Summer Full o' Superheroes pt. 6 - Captain America

A friend of mine got me into a free screening for Captain America the other evening, complete with free popcorn, soda and snacks! Now, despite this, I promise that this will in no way bias my review towards what is obviously the greatest movie in the history of cinema!   Okay, it wasn't that great. But Captain America was still pretty good.   Or rather, that should read "'Captain America: The First Avenger' was still pretty good", because after all, there may be two or three people on p

And then that happened...

Been piecing away at this one for a few weeks now...     May 5th, 2011...   Remember this entry? It featured the first appearance of the HD can-of-worms which we were just about to open up at work.   Four years ago.   Well, in honor of us finally achieving high-defness at work, I decided to finish it up in color.     Ooooooo...     I painted over the original sketch in Painter, and it just looked better with the sketch left intact, rather than a clean background. Not sure w

Yes, yes... another Tron-related blog entry.   Ah... but this one is completely different!   According to Tron-Sector, the original Tron is going to be screened in a number of theaters in special midnight showings around the U.S. in the coming months.   Here's the current list:   April 22 Nuart - Los Angeles April 30 Ken - San Diego May 6-7 Esquire - Denver May 13-14 Uptown - Minneapolis May 20-21 E Street - Washington D.C. Predictions for 2011

It's January, which means it's time to guess incorrectly at what isn't going to happen this year.   I mean after the Seahawks beat the Saints today in the playoffs... there pretty-much isn't any point in trying to predict anything.   But first, a recap of my predictions from last year:   Apple will release a tablet computer - it will be more than just a big iPod... - Right. Mostly. The iPad was just a big iPod though, but managed to transcend that market and effectively kickstart the

Back in the Seattle (again)

I just got back from a nice, long vacation in Seattle. I never took a vacation last summer (it was insanely hectic at work), so it was nice to catch up on rest and relaxation for a few weeks.   It was also a good opportunity to recharge my creative batteries, which frankly, had pretty-much run dry. I've got several homebrew projects I should be working on (labels and graphics), so I'm hoping now to be able to get back to them in all earnestness, and with renewed vigor.   Just as soon as the

Good riddance to bad rubbish... Part 3

So long, Domino's!   I've tolerated Domino's pizza for years. Sometimes it's pretty good, but more often than not, it's flavorless and bland. The only way it's halfway decent is to get extra sauce dumped on it (which then turns it into a soggy mess). Even after their so-called "improved" recipe, nothing really changed my opinion of them. The only reason I stuck with them as long as I did, was because there was one close enough to where I live so they could deliver. And when you're lazy and hun

B-cos, that's why!

Oh sure... you may love Anime, but do you love it as much as these people?     Well, in that case, you've likely been at the 2008 Anime Expo. Even more likely, you're into Cosplay.   And frankly, you're creeping me out just a little right now.   That said, it's time to check out the Expo's Cosplay photo galleries, and play everyone's favorite game...   Dude... or Chick? Play along at home! Just peruse the galleries below, and ask yourself whenever you see someone festooned in all the

Summer Full o' Superheroes pt. 4 - X-Men: First Class

Sheesh... I'm up to part 4 already. I guess I'm committed to this for the long haul, now.   I went and saw X-Men: First Class at a late Friday night showing. Usually, I'll wait a week or so to go see a film to avoid lines or crowds, but well... I was bored. So I decided to go see it.   The first two X-Men films were okay, but I never felt that they got all of the characters quite right. (Anna Paquin?? Gimme a break.) It felt like they took random bits and pieces of characters and stories,

The "Weird Al" Curse

The is nearly upon us. And if you're a pop culture icon... be afraid. Be very afraid.  Of course, if you are a pop culture icon, the odds of you actually reading this blog right now are pretty-much zero.   Anyway, you've heard of the "Superman" Curse, the "Diff'rent Strokes" Curse, and the "Poltergeist" Curse, right? Where a string of seemingly improbable deaths or tragedies are all coincidentally related to a single pop culture event or phenomenon?   Well, I've got my own theory: The
