Cancelled: Fruit Fly Fun (Atari 2600)
atari2600land replied to atari2600land's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
So I worked for a really long time and I finally made the clouds identical. Also, I didn't like the shape of the banana. I never did. So I changed it to a lemon. Thoughts? fly668a.bin -

Clouds: Those puffy white things in the sky. Sometimes they look like stuff. No two are alike. So with that in mind, I have a version 668. I was trying to make the clouds look better, but for some reason I just can't make them uniform. So they'll have to stay like this. I also fixed the fly's wing bug when he's down on the ground and got rid of the stuff moves behind clouds feature. So I think it's couch compliant, unless you want to play in b&w. That requires flipping the switch to b&w. Everything else should work fine. I tested it on my Atari 7800. Let me know if it doesn't. The name of the game is again "Fruit Fly Fun." I like alliteration. fly668.bin -

I figured the bugs and swatter should be able to touch the banana, so I changed it to do so. It took a few tries, but I think I have it now. I also changed the clouds. Let me know what you think. fly667bbb.bin -
Don't tell anyone, but...i'm not wearing green.

So I discovered a strangeness on a real 7800 with my flies game. The scanline jumped. So I went back to work and attempted to fix it. I think I finally did so. I was wondering though why Stella said the scanline jumped when I pressed reset but it really didn't. I don't know why it would do that. So I went back and tried to fix that and in doing so learned that the scanline was 260 when pressing reset. Which was why the >#262 thing wasn't going off when I reset. So I think now everything is okay and fine. I played it on my Atari 7800 and didn't run into any issues. And if someone finds an issue I have around 40 bytes to try to fix it with. I screwed up a whole lot when I fixed the resetting problem, so I had to spend a few hours trying to get the rest of the scanline problems figured out. I think I got all of the possible actions the game could throw at you finished and have a steady 262 scanline. I don't know why I have to worry about that only on the Atari 2600. All the other consoles I program, the 2600 is the only one who does something like that. I woke up shortly after midnight. I woke up at around 10pm and didn't want to get up, so I went back to sleep. Have you ever had a dream where you need to pee and just when you find a toilet and are about to start, you wake up needing to go really bad? I do. A lot. It's annoying. Happy St. Patrick's Day. Easter is soon, but I don't do anything for that. I bet I won't be able to get a pizza if I wanted one then. Or have groceries delivered. Or anything else, for that matter.

Wow! The 7800 is versatile! I can use a 6-button Genesis conroller to play 2600 games on the 7800, but fire is B.

The scanline should be at an even 262. It was except for resetting. I think I fixed that. And broke some other things, which I think I have fixed again. Again, let me know. fly667a.bin -
Hi. I'm quite frustrated with all of the controllers I can use because the buttons (not the joystick) won't work. So I was just wondering if a Sega Master System controller would work.

So spring has returned. The ants are back on the kitchen counter. The temperatures are warmer. Since I was done working on my Game Gear game, just for fun I went back to work seeing if I could fix the scanline issue I had in the assembly version of Fruit Fly Fun. You might say it's a beautiful spring day (well, night). I hate the sun. But I woke up at about 7 p.m. so I missed most of it. I think I fixed it. Perhaps tonight I'll try it on a real Atari 7800 to see if I made it work good on actual hardware. I had this weird dream about coding. Someone told me my colors on my Game Gear game were kind of muddy. Someone actually said that. So I dreamt there was a way to turn that off. What a thing to dream about! If you'd like to try Fruit Fly Fun, go to the thread I resurrected in the Atari 2600 Programming subforum.

Back working on the original version. Did I fix the scanline issue? I played three rounds on Stella and didn't notice anything. Let me know if you get 263 scanlines (and post a picture of it if possible.) fly666.bin -
The Official Sega Saturn Thread!
atari2600land replied to Steven Pendleton's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I don't know what the brand of my cartridge is. All it says is "Memory Card Plus". When I bought it, I had the choice of an American Saturn or a Japanese Saturn. One of the reasons I went with the US one was because it was cheaper. And because I was in America. But I don't know whether I'd like the Japanese games. I'm a pretty odd gamer: I like puzzles, racing, and platformers on occassion. -

I got my Saturn plugged back in. It still works like a champ. It's an American one, so I don't want Japanese games. But it seems like the majority of the games are Japanese. That won't help me very much since I can't read Japanese, so I bought the American one. I just bought two games off eBay: Baku Baku and Grid Runner. I played a bit of Hyper 3D Pinball. It's one of three Saturn pinball games I have. One thing I noticed was instead of loading the game straight away, I get the Saturn menu and I have to pick "start program" of it. Is there some way to make it not do that? It's really irritating. At least I have a memory save cartridge to save high scores onto. Although I don't think if you gave me a million years, I'd never beat my high score in position #5 of the Fun Fair table. -
So I worked some more on my Flying Hamburgers Game Gear game last night. I think I'm done with it now. I changed it so instead of it saying "level 1", "level 2", etc., it just says "new level." I didn't want players to get confused when they reach level 11 and it says "level 1." I also took a stab at designing a label (like I'll ever get this released. Ha!) I took an old label and changed it to say "Flying" instead of "En Route To Switzerland 2." I also found a bug in the game. It's not a game breaking bug, though, so that's good. In fact, I think it was pure luck I even found it. I don't know how. It involves the pow explosion moving left (it's not supposed to). I kept playing and never saw it again. So now what I need to do is keep playing the game, testing it. I thought I had made another one that's really different, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I had to wake up at around 4p.m. because the power went out for a few seconds. My fan stopped working. That's how I knew. So I had to turn the computer back on and set the timer on my digital clocks. Since I went to sleep at about 4a.m., I figured I might as well get up. So I did.
