mid-late 80s. Memoreeez. Man, I remember typing-in my first program listing and I didn't even have a tape drive or disk drive. Just kept the 800XL on until I owned the game. My collection is kinda musty from the past 28 years. I inserted them all into plastic magazine sleeves. I put them into a storage bin with a box of baking soda. I noticed I even have the last issues of STart magazine with the Antic section. I kept buying until Antic's last breath in 1991. Anyways, I'm keeping my collection for nostalgia.
  3. didn't know who he was until i read about him in Antic magazine back in 85... RIP
  4. i've always been fond of Ultima III and Ultima IV rhythms... Forbidden Forest couldn't get that little victory tune out of my head... Ballblazer song was cool... Alternate Reality intro was funky... was blown away by Draconus and Zybex theme songs when I first booted up... Mouse Trap tune was fun... Amaurote I was pulling my hair out at the music and gameplay
  5. sounds good... i'd like both repaired... been meaning to access my double-sided 360K floppies for so many years now
  6. so i have 2 broken XF551s... the power light blips on one and then nothing... the other one is just dead no light... i looked at the connectors and don't see any solder breaks... any ideas? i'm no electronics guru.. anyone wanna trade a working unit for 2 non working units? probably an easy fix for a tech
  7. nah, 1985 was the best year! the eidolon was fantastic! ultima 4 was superb! karateka was awesome!
  8. If I won the lottery I would provide an incentive for Atari 8-bit programmers and hobbyists from all over the globe to develop new Atari 8-bit software and hardware. What kind of incentive would that be? Perhaps a private foundation where the Atari 8-bit community can apply for grants to develop new Atari 8-bit products that help to stimulate and sustain the Atari 8-bit community and hobby as a whole. There are a lot of great product ideas out there, but it costs time and money.
  9. I met my Atari at 13 yrs.... I met my wife at 18 yrs... back then my wife always understood that my Atari programming would lead to a career in the computer science field... 21 years later I'm not as hard core a programmer as I used to be, but I'm still coding in html, php, and css developing online courses and learning objects.... I consider myself an old school programmer.... I never did get into the OOP paradigm... and yes I still program my atari 8-bit and my wife doesn't say a word...
  10. Ghosts-n-Goblins was a great game on many platforms... http://www.mobygames.com/game/ghosts-n-goblins/screenshots Any idea why it was never ported to the Atari? I mean my demo version was just a concept to see if I could recreate the gameplay on my Atari 800XL using Turbo Basic. GK
  11. i purchased the Diamond system back when it came out circa 1990... i thought it would be an alternative to DOS, but it became more of a novelty.... i traded the cartridge for a book called Atari Roots... i think MAC65 too.... best deal i ever made
  12. i remember buying 'Forbidden Forest' at Zellers with my hard earned newspaper delivery dollars... i think i used the disk as a frisbee
  13. wasn't sure what game everyone was talking about until i dl'ed the game... i went ahhhh... i remember ordering this game from one of the many atari PD catalogues at that time.... fun stuff
  14. They should write a complete book about Atari... fascinating read. Looking forward to part 2 too.
