Colorful Frank

I think I know what I am going to do with Frank the Fruit Fly. Level 1 will be the house. Your job is to guide Frank out of it. Frank starts his journey in the bathroom. Waiting for him at the other side of the bathroom is a spider. What you need to do is get Frank past the spider in order to get out of the bathroom. But why is Frank in the bathroom? I don't know. Ask the moths that appear in mine. I also have a title screen done. I need to add some music for it though. And I also need to a

January 1

I had a fun day. First I attempted to make a new Odyssey 2 game, but it didn't work out. Then at about 4am, I went to sleep because the cat wanted food and was acting crazy. I woke up about 12 hours later. Then I was cold, so I went back to bed. I didn't expect to go to sleep, but I did and woke up 4 hours later. So I spent most of the day asleep. The stupid fireworks ended at about 1am or so. So what do I have to show for myself? All I did today was think up of a Tom Swifty. Mine? "I had to p

Intellivision Ideas

Since GoSub is finished or about to be, I want to start work on another Intellivision game. The only problem is, I don't have any ideas for any! You know what the INTV needs though? More puzzle games. It already has a pinball game. Oh, and going through my collection, which is far from complete though, I see a lack of also platformer games. So perhaps I will make a platform game like Mario only not Mario. As you probably guessed, I have a lot of things I want to do, but no really concrete plan.

Back to the Odyssey 2

So I revisited the Oranges game I made for the Odyssey 2 and made a few changes to it. This inspired me to want to work on a new Odyssey 2 game. There's just one problem: No ideas. I guess that's the problem when you've done so many Odyssey 2 games you could vomit. I have 8 published games, from various publishers. I guess Oranges is a glorified version of my first game Fatso, an attempt to make a version of Fast Food back when I was still trying to get a hang of Odyssey 2 programming. But now

Oldies.com

Every now and then I get a catalog from this company that specializes in old crappy movies like MST3K made fun of. And every so often I buy a few movies from them. Well, now they got me with their Spring DVD Sale. Movies that are $1.98 each. Since I have a short attention span, I try to get movies that are about an hour or so long. This time I got five (for <$10!) Black Gold (1936), Dark Mountain (1944), Last Alarm (1940), Riot Squad (1941) and Romance on the Run (1938). Upon looking up the l

Video capturing programs

I had been wondering how people had been making videos of their games via emulation. So I googled it and found a program. Initially I didn't want to install it because I didn't want their stupid browser that went along with it or any other crap. But then I noticed I could decline. So I declined all their crap and just got the program. I tested it out with the secret government waffle project and am in the process of uploading that first video to YouTube. But they try to trick you into downloadin

Yet more golf.

So I was trying to make a line of trees, like I did with the line of water used to make a stream. Couldn't, even after multiple tries. I was really sleepy all of yesterday because first off I only got a couple hours of sleep due to insomnia, and second, I couldn't sleep when I wanted to on the couch because the dog kept barking at the guy who was washing the house. I don't know why they decided they needed to wash my house, but they did. So after trying to make a line of trees, I FINALLY slept

Switch!

So I went along with Mom to go get a whole bunch more of those Boost drinks she's been drinking. I stopped at the electronics just thinking I would see an empty Switch display, but to my surprise, they had two Switches in! So I bought one and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I probably won't be able to go anywhere this weekend because of the dumb eclipse, so I guess I'll have to be content with MK8D for now. Setup was easy, I disabled the internet connection so hopefully I won't have to get any annoying u

Mario Kart 7 part 2

Well, I went to Wal-Mart and wouldn't you know it: They had several copies. So I got one. You can read my thoughts about the game here: http://www.atari2600land.com/3ds/ under "Mario Kart 7." Is it me or does the 3DS have a very short battery life? I only played it for a few hours before I needed to charge it up again! I was in the middle of my last race unlocking Special Cup when the power light switched from red to flashing red. So I had to pause the game and plug the thing in so I could finis

At least 8 inches and counting. I didn't want to go out there. After attempting to take the dog out a few times, Mom let me try. The dog wanted to wander like always, but impeding her was about a foot of snow, so it was more like jumping in and out of the snow frantically in an attempt to wander. The snow hardened from last time I was out in it, so it was chafing my legs while I was walking the dog in it. But finally we crossed a path we were at and she peed. Boy did she pee. Her last pee was li

the beginning of the end.

With only one hole left to design, I thought I might as well code the end. Since I had a whole bunch of spare room, I added an ending screen which displays your final score. I could even add an ending song if I wanted to. By the way, a final score of one is impossible. I just did that because I started the game on hole 9 for testing. I tried to design a ninth hole, but it ended up too similar to hole #5 so I threw it out and will try again. The ninth hole in there now is a test hole. At t

Mario Kart 64

I first got Mario Kart 64 shortly after it came out (might have even been the first day, I don't remember), and I have been loving it ever since. Mario Kart DS came mighty close to surpassing it, but after a long absence of not playing Mario Kart 64, I thought I'd play it again after losing in Mario Kart Wii. Now I remember why I love Mario Kart 64 so much. No stupid ink covered screens, no stupid first-place shells blowing you up all the time, just good old-fashioned Mario Kart fun the way it w

Pandora's Box #3

Reading the Aries Puzzles website again (http://ariespuzzles.com) and its only feature (so far) is a type of puzzle called a "Rows Garden." It got me inspired to make some more of my own creation, so enjoy. The long-awaited-(by-no-one!) answer to #2 is "lumpbythepresidentsoftheunitedstatesofamerica." This is one I made a few weeks ago but forgot to post. I wonder if anyone even does these. Drop me a line if you do. There will be another one (along with the answer posted for this one) posted tomo

It saved my Jaguar

I admit it, I think the system is cool. But I didn't really enjoy any of the games I had for it, even though I had Tempest 2000. I don't know, I think the game is overrated. I looked it up on AA and it got near a perfect (on average) rating. But I didn't enjoy it. Well, yesterday I got Ruiner Pinball in the mail. I like pinball video games even though I'm not too terribly good at them. Well, anyway, I think having a genre of game I like for a system I like is a definite plus. Apart from that, th

A comic from the future

It's always fascinated me that we have this B.C. comic strip about cave dwellers, but we have no opposite. Well, about a year ago, I rectified this situation and made the first comic strips of "A Future Comic": I put a few weeks' worth of them on my comics webpage and then moved on to something else. Well, the urge to do some comic strips hit me again (my website had been updating every week), so I decided to do a few more "A Future Comic" strips. In case any reader was actually readi

Killer Heads of Lettuce revisited.

I'm working on Killer Heads of Lettuce for the Channel F again. Man this game is hard. So my job is to try and make it easier. I made it so the lettuce heads speed up at 50 points instead of a random speed up/slow down. And even then, getting to 50 points was hard even though the lettuce heads were slow. Though that may be just from me being a poor aim. A few things I had worked on prior to this was making the screen size smaller. I notice when I made Kevin Vs. Tomatoes that part of the score do

My 175-year-old

I was going through my stuff when I saw my 174 year old coin I have. The date on it is 1838. It's a US Large Cent. Got it for about $17 out of a coin magazine ad. This was back in 2007 or so. I checked on eBay and similar coins are going for about $40-50, some even higher. My coin is pretty dirty, but everything is still readable. I think I tried cleaning it once when I first got it (hey, it was only $17, I thought.) No luck. I guess 170-year-old dirt is sticky. The back is better than the front

No sound or no picture?

So I got a Game Gear at the flea market. I tested it out and it had a good picture. I didn't really check the sound. I got home, it doesn't make sound. At all. Not even with headphones. But do you know what? I don't care. I'm just thrilled that I have a Game Gear that I can actually see what is on the screen. My other one had a very dim screen. But this one you can actually adjust the screen brightness. It came with three games (Super Columns, Sonic 2, and X-Men, so no rare games), and a carryin

I'm going to open it!

So I just got a brand new game for the Pokemon Mini I got a few days ago. This is game #3. Game #1 was the Japanese version of Pokemon Party and Game #2 was the English version of Pokemon Party. The person on eBay wanted $40, but I put in an offer for $30 and it got accepted. This third game is the English version of Pokemon Pinball, and I really want to play it. But when it comes, I'm going to have to open the sealed box it came in. I've heard both sides of the argument of whether to open a sea

Odyssey2 cartridge labels

There's been a lot of discussion lately about using Odyssey2 style labels for the US and Videopac-style labels for Europe. I think that starting with Traffic (if it gets released), I'll not do this and instead create my own style labels for both systems. I do have a few games I'm working on. Traffic is being finished while Super Giuseppe Bros. is being worked on. I just completed level 1. Level 2 is being worked on, and I think (if I can successfully program a 4k game) level 3 will be a swimming

Turbografx-16 games

I'm beginning to think getting the TG-16 wasn't such a good idea after all. After getting 5 games I thought I'd be interested in, all of them turned out to be duds. JJ and Jeff and Victory Run came in the mail today. I couldn't beat stage 1 of either of them. The other games I have are Keith Courage, Splatterhouse, and Bonk's Adventure. Nevertheless, I think it's a cool machine. I like the looks (small), the game cards (smaller than a cartridge), and the design of the cart cases. The controller

Dreamcast game thoughts - part 4

I mentioned Walt Disney's Magical Racing Tour in part 1. This game is stupid. How am I supposed to have fun playing it if you're last each and every time? This game is total garbage. It is so not worthy of even wiping your ass with. This is Disney. It's supposed to be for kids. Yet it's so hard even a 31-year-old man cannot complete a single race without being in last place. And I was yelling and carrying on and when I do that the dog comes in and bugs me. I think the game hates me. Oh sure, it

Better.

Well, my last comment about her being better is still good, I hope. She woke up a half-hour ago in the middle of the night, I asked her if she was okay, and she said she was a little bit dizzy, but not suicidal like she was yesterday morning. I don't know whether she can still eat, as it's only 4:40am here. I hope she'll be well enough to go and watch the eclipse six hours from now. Once I know she's good, and once the eclipse is done with, I will go to sleep. Don't have to worry about her tryin

Songwriting

There used to be a local show on the local access channel called "Songwriter's Venue." I guess the guy that hosted it died because it hasn't been on lately. Imagine me getting up on the stage and singing the following:   "You'll never guess what I am for Halloween It's the scariest costume you've ever seen if you see it on Halloween night you will run away in fright I'm Janet Reno for Halloween It's the scariest mask you've ever seen You'll be really terrified I wouldn't be surprised if

Octopus's Garden

Well, just for fun, I thought I'd use "Octopus's Garden" by the Beatles as the title screen music for "GoSub 2". I can't think of anything better that's not written by the Beatles or Disney ("Under the Sea" would also be perfect) or anyone else that would probably demand lots of money for using their song, so I'll probably use another song in place of it if I actually go through with making this game, so for now, bask in the glory of an off-key Atari 2600 rendition of "Octopus's Garden."
