It's time for an update to the Homebreviews Index. There are now 84 reviews, arranged alphabetically, by score.
Reviews added since the last index are labeled New. All reviews are for Atari 2600 homebrews, unless otherwise noted.

Well, I've been so busy this month, I had almost forgotten that October marks the third anniversary of my blog.
Unlike my 200th Blog Entry Spectacular, I'm not planning anything special for the occasion. Mainly because I already missed it.
But it does give me an excuse for my annual reminder that once again - Baskin Robbins has pumpkin pie ice cream! I've already picked up my first quart.
(Don't forget to try it with a scoop of their chocolate. Good stuff.)
Anyway, I need to ge
And the reviews continue... this time it's the games of UA Limited. (Okay... so these are reproductions, not homebrews. But "Reproductionviews" just doesn't have the same ring to it.) Cat Trax, Funky Fish, Pleiades Bundle (this will include all three reviews in the store review) 2/5 Lost games from a long-forgotten company, these have been rescued from obscurity and finally released more than 20 years after they were originally written. The newly-created packaging is first-rate, but the game
Well, they say death comes in threes... Ralph McQuarrie, Moebius, and one I missed a month ago... John Severin, who passed away February 12th.
I grew up reading Mad and Cracked magazines. There were numerous Mad knock-offs over the years, but the longest-surviving one was Cracked, and that was in no small part due to Severin's excellent work. His draftsmanship was something I aspire to even to this day. During a period from about 1977-1981, his work in Cracked was a huge influence on me. His
…maybe. So, a friend of mine who worked on Chicken Little recently invited me to a screening of it at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood, in 3D, for members of the visual effects industry. I should point out that he left Disney a year-and-a-half ago. He’s feeling much better now. While the theater was mostly full, there were maybe six or eight kids in the theater. The rest were all adults. I think this tended to result in a more “honest” reaction to the film. If the place was packed with ki

To commemorate Artie's 200th episode, I've gone back through every single episode and added "Previous" "Index" and "Next" links. Go on - try 'em out! It's fun!

Sure, that was a lot of work, but it was still easier than trying to come up with something actually... you know... funny.
Anyway, this will make it easier to go back and read entire story lines, find favori
I'll be updating this Index as I add new reviews. There are currently 132 reviews, arranged alphabetically, by score. The most recent reviews are noted with the date added. Atari 2600 reviews are listed first, 7800 reviews are listed afterwards. All reviews are for homebrew games, unless otherwise noted (hacks, hardware, etc). This index reflects the original scores I gave the games. After my initial reviews, I went and re-scored everything based on 1/2 point increments which you can read ab
Here's why I like label contests...
They allow me to just do whatever I want, and not worry about someone else liking it or not.
Now that's not to say I don't want the programmer to like it, or that I don't get to do what I want with labels-for-hire. Quite the contrary. Of course I'd like to win the contest, and as for the other, I'm generally given pretty-much free reign when asked to design labels.
Mostly...
But contests just let me play around without any pressure. I can tr
Ahhh... the tsunami of work has finally subsided. Fortunately, I managed to hang onto some debris and survive.
I don't discuss work much in my blog since, well, it's work. I don't really feel the need to discuss work much outside of work. But, I tend to do that anyway, since work pretty-much dominates my life (bad habit to get into - not recommended).
So I work at CalArts as the technician for the Character Animation program. Video production equipment, a couple of Mac labs, file server
A few quick things (well... quick to type them up anyway):
The RPS label is done! Billy really liked the final artwork, and plans to get back to working on the game soon.
As a side note, Billy also had me create some new sprites for the game. So I'm anxious to see how they work out.
Speaking of sprites, the next 2600 project I need to work on are some sprites for Manuel's port of Colony 7. (Thought I forgot, didn't you Manuel?)
After that, I'll be coloring Jess Ragan's artwork for
No no no... Post Clone Wars is not a breakfast cereal. But that would be kind of awesome - a breakfast cereal where all of the pieces looked exactly the same! No odd-shaped ones or broken bits in the bottom of the box, because, you know... they'd be clones.
Ummm... right.
Where was I?
Oh right, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
So, I used to blog about the show while it was on the air. Then Disney pulled the plug after season 5 without wrapping up the series properly - mainly because Cl
So today I got rid of something else that had worn out its welcome. I promised you an ode (although perhaps not in the strictest sense), so here we go...
Oh Cable Company. How I hate you.
Sure, when you were new, you were special.
With more channels and better quality than a roof antenna. Or rabbit ears.
But you took advantage of me.
Raising your prices, and returning nothing.
Making me pay for channels I never watched, and taking away ones I did.
Offering yourself up for less money to
So, I finally got around to seeing DreamWorks' MegaMind.
Last week.
Yeah, I was a little late with that, and then forgot that I'd watched it, so I'm late writing the review, too.
Anyway, MegaMind is DreamWorks' take on the superhero genre.
You know... like Pixar did a few years ago with The Incredibles.
Sort of like how Pixar did Toy Story, then DreamWorks did Small Soldiers.
Or how Pixar did A Bug's Life, and DreamWorks did Antz.
Or how Pixar did Finding Nemo, and
Well, since Qb has been temporarily added back to the AtariAge store, I'd better get a review written for it before it goes away again.
Qb 5/5
Qb is what I'd describe as an "action/puzzle game". The goal is to slide puzzle pieces around and duplicate a pattern shown on screen. Sounds simple enough, but you're racing against time to finish each puzzle, and you also have to deal with enemies that can pop up and ruin all of your hard work (and you). The gameplay is completely addictive, an
