  1. Woot? http://www.amazon.com/Atari-Classic-Games-Game-Download/dp/B0044DEOZQ
  2. Ah good times. My story: Now mind you this is early 90s before the time of instant YT Video Reviews and what not. So a lot of the games bought were shovelware crap. Anyway, I abused the crap out of this policy with PC software at places like Babbages, Walmart, and Best Buy. My excuse was always "I couldn't get the software to work on my PC". The two games that come to mind are http://www.mobygames.com/game/labyrinth-of-time Thank GOD I was able to return that piece of crap. And the other was http://www.mobygames.com/game/critical-path which I actually beat in like 1 day, and then returned for a full refund. I remembering being visibly PISSED when the mall store (I forget the name) started to crack down in the mid 90s. I tried to return Star Trek Interactive Technical Manual (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VGpln8L9M4) after messing around with it for a couple days and getting shot down
  3. Hotel Dusk (DS) Or Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (DS) I forget which. They were both when I was on vacation out of state last summer and desperately had to get 'plugged in' since I had no internet/pc. Yes, pathetic I know
  4. Oh I would NEVER get rid of my collection Just like every other hoarder on AA it would just find its way to the closet (Never the attic! Gotta be temperature controlled!!!) I would think PC emulation (or XBOX like you said) would just make the games more accessible to me. Just turn on my existing HTPC and boom, I could be playing SMB one second, Pacman the next.
  5. If I could only make a time machine to travel back to the early 90's to hang out at Babbage's @ the Mall....... bliss!!! Of course every game would have cost $50-$80+ (I have the original receipt for SNES FF3, I recall it was $80)
  6. Pros Saves a TON of space by consolidating all your systems into 1 box. No more confusing rats nest of power, video, and audio cords. No more swapping video cords if your TV doesn't have enough inputs. Video/Audio output is now crisp digital greatness (assuming HDMI). You can use the controller of your choice. If you have no morals, you can FINALLY play that one game you could just never find in the wild. Cons Emulation not all ways perfect. Interface takes a bit to get used to. Not as simple as pushing in a cart and firing the ole console up. You lose the 'purist' feel. Thoughts?
  7. Your best bet is to search Craigslist for a Sony Trinitron (or a Slimfit). Could be had for sub $200 easy. Don't fall into the trap though of your eyes getting too big for your stomach so to speak. I'd stay ~30 inch or smaller for the older games. A true purist would have a 13 inch 4:3 knob style tv
  8. I <3 My Slimfit 30 inch "flat screen" tube HDTV I can have my cake AND eat it too I was lucky enough to get a CRT HDTV just as they were being phased out of Best Buy. At the end of 2007 I finally decided I was going to get a new TV so I could hook up all my game systems that were gathering dust in my closet. Now I wanted to be a purist and get a CRT but as you know CRT was on it's death bed in late 2007. Well, I took the plunge and got a Samsung Slimfit 30inch 16:9 CRT (TXT-3093) @ the local bestbuy for $525. Yeah.. it was expensive, but it was probably the best I could get that would provide the best of both worlds..... CRT so it'd be easy on my "SD" sourced systems, yet HDTV so the PS2 and going forward would look amazing as well. This thing has connections out the wazoo!!! I'd love to go SCART or RGB, but I need to just take my meds and realize I will never have 'perfection'. Anyway, this TV plays nicely with the systems I've thrown @ it. I think there might be a bit of lag induced during play. I was playing Super Mario World on the SNES and my jumps seemed to be just a wee bit off, but I think that may be due to my crappy controller or just the fact that I'm a bit rusty with the game, after playing a bit longer on the game I got used to the feel. I'll need to test it out some more to make certain there isn't any noticeable lag introduced while gaming on this tv. So, here are the systems and how they're hooked up and my quick impressions. Note, audio is over RCA L/R except for the HDMI connection. Stereo sound is produced by the TV, not separate speakers (which is something I may need to tackle down the road if I want 5.1 from the later systems).: 1) NES -> Composite -> Colors are a bit bloomy/blurry, but very liveable, there are issues with Super Mario Brothers, you can see extra background pixels on the left hand side, but I guess that's just the nature of the beast when it comes to overscan I think it's called. 2a) SNES -> Composite -> Same bloom/blurry as the NES, but liveable 2b) SNES -> S-video -> Colors are much better defined, also the clarity is a bit higher, BUT it does introduce the 'mask' (dither?) effect. It's a trade off to decide between the anti-aliasing affects of Composite, or the crisper/more-colorful image quality of S-Video 3) 3DO -> S-Video -> Works as expected. Good god the birth of 3D was very painful!!! 4) N64 -> S-Video -> Same dither issues using S-Vid like the SNES. Also, same problem with 3DO, the teething stage of 3D stinks!!! (I can fallback to Composite if I wish on the N64) 5) Gamecube -> Component -> Absolutely amazing, very impressive (tested F-Zero on it) 6) PS2 -> Component -> Very nice as well, (tested GT4 and SSX Tricky) 7) Xbox360 -> HDMI -> Eye candy galore as can be expected.
  9. Without a doubt. Diablo II 2nd Place would be a tie between Wolfenstein or Doom if I had to guess.
  10. Congrats on making it to CNN. I bet AA is getting flooded with noobs signing up this week
  11. There is a very tiny bit. I only notice it when I'm searching for it and there is a long line (such as a score box or whatever). The main thing that sucks w/ the TV is there's a 4x4 inch square in the upper left hand that is bright green/purple, fortunately though it goes away after the TV has been on for about 30 min. It's not a perfect TV, but it's very livable and I'd buy again (used) if I had to.
