Okay. Justice League is finally here. Now, I wasn't a big fan of Man of Steel. Or Batman v Superman. Or The Dark Knight Rises. Or Green Lantern. This isn't a Marvel vs. DC thing. The comic book characters I liked. I grew up with them. This was DC just not understanding how to take those great characters and translate them well to the big screen. The heroes just weren't likable. The villains were forgettable. The films were a dreary chore to sit through. I didn't care about the heroes, or w
I got out to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi a couple of nights ago. But before we get to the review… two things: 1) Remember my rant a few years ago about how awful movie theaters are? And later how I found movie theaters that corrected those problems? Well, to see any movie now, much less a Star Wars film, I'm really particular about where I see it. Since I'm in Seattle at the moment, I'd hoped to go to the Cinerama again, where I saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, we found an alternati
The Imitation Game is…
Wait a second.
It just occurred to me that writing these reviews is an awful lot like writing book reports back in high school.
I hated writing book reports.
The Imitation Game gets an 8/10.
First of all... it's 110° outside today. For the second day in a row. Tomorrow will be the same. Fortunately, on Sunday, it will finally drop "down" into the high 90's. This is one of those days where you're only outside long enough to run from one air-conditioned space to another.
Last wiikend, however, I got to go down to my friends' place in Redondo Beach, where it was nice and cool. It wouldn't take a whole lot of convincing for me to move down there, except I'd absolutely have to get a
Well, DC finally got one right! That's pretty-much all you wanted to know, right? We're done here? No? Okay. Fine... we'll do the review thing. By far, the best character in Batman v. Superman was Wonder Woman. She was the only one who looked like she was having any fun. Whether her limited screen time would translate well to a feature film was the big question. Fortunately, it did. Gal Gadot carries this movie. As she should, being Wonder Woman and all that. She does a great job
When it's an "animated film". This year's Walter and Gracie Lantz Animation Prize winner, Yonatan Tal, said the other night when accepting the award, "We can make cartoons... but we'd rather make animation." That's a pretty interesting distinction, and one that wasn't lost on me when watching our student films this year. For many of the films, they felt less like traditional cartoons, and more like short stories that happened to be animated. As with last year, and the 22 years that preceded
Continuing with the latest batch of reviews. This time: Puzzle Games! AStar 4/5 AStar is a puzzle game with a unique play mechanic. The object of the game is to move a yellow pie-shaped character (Bob) around a maze, and collect various items. What makes it unique, is that you can only move in straight lines, and can't stop until you run into something. To help you navigate the maze, you can switch over to another character - a yellow square (Alan) - that moves the same way. Using the two ch
Well, it's almost the end of October.
And it's taken all month, but finally, it's here.
Baskin-Robbins Pumpkin Pie ice cream. My annual addiction, as I've mentioned a couple of times before in this blog.
So I've stocked up. I've got a quart of it in the freezer.
Which should last me about one, maybe two... scoops.
Well, they're open again tomorrow.
Speaking of food... I haven't really posted anything from the finished Gingerbread Man manual. I'm kind of holding off o
I just realized, that as of yesterday, I've posted to my blog five days in a row! While this is a completely meaningless statistic, I've decided to try and go for a solid week of blog entries, and make it an even bigger completely meaningless statistic!
So, with today and tomorrow left to deal with, I'd better come up with something to post about. Just putting up a mostly empty entry would be cheating.
Umm... well, I did get a first pass at the Rai
So, what I'd planned to post about yesterday, was that I've built my first CheepTech project in awhile...
What is it? Well, it's an Asteroids controller for the 2600/7800 of course! Doesn't it live up to all of your wildest expectations?
No?
Not even the duct tape?
Man... there's just no pleasing some people.
If it looks familiar, then you've probably been bored enough to snoop around my CheepTech site and found this page. What I did, was gut out the old home-made switch
I haven't seen a whole lot of movies this summer, including most of the big action blockbusters. Maybe I'm just tired of having my senses (or sensibilities) assaulted, but I really haven't missed them any.
That said, me and a couple of friends wanted to go see something, so we looked through the listings and found Moon.
Moon has kind of fallen under the radar this summer since it's not a big-budget, well-advertised, mainstream-audience movie. But it is well-reviewed, and looked like it w
