  1. Absolutely worthy. It was INSANE how good Pac-Man was...remember the prior version for the 2600...not so good. Galaxian and Pac-Man were great, even though Galaxian looked different it was still sharp, crisp graphics (sound on that game was lame though) and fun to play. I think the pack-in and launch titles were a huge part of why it didn't do so well. Had Atari included Pac-Man I think much of its' fate would have been in better shape. Fast forward a few decades everyone speaks to how the 5200 was mostly recycled arcade titles. But that's what everyone wanted in the early 80's! Every new game that came out was SOOO much better than the 2600. Defender was ridiculous. Having BOTH fire buttons AND the keypad for hyperspace...no looking away to hit the space key on the computer version anymore and losing a life in the process (One of my buddies had an 800). Centipede with the trak-ball is one of THE best home ports of any game imo. Spot on graphics, and a damn well put together tb controller - it was heaven. Yes...blahblahblah controllers. I honestly never had a problem with the non-centering. I just learned how to push it back to center. The fire buttons did break/wear down often. BUT the first year it a covered repair at the Atari service center literally minutes from my house. After that it was 5$ bucks. Never really was an issue. That's not all to say it was *the* best system (to me it was...still is). Atari itself killed the 5200. I remember it seeming like it was the red-headed step child to the 2600. Colecovision and 2600 ads aplenty, but not much for the 5200. Coleco touted it was backwards compatible with the 2600. As was the 5200 with a separate adapter you had to purchase. But Coleco capitalized by getting theirs out first. It really is a shame when you realize what the future would have held. Blaster, Tempest, several awesome games that never made it to store shelves. Atari seemingly at some (early) point decided F! it, and wrote the system off as a loss and only released stuff already completed and fizzled. But it definitely was worthy of being called a super system.
  2. Yeah I'm usually of the opinion the 5200 controllers are actually great, but some games not so much. Miner is one of those. The drawback to using a regular 2600 stick is the levels with the teleports where you need to press a number on the keypad. I find it extremely difficult to look away to press the "2" and not loose footing or get otherwise killed.
  3. Wow someone is REALLY going hard with selling the last chance games on ebay $500 bucks in some cases.  Eff'd up.

But you know that some people will pay it.  Baby Pacman 7800, $310 US plus $40 shipping.

There were 34 bids starting at $60, so there are a lot of folks out there willing to put in a bid at these inflated prices.

  4. Bump for the 2600 units - Gonna try ebay if nobody is interested. As always prices are negotiable if my ask $$ is too high.
  5. Lighten up francis. My comment was not replying to yours. It was replying in jest to someone I've known via this group quite a many years. And seriously? Threatening me over the internet? Cheers pal. PS....You'll NEVER hear me say "thank you for your service" to an internet bully. Zero need for threats and personal attacks

    Found!

Title says it all. There's a few on Ebay but they kind of seem to be overpriced (which, must be the case b/c the ones there have been listed/relisted for weeks). and even a few "untested" ones are pricey. I'm also (still) looking for some empty boxes for some 2600 games, I *really* want Gorf most of all. PM or reply here if you have either or both. TY!
  9. Sorry if I missed if you said, but has your bank account or credit card been charged?
  10. Personally, I think $20 is a bit much, but then again we live in an age where we’re paying $18.99 for an “album” willingly when it’s just a handful of computer files. Meanwhile, cd’s are averaging the same or a lot less, and you get something physical that can be kept, displayed, passed down, sold/traded. Me? I wouldn’t pay $20 for a rom. I love homebrewers and will keep spending more $$ than my wife will allow on them. Just not on a computer file. Props to all hombrewers. 😉
  11. Interested in the outcome. I’m considering buying 4 of the games there.
