Family cat is gone....

Well, my mom gave me some sad news. Our family cat disappeared 2 weeks ago. Not a trace of her. My mom said she appeared healthy before she disappeared. It's pretty weird. I really miss this cat. Really wish I had seen more of her before this happened. :(I hated to tell my mom, but I don't think "Calico" is coming back. She might have gone off somewhere to die. Pretty old cat though. She's 15 years old. Oh well. If she doesn't come back, I'll make a shrine of sorts for her. I loved that cat. Stil

Lunchtime

Hmm. So far, it's been a boring day. Not much going on. Typical work day. Looking forward to the weekend though. After class tomorrow, I'll head up to visit the 'rents for my birthday. Should be interesting.Got another letter from my brother. He seems to be doing good in the can. He's gained 20lbs but most of it is muscle as he claims. That can't be a bad thing as he's always been scrawny. He'll need it for when he writes a check with his mouth that his ass can't cash. Just sharing some random t

Another birthday?

Man, almost done with the month! My birthday is coming up on Sunday and I can't quite tell if I'm looking forward to it or not. I'm going to be 24. 24? Damn. Get me a walker already! I would rather be 17 again! Actually, I feel like a 17 year old physically but mentally, I'm an old man. I asked my mom for a cake as usual because in my opinion, you might as well take a free cake anyway. I don't eat cake often. The last time I had cake was 3-4 weeks ago. I don't fully remember. I also asked for

My work ethic and who I am

I recently had an interesting discussion with a friend of mine. We both come from very different backgrounds. He probably went to a better school than I did and goes to UVM. I went to what is considered to be a "not-so-good" school and I go to CCV (community college). It's interesting how we agree/disagree on certain things. His idea of getting by is to use SSDI. I work full-time, 40 hours. He's a full time student. I'm nearly-full time, with 3 courses (4 is classified as full-time). He has a str

Sex: Is it truly overrated?

Lately, I've been thinking a lot more about my behavior of the sexual kind. I never foresaw becoming active again in that area and lately, I've had a bit of difficulty comphrending the effects and purposes of my sexual behavior lately. For example, is casual sex just plain wrong or can it be done without both sides getting hurt emotionally? How do I know where barriers are and to not cross them? It basically has made me question my actions a lot more carefully. There are things to consider when

Left wing reading list

What would you recommend that a lefty read? I've read parts of the "Communist Manifesto" by Marx and Engells and "A peoples history of the United States" by Howard Zinn. I've also read "Media Control" by Noam Chomsky and several other pamphlets/books.Can anyone recommend any other books for me to check out?Alternatively, if you have any other non-specific political book suggestions, let me know.

Working in small groups

Have any of you ever dreaded working in a small group with people you don't know? I have for a long time. One of my courses is called "Interpersonal and Small Group Communication". Naturally, I dread the idea of working with strangers. However, I'm will to learn to somehow co-exist with the folks I've been asked to work with. It's not always easy though. I have a project due next week that involved giving a 30 minute presentation on Chapter 4 of the book we are reading. So far, I've read the fir

198lbs

Well, I've done it again. After several days of vigorous exercise and modest dieting, I've finally cracked 200lbs and down to 198lbs. I've been walking 4-5miles the past few days, usually on Mon, Wed and Fri to get to my classes. It's fun to save gas and at the same time, challenge myself to get more exercise during the week. It's obviously paid off. I've found it harder to eat less though but I've been trying out different methods. It won't be long before I'll be at my goal. I still have a belly

Crash the books time

And the saga begins....That is, the saga of how I will balance 3 courses and a 40 hour a week job. Started my Int. Programming for Internet course yesterday and now all 3 courses are a go! I'm definitely not looking forward to Math tomorrow night but I'm sure it will not be that hard. I don't even know what my homework for Int.Programming for Internet is. The instructor promised to post the homework for us to look at online but of course( ) he must have forgotten. Actually, this couse has 2 ins

Classes begin again

Well, I continue my education yet again tonight. I have a Basic Algebra course that starts in about 37 minutes. Wow. So that means that I will be a lot busier soon. On Friday, my course in Small Group Communication begins. Also, on Monday, my course in Intermediate Programming for the Internet begins. I will have 3 courses and 1 full time job to deal with. Am I going to succeed? I think so. I never back down from a challenge. After all, what would life be without such challenges? I know it would

People who are fat, dumb and ignorant

It's true. Before you take offense to the title of this post, think about things. Look at where the country has been going the past 25 or so years. Look at the legions of overweight people that hobble over to pay for the gas for their bloated SUVs. Look at the overweight people that use an elevator to get to another floor when the stairs are easier to take and good for their hearts. Look at the overweight people that waddle happily to their cars with a shopping cart completely full of crap they

I want a fucking cat!

I hope some of you don't mind double blog entries. I saw gospeede's blog and her post about cats and I couldn't help but offer my two cents. What's wrong with having a cat? My landlord still refuses to allow it. It's quite funny because I can think of 3 other neighbors that keep cats. I wonder, how are they getting away with this? Not to judge my neighbors wrong or anything, but I've seen them and they don't appear to have any physical disabilities. My landlord said they'd only allow cats in that

Why is Wednesday called "hump day"?

It's a very odd expression but I hear people refer to Wednesday as "Hump day" all the time. Some of them say that it has to do with the fact that Wed is considered the middle of the week. Others say that they "hump" on Wednesdays. Just another useless expression that I hear all the time.I can't stop think about Hurricane Katrina. The way it has obliterated New Orleans is just so tragic and awe-inspiring at the same time. Never underestimate the power of Mother Nature to cause such things to ha

Mondays

Oh, how I hate Mondays. I'd go into detail further but let's just say that it's no fun covering for someone, especially someone who isn't cooperating and doing the job the way I ask. Hmm.Other than that, the weather is crap. I want a cool, crisp autumn day. Instead, it's nearly 80 degrees out and a bit hazy. I can't wait for September to roll around. My birthday is less than a month away as well. Can't wait to get home from work and try to get that C64 to work. It's going to take some patience f

Ever have a crush on someone?

I must confess that I have a crush on someone. I won't say her name or anything but let's just say that she's probably one of the nicest looking women I've ever met. We both like the Misfits but other than that, I can't think of anything else in common. I really wish I could communicate with this girl but I always run out of words when I try to. I know there's a high possibility that she might be taken. However, I can't deny my crush on her. What do you do if you have a crush on someone? Do you

A summary of things for those who care

My job has changed quite a bit since November of last year. I started out as a custodian but for the past 3 months, things have changed radically. I believe due to the departure of several people, that it's opened up new opportunities for me to pursue. Instead of sticking mainly to cleaning, I've posted 5 parts of my job (changed so that you don't learn TOO much about what I do):I. Cleaning and maintaining two buildings, working with another custodian.II. Ordering supplies for our departmentIII.

A rant about society

rantI've often dealt with a lot of shitty people in my life. People who judge on everything, from looks to what you do for money to all kinds of things. It's a never-ending cycle. My question is, why don't people appreciate honest folks like myself anymore? All this stems from the fact that because I make $8.50/hr (which I feel is too low), I'll gladly pick up bottles and cans at work and return them for money. However, I feel uncomfortable whenever someone walks by and glances with an uneasy lo

I like Batari Basic

I haven't played around with Batari Basic for two days now. However, I really like using it. I figured out how to change the playfield color and edit the basic sprites that came with the sample program. If I can do that, I should be able to design an actual game. I don't know when I'll be able to sit down and work on it again though. I would love to be able to create a game though because I see that as a great way to give back to this community and have some fun.It is about freakin' time. Batari

Vacation's almost over...

Blah. I had one whole week to do something and amazingly, nothing got done. Gotta get ready to get back into the rush at work. That and my classes start again on September 7th. I'll be a busy man, juggling a full time job with 3 classes on Mon night, Wed night and Fri morning. Will need all the luck in the world. What worries me though is how I'm going to manage my diet while taking night courses. I could switch to a can of Slim Fast for my supper on those nights along with something else just

In love with a girl...

I met someone really cool on Fri at a party and we talked and danced for hours. Ended up making out a big in front of a bonfire and all. She says she really likes me but wants to learn how to communicate better using ASL. Before we parted ways Sunday, she gave me her number and address. I'm going to call her later.Really believe that this will work. Spontaneous and unexpected. I definitely felt something there and it wouldn't be right if I didn't pursue it.Just had to share.

My brother's in jail..again

I didn't think this would happen again but it has. Apparently, my brother went back to jail on Thurs night. Haven't seen or heard from him either. My parents think that his girlfriend set him up because he wasn't supposed to be around certain people and his g/f let one of those people into his apartment when he was sleeping to use the bathroom and a cop knocked on the door afterwards. Might have been a coincidence, but he was bound to go back to jail sooner or later. It's not easy to accept but

Learning the ropes

I've been taking on more responsibility at work lately. First, my boss asks me to order our cleaning supplies. Before you know it, I'm in charge of tracking our budge by month. Also heard that the head of the Internet dept wants me to work on some projects with them. Pinch me, but am I just dreaming? Are the pieces finally starting to fall into place?

I have another car

Well, my parents cracked and told me that they were sick of the fact that I've never had a half-way decent car. My said that I deserved something better so they helped me pick out a car yesterday. I still owe them money, but they're not going to be as strict about it due to my financial situation. The car is a 1999 Hyundai Accent GS with 73k miles. We bought it yesterday and since it had been sitting on a lot for 6 months, a problem arose with the fuel filter. The car's back at the dealer and ho

Time flies too fast

Ever notice just how fast a week can go? I can't believe how fast it has gone. I've been taking up more responsibilities at work and it can be stressful at times. However, I'm grateful for it because I'd otherwise feel lost. It was hard to deal with all the folks that left, but things have gotten much better in the past 2 weeks. I just hope it continues to pick up. I am going to the annual beer festival this weekend. I hope it goes really well.
