TV gone in 10 years

I have good reason to believe there will be no more TV shows in 2025. If you want entertainment, you will have no choice but to subscribe to Hulu or some other crap. Which is sad because I liked not being able to pay for network shows. But even those will be gone 10 years from now. All this stupid crappy world is about is money. And greed. Greed is stupid. If I was president, anyone who showed even the slightest bit of greed would be executed. Not only would the world be a better place, but we'd

Stuff under my bed.

I was looking for something last night and decided to check under the bed. While I never did find what I was looking for, I did find my spare game.com cartridge. So if the time comes when someone figures out and codes a homebrew game.com and figures out how to make a game.com flash cart, I'll be ready. I also found my Intellivision Voice Module. I wondered where it went. Turns out it was under my bed. It is super hot here (90 or so right now) and has been for the past few days. Our normal high r

Alien Greed 5 (part 2)

I made the game prettier. I wonder if I should make the alien taller so it would be easier to grab onto the swinging vine. I'm not really a Pitfall expert. In fact, I completely totally suck at the game. Also, the game is actually 4k, not 8k as I had posted in yesterday's entry. PM me if you want to play-test the game for me even though I still haven't found a publisher for it. More eyes and hands would be a good thing for this.

i is for "it's error-filled!"

Spent most of the night last night working on Lowercase I. I made a new screen with a wall. But what was bothering me was why in the maze screen did it deduct 11 points sometimes? The answer: The bombs were hitting the health number, and since they're made up of characters as well as the i, it acted as like it hit the i! So I made the bombs disappear higher up so they couldn't hit the health number. Then I went to sleep at about midnight. My eye was hurting. I woke up and it was still hurting. I

Out of ideas

Well, I've done it. I've officially run out of ideas for my next Odyssey 2 game. I don't want to work on the cat game since the original was unfinished and could have been a lot better than its unfinished state. Any of you have any ideas? Preferably I'd like to do something that hasn't been on the Odyssey 2 before. Like a new type of puzzle game. Puzzle games are very underrepresented on the Odyssey 2. I'd like to make a puzzle game, but I don't know what to do. Or anything that's not been done

TGIF!

Thank Goodness It's Friday! Joe Friday, that is. I'm starting a review section for 1950s TV DVD packs. There aren't very many out there, though. This first one you might have guessed is for Dragnet, the '50s version of Cops only with scripts. Found at FYE for only $20, this package from Madacy Entertainment Group contains 5 discs. As you might have guessed from such a little-known company, there are some mistakes. For example, in Disc 1, the fifth episode is actually listed as the first, which m

Why the original Odyssey is cool

I played "Super Mario 3D Land" for about half-an-hour, for what is probably the last time. For you see, I cannot beat 2-4. I tried and tried but I finally just gave up because it's too f***ing hard. Why do modern game developers feel the need to make games impossible? I can understand challenges, but downright impossible difficulty level? And only in level 2? Come on, idiots. That is why I love the Odyssey. No frustratingly hard levels you need to worry about if you can beat them or not. Sometim

TV Guide-style crosswords

I'm a big fan of the old-style TV Guide crosswords, before they stopped using two letter words. I was recently going through some stuff and came upon an issue of TV Guide Crosswords (a whole magazine devoted to TV-related crosswords.) I thought since making crosswords is a hobby of mine, I thought I'd give it a try. So I tried to do a "themed" one, but three out of the four longest answers were the only ones related to my theme I had picked out. I found that this is much more fun than making the

The longest album ever made

In case you're still wondering, I'm still making that. I included in my 90-minute rock opera I made called "Fred the Typewriter." Intended to be on two CDs, I cut out the part about "now is the time to switch to disc 2 to hear the rest of the story" part. So I have 10 hours, 4 minutes and 9 seconds. I'll call it quits at 12 hours, even though these aren't really taking up the whole CD as I intended. I could take up the whole disc by putting in a song that lasts 24 hours, but I don't want to make

Bug bug

So I attempted to fix the stupid problem I was having with Insecticide for the Odyssey 2. I wanted it so that if player 1 picked a bug, player 2 cannot choose player 1's bug. After a few hours and weird workarounds, I think I have finally solved the stupid problem. I checked and I put the game on real hardware and it works okay. It's not the best display in the world, with dark vertical lines on non-black screens, but I can see enough to play stuff. I unplugged my Dreamcast since it is apparent

i comes back

A few days after vowing never to work on anything ever again, I decided to attempt to fix what was wrong once and for all in my Game Gear game. Sadly, it didn't happen and I had to ask for help. But what I did do was return to work on Lowercase I for the Odyssey 2. It had been about a month since I last worked on it, so I was unfamiliar with the code I had made. But I eventually added on to it, making a screen after the H bombing one. I made a big wall that the i needs to get over so he can cont

Lode Runner level 2 is impossible.

Oops. Did someone forget to playtest this game? I got Lode Runner for PS1, and it's the original Lode Runner and sequel on one disc. But apparently they didn't invent playtesting in 1983 since level 2 is impossible. The trouble lies in the southeast corner of the screen. Those gold bars are impossible to get to. I've tried everything and nothing works. Why would they bother even making a level 3 if level 2 is impossible? GameFAQs has no FAQs on this. I tried pressing every button. I read the man

Power Factor

Power Factor is basically a side-scrolling Xybots. You go around shooting stuff, much like Abadox, only you're a guy and it's not forced-scrolling, and it's in a building. Normally, I would say a game like this is a meh, at best, but what saves this game from it is the codes. I can't play games very good (which is why I like puzzle games), so when a game comes along with an invincibility code, especially for the Lynx, I get it. Without it, I can only go as far as level 2 (Yes, I can beat level 1

Mario Kart 7

How do I feel about Mario Kart 7? I guess I'll never know because apparently the game is too f---ing popular and everybody and their mother had to rush out to the store and get a copy on the release day. And of course I had to go at 4:30 to Wal-Mart and try to get one. Yes, Wal-Mart is sold out of Mario Kart 7. There were plenty of copies of Super Mario 3D Land, but god forbid there be any Mario Kart 7 copies there. So I got stuck with reviewing Ridge Racer 3D instead. I wanted to do another 3DS

Fooling around in Photoshop

I like to draw cartoons. Which is too bad because I suck at it. And THAT'S too bad since I have a daily one. http://chrisread.comicgenesis.com Well, anyway, I have been drawing since I was able to hold a crayon. In kindergarten, I still have those journals. I think kids would write in theirs, I would draw pictures. In 1992, when I was 9 years old, I started drawing a comic called "Bill and George." I think the names came from the main candidates of the 1992 presidential race (Bill Clinton and Ge

Word Zap

I saw the Game Boy game Word Zap reviewed in the first issue of Nintendo Power I ever got my hands on. My parents bought it for me because I was looking for a guide to Mario Paint (which I also have.) I didn't think much about it until I saw it at the used video game store. Out of curiosity, I got it. The object of the game is to create words with tiles with letters on them. You get a certain amount of tiles and make either 3, 4 or 5 letter words with them. The tiles are locked in Mahjong Solita

Santa Claus

I put Santa Claus in Nice Ice 2. Unfortunately, the game code is acting up, and I can only put him in if he's a character. So he's the little man icon used in many Odyssey 2 games. I still think there's something wrong with the code since it is very finicky about what I can and can't do. I spent a good several hours (not at once) trying to see what the heck was wrong with it. So now that that's done, what's next is to add collision detection to the characters. I think I have in my head how I'd l

It saved my Jaguar

I admit it, I think the system is cool. But I didn't really enjoy any of the games I had for it, even though I had Tempest 2000. I don't know, I think the game is overrated. I looked it up on AA and it got near a perfect (on average) rating. But I didn't enjoy it. Well, yesterday I got Ruiner Pinball in the mail. I like pinball video games even though I'm not too terribly good at them. Well, anyway, I think having a genre of game I like for a system I like is a definite plus. Apart from that, th

Advance Wars

Advance Wars company: Nintendo Release Date: 9/10/2001 (ironically the day before an actual war broke out) Rating: E for Everyone   OK, I have decided NOT to do X-Men: Reign of Apocalypse (unless I find it locally) because it just costs way too much on eBay.   First off, I'm not really into strategy games or RPGs. This is a combination of the two, and, after learning a little about the game in the two training missions so far, I can't say that this is a bad game. In fact, it is going bett

I'm amazed by the Sega Pico

I just got a Sega Pico. It's a thing for kids. Seeing as how I got a Didj, I figure I might as well get this as well. For a piece of '90s technology, I still am amazed at it. The graphics are Genesis quality, perhaps even better. But seeing has how there's so little room for the chip to be in as it's contained in a book. You plug the book into the Pico. And how does it know when you've turned a page or not? I moved my hand and pretended to turn a page. It didn't turn over. It knows somehow. The

Captain Video came!

For a few years, I have gotten stuff from Alpha Video with no worries or anything about stupid "bugs" as they call them, put on the screen to identify where the video came from. But they marred Captain Video with the stupid things! It's only there though, when the words "CAPTAIN VIDEO" are on the screen. If they made it so you can't rip the DVDs, then why bother putting that stupid bug on there? It's not like you can somehow get the video off the disc and put it onto YouTube or something. And si

Classic NES Series for GBA

I love the idea and wish Nintendo did some more of these. What I was wondering is if it is possible to take NES roms and put them in a homebrew GBA cart. Like for example, say I wanted to play Super Mario Bros. 2 on my GBA. I know that NES emulation on GBA might be a possibility, but I was wanting to make more Classic NES Series titles. I wonder if it's possible to use the emulator on each Classic NES Series cart and make it run other games and then put them onto a GBA cart. I know that you can

Larry the Lemon

So I've been working on the game Black Friday! for the past few days. After finishing it, I discovered that it wasn't very fun to play. One of the first things to do was add a timer. So I did. Next, I needed to make the game fit in 2k. Took me a couple of hours, but I had to change the sprites. As you might have expected, sprites along with individual sprite colors takes up more room than one sprite with one color. So I changed the guy with a shopping cart into the shape of a lemon and colored i

Santa game

I don't want to name the game "Holes" any more. I don't know what to call it. It needs to be no longer than 12 characters if I want the title to be on the title screen. Right now, the title screen says "SANTA". The object of the game is to get Santa's reindeer back from the other side of his magic swimming pool that has ice floes floating in it. I say it's a magic swimming pool because if he touches the left or right sides of it, you'll lose a chance. Poor Santa doesn't know how to swim, so you'

The Legend of Helga

I've got to working on The Legend of Helga again. You've probably forgotten or never heard of it, so here it is in a nutshell. I'm making a Zelda-type game for the Virtual Boy. Way back in 2010 when I first started on it, there wasn't much to it. Now, there still isn't much to it, but there was more than before. Here is what you can do so far: +Walk around. You can walk off the screen. When I get around to it, I'll program stuff in once you walk off the screen. For now, you just walk off it. +
