  1. Hi fellow Atarians, Long time passed since my last post, I missed this great forum. Today I have taken apart one of my VCS clones and here is the guts: I was surprised how simplified the PCB was. I guess this is a very low-quality clone. As you see, there are two big ICs. One reads 4000-0001P and the other (to the right, longer one) reads 3289 9213A 225691 There are also two small ICs behind the cart socket. The machine also has a three-way switch to choose between 128-32-32 games (although they are mostly duplicates). The switching between the games are achieved by a switch in front of the unit (in place of color/bw TV switch) Anyways, my goal is to take the ROM in which the games reside apart, and then have another (bigger) EPROM filled with my selection of games(2k-4k-8k), not concerned with bankswitching games. I think it would be a good idea to solder a ROM socked in place of the removed ROM, and then using my custom EPROMs on it. Also, I am not sure which one of those two ICs is the ROM IC. And pointers and ideas are welcome on how to do this. I do have some soldering experience, but I have no EPROMs or any related equipment, although may go and buy some stuff accordig to your recommendations.
  2. If I remember correctly I read in this forum that Jr's TV output quality was inferior to that of the VCS, is this true? If it is true, by how much? Is there a big difference?
  3. Well, I was thinking. I am mainly concerned about the originality of the games. I mean, game styles. In my opinion Atari 2600 had the most original and diverse spectrum of games with different characteristics and play styles. Unlike the modern level-based game style of today, which I think was popularized by Nintendo. I mean, it seems to me many(or most) Atari 2600 games didn't have an 'ending', so kind of endless, thus having virtually infinite replay value... I just like the fast paced, arcade style gaming, with replay value. And many games for Atari 2600 seem to embrace this. So I think people asked for it. They wanted Metal Slug like games. Great for first few plays, and then "been here, done that". Of course there is nothing wrong with those games in the general sense, but for me, nothing feels like the originals. What do you think?
  4. If only I could get that console back
  5. Sorry guys It is not something like those at all
  6. Hello, thanks for your kind response! With guys like you, this is surely a nice place for me. Yes, when I was a kid, I had this VCS clone console. It was all plastic and black, had the cartridge slot, and contained quite a few built-in games. It resembled the VCS, was not different much visually. Back in the day, they were called "karakutu"(blackbox) here You selected the games with the reset switch IIRC. The TV standard of my country is PAL (PAL-BG to be specific) And here is the fake screenshot I just drawn solely of my fading memories. It may give you an idea, but please consider it as a very tentative representation.
  7. none of them. I'l make a "fake" screenshot from what I can remember And then I'll post here
  8. No no, as I said above, it was in 2d. It didn't have a 3d playfield
  9. By the way, I played it in a pirate PAL clone of the VCS. It contained a few dosen of games built in. The console was all black.
  10. I checked it, but unfortunately no. I guess so I'll do that when I find the time. Anyway thanks. And I still hope there is someone who may recognize it
  11. Hmm no. At least as I remember I know it sounds strange but that game had some charm to hynotize me to the screen for time some time. It was like a free endless space-trip
  12. Thanks for the warm greeting and quick replies. It is not Tac-Scan. Funny enough, I can't recall the objective of the game . Also, let me add that the background was black and I remember the "shuttles" mostly as red colored. If memory serves me correctly, the shuttes appeared from and direction (since you could go any direction), they were in fleets or 3-5, and they were not hostile (not sure)
  13. Hello, There is a game I used to play and enjoy long ago on my 2600, but I can't seem to find it again. You are flying a space shuttle in an endless space (2-d plane). You could go in every direction. There were many other shuttles as well and IIRC, they were flying in fleets. This is all I can remember about the game. Also, I later discovered that the Commodore64 game "Z" is very similar to it. I think that is a sufficient description. Would be glad if you guys can name it. Thanks PS: First post, I am glad to be here, greetings to the community
