George

This is a side project for when I get bored programming GoSub 2. It's a platformer. Level 1 plays like the opening of Super Mario Bros. 2 (where you keep going down). Each level is based on a bodily function. Level 1 is the Mountain of Poop. Once George gets done climbing down the mountain, Level 2 is the Forest of Snot. And Level 3 is the Sea of Pee (imagine a guy swimming in yellow water.) Each level will have around 32 screens to navigate through. Right now, I'm only on screen 3 of level 1. E

Sega Master System

I went to Value Village today. Mom was very kind to me, as she had to drive in a downpour to get there. I had been eyeing the Sega Master System in its original box there for the last two visits, but the price tag (which said $49.99) had been turning me off. Well, I finally got the courage to ask the clerk about it. He took it down off the shelf and let me look through it. Everything was in a bag: light gun, two controllers, the Master System itself. The box had a few rips in it. It even came wi

Nothing.

What a waste of cold air. Not only did it not snow, it didn't even rain! It was just cloudy for the first part of the morning, and now it's about 9:45 am and the sun is actually coming out. Oh well, maybe next time. I'm gonna go to Game Crazy later, and I hope to find something there to buy.

24 hours from now...

...there'd better be snow, or else I am going to be mad. If all this hype about snow brings absolutely nothing to Salem, I doubt I'll ever watch Portland news again. The Natl. Weather Service up in Portland had a special statement about the possibility of snow up and down the Willamette Valley, so even if I see snow, regardless of it sticking or not (it probably won't) I'll be happy. The last time it snowed around here was January 16, 2007; and it didn't stick then, either. I wish it was tomorro

White tomorrow

Well, the Weather Channel changed again, and it might snow tonight (Today into tomorrow). So, it's still potentially a white November 30th, just 24 hours sooner. Yesterday, they had three days lined up on their 7 day forecast of "wintery conditions", but then scaled it back to tomorrow, even though the temperatures are supposed to be the same. Right now, it's 44 degrees, and today's high is supposed to be 43. How does that work? Wouldn't today's high be 44 if it already reached 44 today? The Wea

White November 30th

I'm dreaming of a white...November 30th... just like the ones I used to know...   The Weather Channel says "Rain and Snow Showers" on Friday, so the snow will probably be early Saturday morning. I'll probably be up (like I am right now writing this, it's a little after 3 a.m.) I don't care if it sticks or not, but I want it to, even if it's only just an inch or even less. I'll have to wait until 4:30 to see whether my local Fox and NBC stations say the same thing. ABC and CBS start their loca

GoSub 2 back on track

I've been play-testing the latest GoSub 2 file, and it kind of looks like it's being back on track for a real 2600 release. I haven't talked with Albert about it yet (It's only 1/3 of the way done.), but as long as the lines don't reach 263, I think I'll be safe. I won't make any changes to the engine (unless someone finds a bug in it.), so I'll just be adding more mazes until I have about 100 or so, which is FIVE TIMES more than what the original GoSub had, so this is going to be a long 32k gam

I hate the number 263.

My top secret project is cancelled. After optimizing the code to heck, it still gave me a line count of 263, which means, while it may look OK in Stella and Z26, the screen would be hopping all over the place on a real 2600. I tried the Stella debugger and it gave me 263 scanlines in GoSub 1, and that was released! Maybe I'm just not that fit for programming the 2600. Even if I use batari Basic, the game looks like crap. I'll finish GoSub 2 just for fun, and maybe after that, GoSub 3, but I dou

Thanksgiving Wrap-up

Well, I had a good ol' fashioned Thanksgiving dinner with my family. My sister Stacie, her boyfiend, my niece, Dad, Grandpa and my Mom came. Stacie brought the turkey, and my niece was annoying as usual. I guess that dinner chemical doesn't work on her. Well, anyway, there was stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc. Grandpa even brought a pumpkin pie for desert, but I don't like pumpkin pie (neither does my dad.), so I just let everyone else enjoy theirs.) Well, everything was going well until... They

Sunday Results

Nothing from the flea market. They had a few commons at Value Village, but I had all of them except Star Ship, but I didn't buy it because it was $5! They had a Sega Master System there with box, but it was $50, and didn't come with any games. I think my local Game Crazy has some SMS games, but I felt that $50 was too much for a system made in the NES days, so I didn't buy it. And the same old boxed Intellivision games (NBA Basketball, Sea Battle, etc.) were there, still waiting for someone with

Big Day Tomorrey

Well, I have to drag my mom to the flea market tomorrow. I probably won't find any Atari-related items, but if I do, even if it's remotely connected to Atari, I will buy it. Like the glass part of a Dig Dug arcade machine. I bought it because it had the Atari logo on it. If there is a 5200 or 7800 or something else I don't have, I will buy it, no matter what the cost. Also, we are going to Stinky Town. We call Value Village "Stinky Town" because it smells. Must be all those used clothes or somet

Must have more Lynx stuff!

I'm thinking of ordering Rygar and STUN Runner for my Lynx on Monday. I think STUN Runner looks good (can't play it on emulator, AtariAge doesn't have a ROM for this game for some reason), while I bought Rygar for the NES last weekend and thought I'd give the Lynx version a try. My goal is to get every Lynx games with a rarity 4 and under, then only can I work on the rarer stuff, like Lynx Casino, a game I really really want but it's a rarity 5 and really expensive on various Lynx store sites (a

2 New Lynx Games

What arrived in my mailbox today? Gordo 106 and Viking Child. This raises my total of Lynx games to 30. I think I'll hold back on the ordering of stuff through the mail until the holidays are over. I bet my mail carrier is wondering what are in the packages that keep coming to me, and why do they mention Atari? Anyway, I hope to have many more Lynx games, I'll just wait until almost next year.

N64 High Score Club

This is just a reminder: There is a Nintendo 64 HSC and it's going on now. If you don't have Robotron 64, play it on an emulator. If you like the Nintendo 64, then this is the high score club for you. Don't let PressureCooker2600 be the only one to post in there, get active. The only reason I haven't posted a score is I don't have the game and can't download an N64 emulator with a dial-up modem (that'd take HOURS!) If I can find Robotron 64 at Game Crazy this weekend, I'll buy it and post a scor

Stunner

Q: What's more amazing than the Blazers beating Dallas? A: The Blazers beating Detroit!   Yes, they did it. Now is the time to worry though for Blazers fans. After winning 4 at home, they have another road trip, which could be just as disastrous as the first one. (they went 0-3 to begin the season on the road.) And, they have to play Denver at Denver. Can they win 1 mile above sea level? We'll find out tomorrow. The rest of the road trip they face Philly, Washington, and Charlotte.   now fo

Wind!

They warned us of the upcoming wind storm that was going to come today. And it came today. Our top gust was 48 mph, but near the coast, it was more like 70 mph. A branch fell on our house and the wind blew it off the house down to the ground. Needless to say, it was very noisy this morning. Went to Game Crazy and bought Ms. Pac-Man and Casino Funpak for Game Boy. This now brings me to a total of 556 video games in my whole collection. And the Blazers play Detroit at Portland tomorrow. If they ca

A little upset

I watched the Blazers as they beat Dallas. That was truly amazing. If I had told you Portland would beat Dallas, I'd have said you were crazy. If only they played this good on the road, then they'd be a tough team to beat. It wasn't a big upset (Dallas was 5-1 and Portland was 2-3 coming into last night's game), but I thought Portland was going to lose this one, seeing as how Dallas beat them the last 13 times Portland has played them. And now for the big upset. Ohio State losing. My grandpa is

What I have been doing

For the last few days, mostly nothing. I've ordered a few Lynx games and an Atari 2600 game and since there's not going to be any mail Monday, I'm expecting them on Tuesday. And tomorrow, I'm going to Game Crazy. I usually don't find any new 2600, Lynx or Saturn games there, but there's always something to look at. I wish there was a Game Gear there so I could play the Game Gear games I bought for my Game Gear which doesn't work without the plug-in thing (which I'm now using on my Genesis which

6 Months With the Lynx

Well, it's been six months since I bought the Lynx, and I haven't regretted it for a second. Right now I have 28 games, but I went ahead and ordered 2 more so hopefully I'll have 30 by the first part of next week, if not sooner. So, with 6 months, I got these 28 games:   Baseball Heroes, Batman Returns, Bill & Ted, California Games, Chip's Challenge, Crystal Mines II, Dirty Larry, Gates of Zendocon (ridged), Hockey, Hydra, Ishido, Klax, Kung Food, Ms. Pac-Man, Pinball Jam, Power Factor, Qi

My Most Wanted

After a lull of Atari 2600 collecting activity, I'm starting up again. So here's my most-wanted list:   + Activision Decathlon + Airlock + Oink! + Omega Race + Shark Attack + Strawberry Shortcake   Also, I just ordered a game from AtariAge, so there's at least 1 game in my future.   Also, GoSub 2 will be 32k, filled with around 80 or so mazes. As you could expect, I need some help with designing that many mazes for it. Find out how in the Atari 2600 Basic section.

2 down, 3 to go.

Well, I got two new GBA games today (Nicktoons: Toybots and SpongeBob Atlantis SquarePantis) so that leaves just 3 or 4 more official GBA games until the system dies. There's Barbie: Island Princess, Arctic Tale, Cars: Mater National and Hot Wheels: All Out. I'm not sure if the last one is a game since I've only seen it on Toys R Us's website and nowhere else; and apparently Arctic Tale is out, but not at Best Buy (it's scheduled to come out November 7 there.) I got the two GBA games today not a

DS games I might get

I'm extremely interested in Dementium: The Ward because it's rated M. I think I have every M rated DS title. I'll probably get Phoenix Wright 3, Geometry Wars: Galaxies, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics (it's been delayed to February, though.) and to complete the GBA 2007 library, there's at least 3 more titles I have to get, with a few more on the way before its death. The DS and GBA have been living side by side for at least 2 years now, don't know why they'll stop making GBA games. Oh well,

I'm old!

Today I'm turning a quarter of a century old. That's old once you put it that way. In other words, I'm 25. Well, I will be at 2:52 pm. Anyway, everybody is coming over to my house later for a birthday party. Well, not really a party, more of a birthday visit/open presents/eat cake/kick them out sort of thing. (It's my party and I'll do what I want to.) So in a few hours, I'll go and pick out my cake. And it will be yummy. It'd better be, dad gummit.

Halloween!

My Halloween actually began last night, when the Blazers began losing again. I only got about 4 hours of sleep because I had to wake up early in order to go to the urologist for a what is now annual checkup. The weather was really foggy (It is Halloween.) And then it was off to a very quick stop to the doctor's office to get some more medication. When I got home, I went to sleep and the fog lifted. Oh, and I got into the Halloween candy that we're supposed to give out to the trick-or-treaters to

Very very old literature

I have a very small collection of ancient Greek literature that I hope one day will grow to a whole bookshelf full. I find it fascinating that stories, plays, reports, etc. have survived thousands of years. My collection includes a book of every Aristophanes play, Plato's "Republic", Herodotus' "Histories", and, of course, the Odyssey and the Iliad. I'll have to do some more research on the subject before I can find some more must-haves and anything I run across. Stuff written by guys like Socra
