  1. Just wondering @DEBRO had a v2.2 fixed version of Yar's Return that fixed the last bug, but apparently never made it even to the Flashback X somehow. Any idea what this version of Yar's Return is?

    Evercade

Sorry I meant "Handy" LOL... changed it to Lynx because I was thinking Handy=Lynx LOL Apparently there has been some unofficial upgrading done by forum members to e.g. include EEPROM support, would be nice to see it officially "revived" I'm not an Open Source legal expert but depending on what license Handy is under, if the Evercade people use Handy with modifications they might be required to open-source their emulator as well.

    Evercade

I just found out about this today, however the Evercade doesn't use FPGAs to emulate Lynx hardware but a linux-based software emulator. Any idea what emulator this is? The reason I found out is that I dusted off my PSPgo and found out Handy (the Lynx emulator) for it hasn't been updated since 0.95.1 (from 2007) and a bunch of other cores (e.g. Mednafen/Beetle Lynx) are basically just Handy. Handy has sound issues and apparently graphics glitches with the game RoadBlasters (and so does Beetle Lynx of couse). I'm very much interested in the Evercade especially because of the 2 lynx carts, but if it's just the good ole Lynx with its flaws I may pass.
  4. Hi all, just picked up a Flashback 8 Gold at a Canadian Walmart (~$100, in stores only), and only AFTER I bought it I read the reviews. All the reviews I saw mentioned an SD-slot, which does not appear on retail units. (e.g. here: https://gizmodo.com/i-tested-two-retro-consoles-one-good-one-hot-garbage-1797304161) Did anyone take on apart to see if this is still on the mainboard, so all you'd need to do is solder a SD card connector? Of course the firmware would still need to support it. I haven't seen actual pictures of the SD port in reviews, so maybe the reviewers were just told it would be there (and was only implemented on the portable so you'd buy that one too).
  5. I just picked one up in-store at Wal-Mart for a few pennies under $100. They had two on the shelf and a cardboard box holding 5 units was grabbed from down back when I asked for an undamaged box.
  6. You sir, are a very adept Force user, because you're actually spot on!
  7. The Force is not strong in this one. It's TIE = Twin Ion Engine, designed and built by Sienar Fleet Systems. These craft appear to be in-character as the mass-produced, "expendable" TIE/LN type fighters.
  8. WOW! I'd never see the day that there'd be a sequel to this game, SR was one of the four cartridges that I bought together with my Atari 800XL in 1984 (the others were Ms. Pac Man, Donkey Kong, and Galaxian). Who cared if it said ©1979, it was the most awesome game ever as I used to play it on the 2600. As for the botched/strange introduction, perhaps at one point this can be turned in to an official disk-version which would allow for a proper intro which can be (part of) the loader. This may -appropriately inspired by the reimagined Battlestar Galactica- involve the "old graphics" to tell the story of the first human-Zylon war, then set the story for the second Zylon invasion using the "new graphics". Maybe we can also find out what happened to Star Cruisers 1 through 6, or perhaps that best left in reserve in case a retro programmer decides to create a Star Raiders Zero (prequel) game, but I can also see a Star Raiders III (not necessarily for that Atari 8-bit platform) featuring multiple galactic charts (one per sector) where you use Hyperwarp to travel within the sector and Transwarp to travel between sectors (there's some strategy stuff that can be built there, e.g. limiting the number of Transwarp jumps or special requirements to perform one, like having 9500+ energy, then end up with so low energy you need to dock at a Star-Base ASAP), and new formidable enemies, the Grob (Borg spelled backwards), the Gon-Klin, and Morulan Star Empire. I like the idea of having both lasers and photon torpedoes. Perhaps the number of torpedoes can be limited to a certain number, after which you can resupply at a Star-Base (kinda like Blue Max works, first energy, then torpedoes, then damage, and you can leave early --with the shuttle still en route, perhaps use different colors for the different functions-- to gain a strategic time advantage ).
  9. Sorry for digging up this old thread, but I'm in need of a simple tester that will test an NTSC Atari 800 with a 16 and 3rd party 32KB board in it. Would it be possible to have a simple tester that can run in 16kb of ram, test the other available ram, then when successful, copy itself to that location and jump to there, then it will continue with the RAM it previously occupied? I'm having an issue with some garbling on the far right side of the screen in e.g. frogger (scrolls sideways) but you don't see the same problem in Galaxian except that one digit of player 2's highscore is missing.
  10. Thanks for this wonderful piece of software. Note that I currently don't have a SIO2PC USB yet, I've just recently acquired an Atari 800 (NTSC) again with a 810 drive, I've been using Atari 8-bit (PAL) computers "back home" since 1984. Just a quick question; for win32 which would currently be the better one to use (for PC to Atari only, not the reverse): AspeQt preview 7 or RespeQt v2? I checked the thread and it's all about Mac OS X and win32 seems to be a little ignored. As well, will there be a feature request thread? I'd like to see --if at al technically possible, and far out into the future-- VAPI support, so you can use .atx images, and --again if technically possible, and of course taking the Mega Speedy route for the ROMs-- enhanced drive emulation, so you can for instance use disk images created by the Happy Compactor, or use Happy copier that checks if you have an enhanced drive. So for instance you can have your real Happy 1050 as D1 and the emulated Happy 1050 as D2 and copy back and forth, allowing you to have your backups on your PC. To make sure, it's not about the speed but about the enhanced functions that allow archiving of original Atari disks.
  11. This is a very simple sketch up that I made but it's just to illustrate the idea; it is possible to create a "modernized" Star Raiders that keeps most of the original game play. The HUD could be beautified, the starfield needs to be dimmed down a little so no confustion can exist about stars vs. torpedoes vs. the asteroid vs. enemies in the distance. Any ideas how we might pitch this? There are often classes where people need to find a project to do, sometimes people have engines that they want to make a demo for, etc. etc.
  12. What I'd love to see is a "modern hardware" version of Star Raiders. It should of course implement the game "as is", I don't want anything added (like "trading", "landing on planets") etc., except using 21st century graphics and sound. Of course while avoiding the "Atari ST" feel. I don't know if you, in this age of SOPA can infringe on visual elements as a "Klingon Cruiser", "Tie Fighter" and "Cylon Basestar" but that is what they should resemble. I don't want anything added (like "trading", "landing on planets") etc. Further, it'd be nice if it offered an enhanced mode where for instance Basestars are larger than in SR and you have to target the center to destroy it. The basestars could also shoot larger photon torpedoes than the cruisers. It's important to accurately translate the behaviour, e.g. what happens to the torpedoes (or asteroids) coming at you when you "turn" Maybe you will call it blasphemy. I've played SR on the 800, 2600 and my brother's ST *a couple of times only*, the 800 version on real hardware is still unbeatable. But it would still be nice to have a modern incarnation (not: reimagination) of the classic game.
  13. You mean Competition Pro (Retro)? Pepax is linking to the "re-release" of the original Competition Pro with SubD Atari plug. There was a USB version released before that, referred to as the PC-version in the description. I've tried to get one but it apparently wasn't released in North America. Here's a link to the USB version: http://www.vesalia.de/e_competitionusb.htm - of course it still has the steel shaft and micro-switches. Oh, I think Curt's CX-40 clone looks way cooler
  14. In addition to the ones already mentioned (Glenn the 5200 man, Steve and Bruce, Kilroy etc.) I also remember a "CSS Copy Service Stuttgart" and there was a Yogi of Yellowstone BBS?
  15. Chip's Challenge Level II? ...here was hoping someone replaced the original level data with new levels... sigh...
