Well, I'm back working on my game "Adventures of the 50-Foot-Tall Stalk of Celery" for the Atari 2600. I'm making level 3 an ice world and right now I've got it looping the first few bars of "Winter Wonderland" (which is not present in version #22.) I also had a fight with going between levels 2-3 (which again is not present in version #22), but I (eventually) resolved it. I wish it could snow like in a Very 2600 Christmas (both in the game AND real-life). I wonder if it's doable by putting ASM
I thought the only DS game released in 2014 was "Lego Friends". Apparently the game is for lonely tween girls. But I went to Wal-Mart and saw another DS game: "Big Hero 6", apparently based on the 2014 movie. I did not know about this game that came out last year. So that makes two. And here I thought the Frozen and the Barbie games in November 2013 were going to be the last DS releases. So the DS lasted 9 years, unless there's an official DS game coming out this year (I doubt it.) This is remin
This marked the third power outage in the last 16 hours. This morning, I just woke up and the power went out. For over an hour. Last night, the power was out for 45 minutes, and then again a few hours later for an hour. It had been close to freezing and raining, so I'm guessing tree limbs falling on power lines, but three of them so close together? I woke up and turned on the gas fireplace and tried to go back to sleep on the couch. I couldn't. The last power outage I played some Virtual Boy, as
Well, I did something I hadn't done in a long time. I saw my DS when trying to look for something else. It had been in a drawer. So I got out New Super Mario Bros. and put it in. I played my DS. First time in a while since getting the 3DS. Not only did I play my DS, I had fun doing so. And in doing so, I've decided to start collecting for it again. I don't know how since I have almost all the major titles, but there's bound to be something I don't have that I would like to play. Like Giana Siste
Went to the used video game store a few hours ago and got the following NES games: Elevator Action, Milon's Secret Castle, Pipe Dream and Zelda 2. I've been wanting Pipe Dream for the NES for a long time now, and I finally got it. First saw it in the store 3 weeks ago and was surprised to find it still there. Well, it's with me now. Finally got a Zelda game, one series that's been eluding my collection. I now have 69 games and 3 complete rows in my box. 23 more NES games and I can fill up the wh
Yeah, I know, there's new games for the DS still coming out, but I'm trying to make a rarity list anyway. If you have any comments on games that should have a different rating, please tell me. Here are the games rated 5 so far (almost impossible to get): Break 'Em All, Bust-A-Move, Dig Dug DS, Elf Bowling, Golden Nugget Casino, Lionel Trains, Whac-A-Mole, and Zoo Keeper. I should add Sudoku Mania to the 5 list, but I haven't yet. Sudoku Gridmaster is relatively easy to get, but it's Mania I want
I've done a lot with Larry the Lemon. I snuck a look at the first version to see what it looked like. It didn't even have a title screen. Somehow not only did I manage to put that in, but made it change colors as well. But I didn't do this alone. AtariAge user "bogax" helped me optimize the code a lot and that helped shrink down the size of it. So I'd like to thank him (if he's still here) for that. Without his help, I wouldn't have gotten this to be as good as it looks now. I tested this latest
Well, this is a treat. Looking for something else, I stumbled across something I had drawn from 1993. I was 10 years old. A page of Sunday Comics. The second one. I knew where the first one was. The first one just had "TO PUT ON SUNDAY" written on it. Put where? I don't remember. There was no internet to put it on. And even if there was, I had no scanner in 1993. Well, anyway, found the second page. This one DID have a date: June 6, 1993. These pages had three comics each: "Bill & George," "
Well, I only have 2 games to do for this time around. I never did get a chance to delve into the South Park game, so it will have to wait until next time. First Re-Volt. I actually got this game to work after a buffering from a different game store. Re-Volt is a remote control car racing game. I remember back when Mario Kart 64 first came out, the people who made it wanted it to feel like an RC car racing game. Re-Volt isn't as fun as Mario Kart 64, and for this reason: Turning. It sucks. Someti
For a while now I've been thinking about Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon for the 3DS. Should I get it? Or just skip it? I wasn't exactly crazy about the GameCube version (I think I traded it in at one point.) But then again, I haven't been exactly playing my 3DS lately. Getting Dark Moon would seem like the perfect excuse to start playing the 3DS again. I think the last time I updated my 3DS reviews page was in January. So, while Fire Emblem and Castlevania aren't types of games I like playing, Dark
What have I been doing since my last blog entry? Nothing much. I did however get/order a couple games. My AtariAge package finally came, and the cheapie $3 thing I got, when put on my Odyssey2, created tons of static, so I just continued using the old switchbox I had, which produces a clear picture! Anyway, an idea I had just hit me. MIDIs. I haven't made one in a while. I figure my last one of a long song I made went well, but I think this one's going to be even better. I'm making a MIDI of The
Viking Child is similar to Rygar, but Rygar is much better as I find Viking Child to be too difficult. It's very hard to time the stabs right, as most of the time, you miss and get run over by an enemy that is moving towards you. Not only is it difficult to play, it's also confusing to navigate. And another thing: All the characters are too small. So, because of all these reasons, I have to give Viking Child a
At first I thought the game was broken because it didn't play. Then I figured out that I had to get a Wii update. I don't know how it did it (it's not connected to the internet because I have no idea how to). I had to do it twice, though because when I finished it the first time i went to the Game channel and it said Wii Update again. I have never come across this before and am wondering why on earth they made it so you have to get updates to the system (the updates are free, so why bother?) Wel
Well, the government decided to resume its secret waffle project. And by "government," I mean me. I could have just gone and worked on the previous version some more, but as I recall, there were some problems with it that we couldn't work out, so I just decided to redo the whole thing. So new tune and new title screen. This is the second attempt at a waffle. The first one looked like a cherry pie. My goal with the "cherry pie" version was to have a two-toned waffle. But the orange-red color didn
When I am away for a time, the computer shuts off and quits being responsive. I have to unplug it and plug it back in and then press the power button for it to come back. And also the Bluetooth capabilities quit working. Why can't people make a non-stupid computer that works all the time like my old one? I tried changing the sleep settings but that didn't help any. It's not fair. I shouldn't have to keep hauling my dumb computer to Best Buy all the time. I think I'll take a sledgehammer to this
Well, now I know that Insecticide will NOT be 4 MBits. I have passed that limit. Well, right now I'm at it, and I've yet to add the special moves of the other characters, which, except for Rumblebee, will require me to update the sprite sheets, which will have extra data, which will probably boost up the size past 4 Mbits. And now I'm having trouble compiling a 8 MBit game. I did what I thought was right, and it displayed my game as 533KB, which is not right. It should either display the size as
Well, it was 9 days late, but I finally got a new 3DS review up. Check out what I think of "Centipede: Infestation" by following this link: http://www.atari2600land.com/3ds/ The way the game is played may surprise you, I can tell you it sure did me. Let's just say it's not Centipede-ish. And on Sunday, I'm going to get Super Mario 3D Land if they have it at Fred Meyer once it opens. Last time we went to the flea market, we stopped at Fred Meyer before, so we usually get there right once it opens
So I've decided to resurrect this portion of the blog. Last time we left it, I was almost done with 1997. There's differing opinions on which games were released when, so I'm going with the most popular opinion. I have the official SNES pdf of released games, which isn't very reliable, Digital Press isn't, either. So I guess combined with the SNES pdf another option is NintendoAge. So here's the other games I need for 1997: Casper (?) Harvest Moon (will not be doing this one. It's too expensive)
I once belonged to the 47 Society http://www.47.net/47society/ which thinks 47 is the quintessential random number. Since I decided to opt out of the mailing list, the number 47 is still my favorite number, and am pleased whenever I find the number on the news, in public, or any other place. So I am proud to start a new category in my blog called "47 sightings." Here's the first entry. It has to do with the TSA scanners at airports:
"'Specifically, to reach annual radiation dose limits, a passe
Pinball Jam is a pinball game with only 2 tables: An Elvira-themed one and a Police-themed one. While it has excellent music and graphics, as well as the standard speech samples (lots of Lynx games seem to have these), one downplay is it has too many colors on screen at once, making it kind of hard to tell where the ball (a white circle) is, which could get lost in the eye candy. Other than that, it's a fairly accurate pinball rendition, and a pretty good one at that. I give this one a . It kind
Dreamcast games. Why are they so expensive? Sure you can get 50 million sports titles on eBay, which is why I search with "-2k" added, so I don't get them. There's another thing. Why make sports titles if nobody wants them? They end up on eBay all the time, for every console there's like 50 million of them. Anyway, I am trying to get a few new Dreamcast games for my collection. Every game I want is at least $20 on eBay. The lowest price on, say, Donald Duck, is $18.88. Really? Why? Mr. Driller i
My phase for video game consoles comes and goes. Now I'm back to wanting a complete N-Gage CIB collection. Ordered MLB Slam off eBay (the e apparently stands for expensive). If all goes well, I'll buy another game from the same company. I don't think I had enough money to combine shipping. But I requested money from my bank account to go into my PayPal account, so I should have enough to buy the second game I wanted once that's done. Three other people I saw payed the same amount I did, but it s
I finally found a Turbo-Grafx game I like. It's Alien Crush. I got this in the mail today and really enjoyed my first time playing it. It's my favorite TG-16 game so far. I got Alien Crush because Devil's Crush was way more expensive. I guess since it's a better game, but I am happy and fine with Alien Crush. I like pinball games, so it's a good fit for me. It is kind of gruesome with all the different weird aliens, but in a way that I like. I bought a golf game for the TG-16, so that's next. An
You'd think the Intellivision would be improved from the Atari 2600 since it was released a year later. But there is still something the 2600 has that the INTV does not: The ability to generate random numbers on a title screen. I was trying to get a fly on the waffle project's title screen to fly in random directions. But I found out that the INTV needs a key press in order to generate random numbers. Oh well, bang goes that idea. Anyway, I worked on the project for the last couple of days on a
Is it me or are video games getting harder and harder with each new console? I can cream the cpu at Mario Kart 64 150cc but always come in dead last in 150cc in Mario Kart Wii. Please tell me what the hell is going on with video games becoming more difficult as time goes on. I wish it would STOP. How do they expect people to beat video games if they make them impossible to beat? Defeats the purpose of even buying them if they're making them too f-ing hard! I thought I was supposed to enjoy video
