And now, the conclusion to Artie's Adventure adventure!
That's all, folks! At least for now.
We now return you to your irregularly scheduled blog.

Just got a PM from John Champeau - Lady Bug is now the #2 best-selling 2600 homebrew in the AtariAge store, recently passing Star Fire and Thrust+ Platinum. (Sorry Manuel and Thomas. )
To date, Lady Bug has 15 perfect reviews. All well-deserved. Congratulations, John!
And thanks for letting me be a part of working on it (label and manual design, and game graphics).
Here are some photos of the "real" Artie's surgery:
The new CD4050 was taken from a donor. In this case, an unused video mod:
The old chip didn't say CD4050 anywhere on it. But Albert pointed out that this is indeed the same as a CD4050:
If you do any of this kind of stuff, the best $11 you'll ever spend (and one of the few useful things Radio Shack still sells) is on a desoldering iron. It makes removing old components like this much, much easier:
After desoldering, the new
So, it's 5:00 AM, and I'm wide awake. This is a side-effect of this time of year at my job.
As with last year and the year before, and for that matter, the previous sixteen or so years, I've been burning the midnight oil at both ends (how's that for a mixed-metaphor?) getting our end-of-the-year showing of student films put together. The first show was on Saturday afternoon (May 1st), and from Friday through Sunday morning I was awake about 40 hours straight, minus a short cat-nap in my offi
Over my Christmas vacation, it was with a tinge of sadness that I noticed that the Radio Shack I had grown up with had closed its doors.
My Radio Shack.
I suppose I shouldn't have been so surprised though, since I was often puzzled at all of the other Radio Shacks that were still open.
More surprising, was that when I went to go see a movie that week, this commercial ran in the theater beforehand. "Weird Al" Yankovic singing the joys of holiday shopping at Radio Shack, in a Radio Sha
If you grew up on:

and, well...
... then you have got to watch this (an excerpt from Batman: The Brave and The Bold):

This is the strip I hadn't planned on posting originally, since it seemed a little more mean-spirited than others, plus the whole thing had died off in the forums anyway.
But I decided to post it anyway since:
I like the parallels between this and the old Intellivison/Atari rivalry, and this fits in very well with the
where George Plimpton tried to make the Intellivision come off as being superior in every way.
A new thread on this has started up, so it's no longer out-of-date.

Another year has come and gone. And no, you didn't collapse into a coma and wake up seven months later (well... for all I know you didn't) - rather, another school year has come and gone.
And as usual, the annual screenings of our student films have been taking place (here's the obligatory link to last year's blog entry).
The Open Show, where we show all films from the Character Animation Program, took place in the Main Gallery at CalArts at the end of April. Here's a wacky fish-eye phot
It's been awhile since I wrote reviews for Herb Alpert's music. But that doesn't mean he's stopped making it.
Previously, I reviewed a pair of duet albums he did with his wife (here and here).
Since then, Herb (still going strong at 81) has cranked out a new album every year for the past three years.

2014: In The Mood
2015: Come Fly With Me
I'm going to review these together because... well, they're all very similar. Which for He
Hey, hey - it's two-fer-one!
I've admitted before to being a fan of The Monkees. After Davy Jones' passing, the three remaining ex-Monkees got together and did a concert tour. Now, I didn't go and see them, since I had a hard time justifying the expense. Good tickets were crazy-expensive, and frankly, reunion concerts more often than not leave something to be desired. I'm more interested in new work, than hearing old work endlessly trotted out.
To that end, Michael Nesmith has had an ext
