The Story of Two Gamers

I know he’ll be in there, how could he not be on a day like this? There is only one door too. I’ll have to walk past him. Same seat almost everyday; he sits there so he can pester people in to chatting with him, as if they liked him. He liked me. If I was lucky he’d be having a piss, or getting a pint. The problem is that he doesn’t get pints or go for pisses; he just sits and pesters people. Bastard. I was almost nervous. It made me feel sick. The cold chill in my fingers gives way to a warm t

Peak time at work

I just learned today that next week, I will be expected to work 12 hour days and possibly work on one of my days off. I'm not really excited about this, but it could mean that I will get a much bigger check. I also heard that we are getting $2 more on top of our hourly wages for all of next week. I'm pumped and primed for what's sure to be another "peak hell". Work is expected to ramp up by the end of this week as more people pour in to help keep the shipping lines going for Mother's Day. I'm pl

The 5 Most Important Videogames of All Time

Like with any screen media, concept recirculation plays a rather heavy part in the videogames industry, yet on the odd occasion a really truly inspired game slips through the net. A single game can force the future of videogames from a stagnant pool of shit to an exciting evolution. Here is my shortlist of the five games that have been the most important and why.5. Space InvadersTaito’s 1977 game was the first to see fully animated sprites, it caused a shortage of the 100 Yen coin used to play i

Heroes

When we were very young my sister thought I could fly. She was convinced of it for almost a year. The whole thing started because we slept in bunk beds. Being older, I had the upper bunk. One night, deep in sleep, I tumbled out of bed. My sister went running into my parents’ bedroom to tell them that I had gone flying past her and was now sleeping on the floor. She was amazed and would not believe that I had fallen, no matter how many times they tried to tell her. For a little while there

The importance of having friends

One thing I've never been able to get about people, is how they just don't consider me approachable at work. I have been a dick in the past with some people and I've tried to make amends by putting on a smile whenever possible and stuff like this. I never thought I'd give a shit about making friends at work, but I realize that it's pretty lonely without any. Also, there are plenty of cool people where I work and I want them to feel comfortable about approaching me. I'm just not sure how to conve

Sandpoint

It’s late and quiet and I’m missing home. I’d like to be walking through the forest right now, with the wind in my face and the moon’s faint glow falling in patches through the trees. The world a layered darkness lit fitfully from above. Pine needles and moss muffling the noise of my footsteps. An owl hooting somewhere in the distance. What a joy it would be to sit alone by the edge of the lake, listening to the wavelets wash against the shore and looking for satellites or falling stars. T

Rainy days

The old adage, "April showers bring May flowers" may just hold true as today has been quite dreary and cold. Rainy days always seem to make me sleepier than usual and very bored too. I already miss the 70 degree weather that we had last Monday. I hope that it comes back for the long run.I didn't feel like doing any of my homework, since all of it is due the first week of May. I don't have much left so I could always wrap it up next weekend and still have enough time to submit it. Not too worried

Where's My Xbox's Soul?

Someone once said: ‘Arguing on the Internet is like the Paralympics - even if you win you’re still retarded’. Harsh, I find, but fair. It’s in the very essence of human nature that a bunch of fanatics communicating in complete anonymity will argue. Argue for the sake of argument, because it is their nature to believe that they alone are possessors of all knowledge. You know who you are.So, perhaps calling the Xbox ‘soulless’ was too poetic for the medium of forum? The pedantic took the topic too

right now i'm pretty worried about a lot of things. like why indeed did i waste so much time and effort in things that noone else sees? because someday, i do indeed have a lot of dreams of flying, of making things happen, that for a very brief season.... did seem to happen. but someday, though, if nothing else, i've left a warning to the future should it ever have to be rebuilt someday...don't let everything get to you indeed. because we're all in this together, whether we like it or not.whether

My brother

Let me just tell you a thing or two about my brother. We've been really close for years and shit. We've fought similar battles in life and lived to tell about it. Lately, with all the good shit that's been happening in my life, I've come to influence people a lot lately. As much as I care about my brother, he's been through hell the past 5 years. He's on probation and all. Anyway, we had a long talk after he and my mom got in a really heated argument. Normally, I don't share personal things on h

yep, I'm new

well, just checking this whole blog thing out. I havn't had a blog in years. well, about me abit I guess. I am a 23 yr old mother of 1 (my precious little Laura, 3 mo.). Happily married to the man of my dreams. We share the same obsession for vintage electronics, mainly the atari 2600. our collection is small, but growing. We just started doing the whole ebay thing, trying to build our collection and make some money on the side. We also have a little nintendo collection as well, but i'm

My Gamesroom Part 1

So, I've spent the last month, or two... or three, decorating. The pinnacle of all this hard work is the creation of my gamesroom, something which I've never had room for before. Although it's very far from complete yet, especially as there is very little storage and everything is stacked in a big walk-in cupboard, I've already had my first session. Me and a mate threw down some Dreamcast - the big box in the second picture houses over a hundred games - in the form of Shenmue and 18 Wheeler. The

Random Crap

- Working at a game company is fun. Except when you actually have to work.- It is entirely possible to eat one type of food constantly and not ever get sick of it.- It is impossible to eat any type of candy constantly and not get sick from it.- I find it funny how people have managed to hate Star Wars Episodes I and II and will still line up for days to see Episode III.- Drinking lots of water is better than drinking lots of soda.- I have a knack for stating the obvious (see above).

Cars

I'd like to talk about how I got into driving. I'll take you all back to the fall of 2000. When I was practicing for my driver's license, I used my dad's beat up '88 Reliant K wagon for practice. That poor car. While I didn't get in any accidents, I did back it up on a curb, further incensing my father. He got frustrated enough and so I gave him some of the money I saved and he gave me some of his and I bought my first car ever, a 1985 VW Golf. It was tan/gold and an automatic. It had the little

Blazing Lazers thou art a harsh mistresss

Dug out the TG16 and decided to play a game of Blazing Lazers. It is STILL fast to this day. To think that I have been playing this game off and on for 15 years and have STILL not beaten it without using a continue echos what 'replay value' is all about. I love that game, but damn, it makes me want to test the durability of a hucard by flinging it across the room into the wall sometimes! Makes me wish that Hudson had actually imported the GOOD games from the TG16 and not made it such a laughing

EP Y positioning

I've worked out the rest of the X positioning code, but I'll post and comment on it later.Y position is a little trickier. First, there are two partial zones at the top and the bottom of the screen. Second, the partial zones will affect the effective Y position of the other sprites.Last night I rediscovered how to do vertical motion on the 7800 again (0,0 is the top left corner) and realized I had to add any Y adjustments to the sprite in order to make the DL index calculation work. This mean

My Discovery of Pam -- 4/21/05

I always wanted to start a blog and what better place to start one than on my favorite website. So here we go.....Well, as a few of you know, I am a big fan of the Atari 5200 Supersystem, or as it was originally known as, the Advanced Video Entertainment System. Don't believe me? Look at the 5200 boxes. I guess I'll start off with some history. My first experience with video games was when I went to someone's house that had a 2600. A couple of kids were playing a game called Asteroids. After b

Post One Day One

I’ve been visiting and posting at AtariAge for what seems like millennia, in fact it was one of my earliest Internet experience. The Als (not that you see or hear much of Alex these days) were even kind enough to host my short-lived AA-beating website 'Atarinvader.com', at their own personal expense. If you never got the chance to visit the site then you can go back in time via The Web Archive and have a peak. With all my days of forum hopping I’ve become a bit of a gaming curio, I’m not either a

Sandinista

I swear, this is the only album I've been listening to at work recently while cleaning toliets and other crap. I love the 2nd disc(it's a 2 disc series) because I feel it has the best songs of the whole album. I don't know, but listening to this album makes me feel like I'm 19 again. It just does. I never really liked it when I bought it a few years ago. However, when I listen to everything else in my collection of Clash stuff, it pales in comparision to the Sandinista album. In this album, you

Something I wrote....

I wrote this back in October, and thought it was pretty impressive, considering the source:Life is a bitch, and then you die. Someone once said that, paraphrasing a paraphrase and continuing the tumbling phenomena known as unoriginality. Despite the saying's dubious origins, an element of truth is contained within. Life truly does suck. Or at least many of the long tedious roads travelled leave that as a permanent etching onto the soul known as my existence. People come, money goes, times get ha
