Upmonster again

I went to work on the Upmonster game again I've been making. After trying to fix the jump, I think I discovered why it was doing the high/low jumps: It had something to do with the way I was scrolling the screen. So I put in a bit of code and it looks way better. But then I had a bug in the 2 player game where it wasn't displaying the "P2 WON" message sometimes. I think I finally figured out why that was happening. But something seemed off. The upmonster was jumping on clouds, but the title sc

Movies that start with Q

I've made a list of some I'd like to see.   Quadrophenia (1979) Queen of the Damned (2002) Quest For Camelot (1998) Quigley Down Under (1990) Quiz Show (1994)   Out of all those, I think Quigley Down Under would be the most interesting. Quiz Show would probably be interesting, too, because it talks about how the quiz shows back in the 50's and 60's are rigged. I asked my mom about 'Quigley' and she said she likes Tom Selleck. I have seen a movie that begins with Q (if you don't count 'th

NES ad I found

While going through some old tapes I had of Nickelodeon (just Ren and Stimpy, as a kid I WISELY taped the ads), I ran across this old ad I had of the redesigned NES. I've decided to relaunch the late NES page I had and put this old ad on here. I also have a print ad I need to scan and put on the site as well. So anyway, I am wondering if the ad will be viewable with the old html code I had laying around for videos. If you don't mind, go to the page with the ad on it and tell me if you can play i

Room 38

I'm happy that the rodents are gone. Not only that, the big huge spider I mentioned in a status update left yesterday morning. So with everything gone and nice, I decided to work on Castle of Doom again. I was originally going to have a level that looked like a snake since I went to Game Crazy today and got Wildsnake for the SNES. I already had it for the Game Boy, but I decided to get it any way just to help them stay in business. I'm so nice.   What the level ended up like is the blog entry

SNES homebrew: where to get them?

I went to the game store and got Kirby Super Star for SNES. I beat Spring Breeze. And it made me think of what homebrew games are available (Don't ask me how my mind works, I don't know.) I cleaned my DKC cart which was horribly dirty and actually got it running now. I am listening to the map music as ambiance. So I went on a google search, but didn't really find much. An outdated list of what was in stock as of 2012 at NA was all I could come up with after googling "Super NES homebrew". So I po

Fire Pro Wrestling

It's back! GBA Chronogaming is back! Seeing as how this is from BAM! Entertainment, which has a lousy track record, I was expecting a lousy game. And that is exactly what I got. It could have been a contender, but instead, with the difficulty setting on ONE, I was being wiped on the floor. This didn't last three minutes until I turned it off in disgust. The CPU opponent was kicking me, punching me and outright beating me up. Sure, I got a few kicks in (or did I? I couldn't tell.) but I suck at t

Frank the fruit fly update: August 10, 2017

I wanted to go to sleep at midnight, I really did, but I just couldn't shut my mind off. I was thinking of stuff to do instead of just laying in bed for a half-hour trying to sleep being bored. So I got up and began work on Frank the Fruit Fly again. This time I put a banana in. It replenishes health. So I thought "Why do that if he doesn't lose health to begin with?" Well, if he doesn't go in the cat's stomach acid, anyway. So I made it so the longer Frank is inside the cat's mouth, the more he

My teacher ate 2,600 lemons.

So while I was looking through my 2600 manual collection, I came across a Desert Falcon manual. And I thought "Wow. They made new 2600 games up until 1990." Then it occurred to me: If people make homebrew 2600 games, then I should make another one, too. After all, my name isn't IntellivisionLand. So I began work on a 2600 version of My History Teacher Ate Lemons. While working on it, I decided to make the sky visible, so I could do some neat stuff with it. An example is a bird flying in the sk

Life Without Bankswitching

I often imagine what Atari 2600 games would have been like had they not discovered bankswitching and they had to be 2k maximum. I guess they would be more like the early titles, like Combat. Primitive-looking. Part of the appeal to me is trying to cram ideas in to a 2k space. It's a challenge. Now, normally I hate challenges, which is why me programming seems so wrong. But if the computer decides to stop being a jerk and actually work, then it's fun. While I was working on I Hate Vegetables, I h

Midway Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection 1

Asteroids, Battlezone, Centipede, Missile Command, Super Breakout, and Tempest are here to play on your Super NES. One bad thing I can say about this is there's no way to exit the game unless you die. That and it doesn't take very much time to go into demo mode, only like 5 seconds of inactivity. And it doesn't save your high scores. But I guess the good news is they're arcade perfect, so there's that. And the "1" in the title is a bit misleading, as this is the only Atari collection on the SNES

Squaresville.

I like designing fonts. A long time ago I had a font program that let me import pictures into glyphs. Well, a few years ago, I remembered that old program and decided to hunt for a similar one. Lo and behold, I had to pay to make my fonts be actual fonts. So I did. It was around $30 or something. And after making a few test fonts, it sat on this computer unused. Until tonight. I made a font. It's called Squaresville. You'll see why if you download it. I have attached it here just in case you wan

Squared Away

As most of you already know, I pump out a whole bunch of bB games without really having a chance to make them shine. But this one I think is really nice. And I think I'll keep working on this one to the end. I know I say that about every game, but I didn't really have the programming skills necessary to make ToobBin' a great game. So, I present to you the first of many versions of my new game, Squared Away.   PLAYING: At the title screen, press fire to start a new game. You are the yellow sq

The Jungle Book (NES)

Well, after searching for this title for like a million years (the other being Wario's Woods), I looked at the Goat Store and lo and behold, they had the Jungle Book. (Still have to search for Wario's Woods, though.) The main reason for wanting this game is because of its elaborate secret cheat system. All you have to do to access it is to go into the sound test and play sounds 40, 30, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, and 15. I doubt anyone here has this game though (it's kind of rare). From there it goes to

YouTube is going crazy again.

I just uploaded a clip onto YouTube. When I went to see it, it started playing it, even though I didn't tell it to. It just did automatically. And of course, it makes it count as a view. Now, I only did this about two or three times. This raises questions. 1.) Why did it all of a sudden start doing this? and 2.) How do I make it STOP? I don't want it to do this. I just want to periodically check on views of some YouTube clips while listening to music on Windows Media Player and I don't want to b

Game.com 1999 releases suck

I just got Scrabble in the mail. What I didn't realize is there's no boxes for the 1999 releases. Or rather, you have to destroy whatever packaging there is to get the game. Tiger probably did this to save money, but what a drag. Here I was hoping for a complete (someday) game.com collection with boxes, only to find out that the 1999 releases do not have boxes! So I guess I'll be saving my opened with scissors clamshell box. I also noticed that the instructions are one folded up sheet rather tha

A year of music

...is approximately 75 minutes, give or take a few. I've completely forgot about this project. Now I have about 8 months to compose approximately 67 minutes worth of music. Well, I don't HAVE to, but I want to. Mostly, I want to remember the darn project. Last year as a Christmas present, I gave my family 75 minutes' worth of instrumental music. I had a head start there, cuz I composed part 1 in 2007. So, "My Butt Hurts" parts 1-5 were done and put on a CD. I want to do "My Butt Hurts" parts 6-1

Back in business

So I finally found the CD-ROM of that program that let me make videos and DVDs. I had to reinstall it. That took about an hour. And I couldn't just leave it on its own because I had to keep clicking on buttons that kept popping up. I got done with the program installing and took it for a spin. It works just as I remembered it did before it quit working for some reason (this was when I had enough and decided to factory-reset the entire computer.)   Anyway, the point is I can make DVDs a

Nintendo sucks

OK, I've given up on getting a Wii because it doesn't exist. So I am going to get me either an Xbox 360 or PS3. I bet I can at least find ONE for sale. Nintendo sucks. It's been a year and a half and there are no Wiis anywhere. I wish I could say the Wii doesn't suck, but how should I know? I haven't played one yet, and I never will because Nintendo is stupid enough to make like three of them worldwide and then quit production forever. And then they sell their games in commercials, but you can't

I don't care

So my stupid doctor's blood tests came back and apparently I have high cholesterol, which means I have to start eating crappy foods that taste bad. Well, I don't have to, I don't want to, but apparently my doctor seems to care more about my health than I do. I've been living with this for years and I'm not dead or sick. I wouldn't mind dying, though. I'd be dead, so I wouldn't mind it. If my stupid doctor is guilt tripping me into eating crap, I'd rather be dead so I wouldn't have to eat crap an

i is for intro

So I began thinking of something to do with the Odyssey 2, thinking that the I Like Bacon game wasn't going to cut it. I then thought of that game I started featuring the letter Q. That made me think about the Atari 2600 game I started about the letter i who uses his dot as a weapon. So I put the two together and started a new Odyssey 2 game about the letter i. It's called "lowercase i." I had thought about naming it just "i", but I thought in the end it would be confusing. I also tried to make

GoSub DS: The first two levels

Well, I worked on this a whole bunch. I added two levels, sound effects, music, sub movement. You can download it, as well as keep up with the latest version, http://www.atari2600land.com/gosubds/ there. I am also quite curious on how this works on a real DS, as I have no way of testing this. I don't have the things necessary to play homebrew DS games on a DS. I tried to figure out how to do that, but I didn't understand Wikipedia's DS homebrew page. I have a fat DS. I think I bought it with my

The Bathroom Likers' Association

When I was a kid, I saw this interesting book called a "bathroom reader" that was made by "Uncle John." OK, well not a kid, more like an adolescent. So I bought it. And found it utterly fascinating, mixing reference with humor, the perfect reading material, not just for in the bathroom, either, this saying a guy who poops a lot. I was 17 when I attempted making my own bathroom reader. Being just one person, I had made a 36-page one in 2000. A second one followed in 2001, and then darkness. I was

An HTML lesson.

So I went to sleep at 8pm because I was tired again. I woke up at 2:30am. It was then that I decided to write some more of my story from a few days ago. So I did. I spent about an hour and a half writing it. I intended to stop at 10,000 words. It was hard trying to reach that milestone without hardly advancing the story too much. Because once I hit 10,000 words, the story was only half over. So I did. And I uploaded the story onto my website. I was glad I had kept the other story I wrote on th

I gotz da bongos!

Well, I went to the game store. Sitting on the shelf behind glass was a pair of DK Bongos with Donkey Konga. I saw some before, but, after not seeing anything else as interesting, I bought them. Sure, there was a Sega Master System, but I already had one (that I never play. Maybe I'll sell it at the garage sale this summer.) There was a Genesis 3, but I passed. I got the bongos. Now all I need is Donkey Konga 2 and Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat. I wonder: Can an American GameCube play Japanese games?

Wear Your Love Like Heaven

I watched that Barbara Walters special on Heaven last night. The last thing I want to do is have a deep argument about religion here, but I had no idea that most everyone believes there is such a place. I thought it was very interesting, and had interviews with the Dalai Lama and an unsuccessful suicide bomber who was in jail (who said anyone who isn't Muslim is going to Hell). Another interesting thing is that the part about Islam beliefs that there are 72 virgins in Heaven doesn't come from th
