My thoughts on everything.

Gotta have them all

Well, I just bought Fantasy Zone for the NES from eBay. I think I overpaid, but not by very much (which is why I bought it.) So once the payment clears and it's shipped to me, I'll have every black Tengen NES title. I've been wanting to complete this collection ever since I started it, and I think I did. Right now, I have 19 different titles, and Fantasy Zone will be the 20th. The black NES carts rock! I think they look cool. Also, (I've said this before), I find it fascinating that even in the

Giving up on Game Gear oranges.

I decided that after I could not get the collision detection working for Oranges Game Gear version, I decided to just give up. I tried lots of stuff and nothing works. It says there's a collision when there really isn't one. So I ditched that attempt and tried to program a collision detection routine of my own, but that failed too. Makes one wonder why I actually finished the Game Boy one. I'm guessing it's mostly because Game Boy uses C while Game Gear uses assembly. I don't understand assembly

Are missiles really neccessary?

I'm just wondering, do you guys want to shoot stuff while navigating through the mazes? And if so, what? Should I have part of the playfield covering up the treasure and you shoot that away in order to get it? Or how about I use up the player1 sprite and add like the Loch Ness Monster or something? Anyway, I'm still working on this.

Idiots and snow.

The stupid moron who I bought the High Seize from yesterday still hasn't shipped it. Anyway, I got a dumping of snow on the ground yesterday. I went to sleep at 5pm (there was about 3.5 inches of snow then), and woke up 11 hours later and found the coils on the hose laying out front are almost covered in snow. You can barely see the tips of them. It's so bad, even the state offices are closed until noon. (I don't know why noon. The snow will still be on the ground then.) So last night before I w

Lode Runner level 2 is impossible.

Oops. Did someone forget to playtest this game? I got Lode Runner for PS1, and it's the original Lode Runner and sequel on one disc. But apparently they didn't invent playtesting in 1983 since level 2 is impossible. The trouble lies in the southeast corner of the screen. Those gold bars are impossible to get to. I've tried everything and nothing works. Why would they bother even making a level 3 if level 2 is impossible? GameFAQs has no FAQs on this. I tried pressing every button. I read the man

Nintendo 3DS want list

Since I just got a 3DS, I did some research and there isn't very many games I'm actually looking forward to owning. The main reason for me getting one is so that I could play Mario Kart 7 once it comes out. But looking through the release dates, nothing much has jumped out at me saying "I need this!" Here are a couple I found though.   Mario Kart 7 - 12/4 Super Mario 3D Land - 11/13 Tetris Axis - out now   See what I mean? And Bust-A-Move is the game I got with it, since the store I went t

I'm scared of Nintendo's suckiness

I have decided to pull the plug on Super Giuseppe. Seeing as what Nintendo did with Princess Rescue and everything, I decided not to risk it. I sure am glad I got a copy of Princess Rescue, though, and will cherish it forever. I guess this whole thing is due to Nintendo's greediness that someone else is profiting off the Mario franchise. I wonder if they know that people are making homebrew games for not just the NES, but SNES and even Virtual Boy? Why not go after them? After all, people are ma

I fixed an Atari 2600

So I got out my spare, backup Atari 2600 out of the garage to see if it would give me an improved picture quality. No, in fact no picture. The thing was broken. It would light up for a tenth of a second and then nothing. I thought to myself "It's dead. I can't harm it any more," so I laid the thing down on the dining room table and attempted an operation.   Attempting to put the thing back together was the hardest part. I think it's a "Vader", if it has 4 switches. It kept forcing the

Popeye: Rush For Spinach

Popeye is no stranger to video games. But he was when this one came out. His last video game appearance was in the '80s. But I guess they wanted to introduce Popeye to new people. This is not the way to do it.   Popeye is not a platforming game. Rather it is a racing game that looks like a platformer. Think Mario, but your intention is crossing the finish line first. Thankfully this game has a password system so if you cared enough, you could probably google the passwords or go to GameFAQs if

Skeptical part 2.

Well, it's Wednesday night heading into Thursday, and it's snowing. But it didn't do very much and as a result, it looks like we are going to end the snow season with 0 inches. Poor experts really got it wrong on this one. For them to be right, it has to snow all night long and not stop, and I doubt it will do that. Plus, it's above freezing (around 35), so I doubt it would stick even if it did snow all night. So I am glad I am not a meteorologist right now. Man, they really blew it this time. "

Confused?

So I thought to myself, "I guess not many people have played Chu Chu Rocket for the Dreamcast. I'd guess I'd better tape myself playing the game and put it on YouTube." And this was the result. It's kind of hard to see the ultimate top for some reason, but this is the only way I could do it unless I dragged the Odyssey 2 into the living room and hook it up that way. And it's hot. So I didn't. And also, it's kind of hard to play if you're trying to show it to people but you already know the answe

I look at Chetiry

Chetiry came in the mail today. An excuse to do another (crappy) YouTube Review for it. I can't do very much in the way of quality with the crappy electronic stuff I have. OK I gave you enough warning. Look if you dare. http://youtu.be/kJ7Qb1N6EcM

Any bird experts here?

So there's this bird sitting on a chair in the courtyard out front. I was looking outside, and he wasn't moving, so I went and got my camera. By the time I came back about 15 seconds later, he was still there. I tried to take his picture. The blinds got in the way and the camera wanted to focus in on the blinds and not what was outside. The fourth time was the charm, and I got this. Now there's a question: What type of bird is he (or it could be a her, I guess.) I'm no bird expert, and so I d

Jaguar lot for sale?

Hi all, it's time I got rid of my Atari Jaguar since I don't play it. I have absolutely no idea how much this all costs, so bear with me here, that and also I haven't sold anything this big before. Here's what's up for sale:   Atari Jaguar system with hookups and one controller Cybermorph Flashback Tempest 2000 (with box and instructions) Flip-Out (with box and instructions)   I also don't know how much shipping will be, because like I said before, I haven't shipped anything this big bef

Shocking tech confessions.

I am about ready to bare my soul here. Confession #1: I don't have an iPod. Confession #2: I don't have a MySpace page. There. I feel much better. And guess what, gang? I killed another moth last night! That makes two moths dead. I wouldn't have noticed it as quickly as I did if my cat hadn't batted at it. By the way, my cat is crazy. Either crazy or senile. She'll turn 14 this winter. We have no idea how old she is because we saved her from life as a farm cat when she was a kitten. And I think

Dreaming big

I hope to one day have something like one of the web's best places for videos, For Portlanders Only!, but for Salem. It is a very few select group in Salem that know that there's an over-the-air station called KWVT on channel 17, mainly for the fact that it's not on Comcast. I think the cable system in Brooks has it, and some other puny town's cable has it, but not Salem Comcast. Nuh-uh. They hate us because Comcast is evil. When I first read about then-channel 52 in the newspaper (they moved to

I'm keeping it.

Since nobody wanted to take me up on my offer, I guess I'll keep the thing. I learned something, though. I thought I had a special Cybermorph controller. Turns out it was actually just an overlay! Oh well, anyway, I took the overlay off, and lo and behold, there was a keypad controller with digits 0-9 and a # and *, just like a telephone, which makes me want to make a game for the Jaguar where you have to call people with the keypad, like maybe a detective game or something. Too bad I don't kno

Microvision.

I was wondering if homebrew development would be possible on the Microvision. Could you take an existing game and then modify it to do whatever you wanted it to do instead of its original game? I'm just wondering since I'm going to get one of these things. If so, that would be too cool. The only time I saw a Microvision in person was at the used video game store a few years back. I wonder why I didn't get it. Probably because I was too stupid to know what it was. I'm guessing they're similar to

I'm A Geezer!

So it's past my birthtime (hey, do you know yours?), so now I am officially 30. So far (in the first hour of being 30), it doesn't feel any different. I went to McGrath's earlier and got some clam strips. Mom took me there for my birthday. I also am listening to the new Neil Young/Crazy Horse album. No, being 30 feels just like being 29 or 28. But now that I am 30, I consider myself a geezer because I'm not in my 20s anymore. The party will be tomorrow since it's Saturday and nobody will be work

My stupid computer

Suddenly, my computer was acting real slow. So I decided to turn it off. When I turned it back on, it didn't do anything. So I ran Windows Repair. It couldn't find the problem. So I figured I will have to get a new computer. I turned it on again. This time Windows Repair was scanning the whole disk, and it said it would take an hour. But it only took ten or so minutes and it said it completed its repair. After starting the computer up a third time, it took a little bit for Windows to come on, bu

I need a pixel artist to help me again.

I have been working on Frank the Fruit Fly again. Apparently I keep thinking of stuff I can't draw well to be in this game. This time it's an evergreen tree. It's odd though because I can draw them from far away, but not close up like this. The tree is about 50 pixels high. I tried to make it and this is the result: As you can see, it's not really all that good looking. It looks more like an arrow pointing up. Oh well, at least I don't need help PROGRAMMING the game. At least not this time. And

I can't buy anything over the internet anymore

Well, I could pay, but chances are I won't receive anything. It seems like the postal service is not delivering packages to me any more. I don't know why. It's as though I did something wrong or something. But how could I? All I do is they used to come in the mail on the porch and I would usually hear them drop the package on my porch and then go out and get it. But I bought two things at the end of January (one I paid on the 26th) and they haven't come yet. Can the postal service withhold mail

DOOMed

I was extremely bored. So I thought I'd give Doom for the Jaguar another go. I got as far as level 3 when all of a sudden, I kept walking around in circles. I swear I must have killed every single creature there because I had no idea where I was going. After about 20 minutes of this, I fell into the lava and couldn't get out of it. I said "Screw this," and gave up. So why people think that was fun in the '90s is still a mystery to me. I want to love the Jaguar, I really do, but there are almost

3DS games!

I got three 3DS games today. I put a review up of Asphalt 3D on the http://www.atari2600land.com/3ds/ 3DS reviews page. I also went into a Buyback$ store for the second time and this time I actually purchased a couple used cheapies: SpongeBob SquigglePants 3D and Steel Diver. Got them both for under $30, not only that, the stickers are really easy to get off. If only Gamestop's were that easy (grr.) But I can't review SBSP and SD right now because my eye began hurting (which is regular) and I ne

4 more levels! 4 more levels!

Here's pics of a couple new levels (I replaced some of the old levels). I have room for about 4 more new ones before I don't have anything left in bank 2 (which is used for storing all the level design info.) So come on and get designing! The first one is E.T. on his side and Pac-Man, an homage to two of the worst games (or so they say) for the 2600. The second one was designed by gambler172 and the third one will be the last level (seems fitting because it says "The End.")
