  1. I played the Colecovision Jumpman Jr. also and it was a fun game. It also feels like a title that often gets lost or forgotten in the sea of platformers that existed back then.
  2. I just finished all 10 levels using the Altirra emulator. I know I never finished this years ago because I think I would have remembered it. It would take an extreme amount of dedication and lots of effort to beat this game on a real 5200 console. The game is very challenging and I'm using a standard CX-40 controller to play it. I do remember how difficult it could be to make many of the small movements and jumps while using the 5200 controllers years ago. Yeah, I could see this game causing lots of joysticks to hit the floor with frustration four decades ago.
  3. Does the fact that the screen scrolls as you move along make the game a platformer or would older games like Donkey Kong also be considered a platformer?
  4. I haven't played the Colecovision version since it came out in the early 80's but I thought it had another level or two more than the other versions. This game and Jumpman Jr which was also ported to lots of different consoles and computers are kind of underrated in my opinion. I'm mean sure retro fans like most of us recognize and remember them fondly but generally they are often kind of forgotten about.
  5. Hello all:) I played the 5200 version at the neighbors back in the day and even with added challenge of the controllers I loved it. I remember renting the Colecovision version when it came out and even though it had more levels (at least I think it did) and looked just as good if not better I still seem to have more memories and fondness for the good ole 5200 version of the game. Has anybody ever played any of the computer versions of the game? Are they different better or worse than the 5200 version?
  6. I was wanting to play 2600 Star Raiders but I don't know how to figure out which keyboard keys operate the ships functions like the separate keypad controller did years ago. As you can see in my screen shot I've got it to the point where it shows that the keyboard is set for controller port #2. I just don't know how to see the keys or set up the keys for the game. Thanks:)
  7. Just my opinion but I think State Farm probably figured that changing the name at the top of the cabinet would be enough and that nobody would really even notice the artwork on the cabinet. You're talking about a 4 decade old arcade game that over 99% of the people watching the commercial are never going to make any connection of any kind anyway. State Farm has deep pockets so it wouldn't surprise me if they simply cut a check to Atari to make this go away. I guess after all of these decades the studio sound editors are going to have to get some new video game background sound effects because it might be to risky to use the gameplay sounds from 2600 Pac-Man or Donkey Kong on TV commercials, TV shows or movies anymore.
  8. I just started playing Space Rocks a week or so ago. It's a darn good game. Also played GOOD 2600 Defender.
  9. I sure wish I was a gazillionaire then I would hit up Michael Rideout for that smooth solid gold Fireworld Chalice:)
  10. For a short time we had both a Showbiz pizza place and a Chucky Cheese in the early 80s. Both places had a great atmosphere and the arcade games were great. I remember the tokens at CEC were minted with the year on them. Eventually Showbiz closed and then CEC moved to the old SB location. It stayed there for probably 25 years or so. Of course that part of town had become kind of shady over the years. I remember near the end they put a chain link fence around the property probably to discourage people from loitering around. I heard that they eventually started charging a small cover charge at the door because of the kids coming in without a dime to spend. It finally moved a few years back to Eastdale Mall which is an improvement but not by much.
  11. You're like the family member in front of me on Family Feud that keeps stealing my answers😉
  12. LOL! That's blasphemy! Add a heading (5).mp4
  13. I remember the first time I saw Adventure very well. It was probably in the first 3-6 months of 1982. My friend Jim and I were at K-Mart with my Mom and we naturally wanted to go check out the electronics department so she turned us loose while she was doing her shopping. They had a 2600 set up with Adventure plugged in. I agree that even by 1982 standards it could have been joked on with the simple dot man and the duck dragons but we never even noticed that. We were so caught up in the fact that you had the freedom to move about in so many different rooms and castles that we were blown away by the game. He got it before I did and I played it at his house whenever I was over there. I remember everybody often laughing at how silly the dragons looked but the game was so much fun that you just didn't care. To me it's kind of like watching Star Trek TOS with the goofy low budget effects and cheap sets but the stories are so good that you just don't care. Good times gents. Good times:)
  14. I lived most of my life in Alabama and my older brother used to call those old dishes the state flower because even after they weren't used anymore people would just leave them up anyway.
