As amazing as 7-Up is, I decided to get rid of it and it was time for a change. But to what? Why, watermelons, of course. Why watermelons? About a year ago, I started composing a song about watermelons. I quit on November 19. And then I got sidetracked with another musical project. Mind you, I just do these for something to do, just biding my time, waiting until I die. I got about 30 minutes into the watermelon song called "Watermelon Surprise (part 1)" and quit. New Years Day I started what I h
And with it comes my favorite time of the year: Halloween. A long time ago, when it was new, we taped The Nightmare Before Christmas off of pay-per-view. It was one of those services where when a movie came on you wanted, you called before it aired so they could descramble it for you. Right now, I'm converting it to DVD using the VCR-to-DVD converter. I also made another DVD of Halloween specials, so I'll be all set. I'd like to hang the Halloween lights up, but mom says i have to wait until nex
A decent racing game, that is, if you don't choose the "Arcade" mode, with its unfair checkpoints that inevitably make the game prematurely over because there's not enough time between them. It's kind of weird that they would put that mode in, because the other modes don't have it. They have a timer (like in Mario Kart.) I personally like the "Single Race" mode the best. It's one of those games where you might get first on one track, and be dead last on another.
+ Decent graphics. Titus did
Thanks to this program, I can now make CDs of my own music. How, you may ask? I'll record myself playing the keyboard with my MP3 player which records sounds in WAV format. Then, I'll upload the songs to my computer and use Audacity to save them in MP3 format, which then once I'm finished with an album, can burn it onto a CD. I think it's free, but if it's only for a trial period, I'll buy a complete version of it. Just to see if I could, I put an old wav file i had on my computer. Looking aroun
I just got Demon Attack and Elk Attack in the mail today, and with Space Attack on its way, it makes me wonder why I'm attacking demons, elk, and even outer space! I also got Ixion and Frogs & Flies, and with Popeye working again, that ups my total to 123 Atari 2600 games! I know it's not very much in the eyes of most, but I'm catching up. Ixion and Elk Attack are thanks to 8bitclassics, who did a wonderful job. I played Elk Attack on a real console and got well over 70,000 points on the f
I was looking through the special section of last Sunday's paper. Our local newspaper is owned by USA Today for some reason. Sometimes we get these special sections filled with puzzles. I came across these things called "wuzzles." I googled it and sure enough, it is a thing. I think it's a portmanteau for "word puzzles." I mean, how else could you get the name wuzzle? Anyway, a loooong time ago (like when I was a kid), I remember starting this book of some, but I didn't know what they were calle
Hot weather here in Salem for the next few days. Today 88, tomorrow 96. I opened the paper, and in the weather page, it said 100 for tomorrow (though the paper is usually wrong). So now I'm really anxious for tomorrow to get here, just to see how hot it gets. I got the fan out yesterday before all this hot weather. I'll tell you how hot it gets today and tomorrow.
In level 6 of GoSub for VB, I decided to put in lines that appear and disappear, like in the later levels of the 2600 version. Right now, I'm at 6 levels, a title screen, and the engine, and it's still only 256k. I'm thinking by the time it's 1,024k, it could have 15 or more screens, so I can put around 30 in and have it be 2MB. Of course, I could put like 100 in and have it be 8MB, but I don't know if I can design that many levels. Well, to see level 6, check it out here, and I'd love feedback,
I scrapped the minigame and tried (and the keyword here is 'tried') to make the title screen song bear some resemblance to the song "Atlantis" by Donovan. Why not "Yellow Submarine"? Because the submarine wouldn't be yellow if the game was in black & white, now would it? Anyway, what's the legal side of using copyrighted songs? Did XYPE have to pay royalties to the estate of Johnny Cash when they used "Ring of Fire" for its title screen? I'll work on the song more during the weekend, which
She's worse again. She felt better yesterday. The drug Ativan is responsible for her feeling better, but apparently she can't just keep taking it for some reason. Which is a shame. I don't know why though. I also don't know why I have to live with her. I can't keep doing this, and I don't know what to do. There are some moments where I wish she would just die already. And I know she feels the same. It just isn't fair. I mean why does everything that could possibly go wrong DOES go wrong?
I couldn't think of anything else i wanted for christmas, so i said "get me some Aqua Teen Hunger Force DVD sets." Of course, my mom and sister had trouble with the name of the show and can't remember it to save their lives, but I got DVD sets #s 5 and 6 last Christmas. I haven't watched the show all that much, but now since I've watched the DVDs, I'm a fan. Not a huge fan, but fan enough that I want #s 1-4 and I'm going to tape the new episodes next month, the ones that aren't on the Volume 6 D
So I was at the store. I saw a few 7800 titles. I thought to myself "Hey, I have a 7800. Maybe I should get them." So I did. I came home, looked in the garage for my 7800. Finally found it. As it turned out, I already had the three carts I bought. Oh well. But on the upside I do have a working Atari 7800. The power button is a bit sticky though. On the downside, I don't have a 7800 controller for it. So I'm looking for one. Right now I'm using a 2600 controller, but I want to have an official 78
So I went back to the store and said the second copy didn't work. So she let me choose another game since there weren't any other copies left of the one I wanted. I chose Atari Anthology. I think you know why, since it's my username and all. I take it back home and lo and behold, it starts working. I guess it's either Atari charm, third time's the charm, or it hated Namco Museum. I'm just happy it FINALLY started working. I was beginning to think it wasn't going to work at all.
Hey kids, the great Atari god hath blessed upon me 8 new games that I got in the mail which brings my total to 144. And it filled my box up. Now I have to find a new place to keep the new ones I get. In other news, a few "must-get" DS games come out in May, among them the long-awaited "Death Jr. and the Science Fair of Doom." Now, PSP owners won't be the only ones playing Death Jr. So there. Now I have all rarity 2 Atari 2600 games except for 2 (Crossbow & Mega Force. If anyone would help m
Well, I think I broke my Qix cartridge somehow when I hit it out of anger and frustration. I unscrewed the screw in an attempt to open the cart, but I can't get the thing open. So why is there a screw in the first place? I think I must have dislocated something that was keeping the chip in an unmoving position. The chip (game) works, but the cartridge is screwy, so I'm thinking if I can ever get the cart open, move the chip into my non-working copy of Demon Attack. Also, tried to get Frogger to
Inspired by Xuel's blog entry, I decided to try to do anything with this. First, hunting down TurboBasic was a chore since AtariMania didn't have it. After finding it, I put it in my Atari 800 emulator I downloaded. It's called Atari800Win PLus 4.0. I got as far as this:
That's my first program. All it does is clear the screen and displays "THIS SUCKS" on it.
I have too many questions. First off, can I save my program for use as an Atari 8-bit Disk Image? If so, how? Can I use Notepad instea
So I made a game in 10 lines of Turbo Basic. I didn't think it was possible, but I did. I'm just about ready to release it, too, but I had a question about entering the contest, so I'm waiting. What the game basically is is a Zyx remake called "Catch" in which Mr. V catches falling 0s. I still don't know how to put a game onto a disk, after many attempts, I finally was able to make a disk with my game on it that boots up automatically. I think the problem is my computer is a jerk and hates me. I
I was but a baby when it happened. But a few years later around 1990, I got an NES. And then they went all out on my birthday in November 1991 when I got a SNES. And then on my birthday in 1996, I can remember being excited when i opened the big box and found an N64 inside. But back to the mid '80s. Right now in my collection, i'm currently fixated on post-crash titles, especially 1988 and after. Don't know why, maybe it's because i'm fascinated on how short life cycles for the current-gen syste
Here's a YouTube clip of me. Wow, for the first time, hear my voice as I play and explain my love for Juno First. I hope to make this a monthly thing with each month that is, if this first one isn't a disaster (which it probably is.) I learned a few things from making this: #1 - the reflection of my computer can be seen on my TV. I had to record this another time because you could see my screensaver. #2 - I need a new camcorder. Is there a camcorder that works particularly well when recording a
I just woke up an hour ago. It's 3:15pm right now. Before I went to sleep, I was working on the Francis game for the 2600. I worked on it a long time. I had everything like I wanted it to, except for this mysterious white line to the left of the screen. As it turns out, it was the ball. I thought it was the playfield. So I disabled the ball and it works now. So I went to bed at 1am. While laying in bed, I wondered why there was a big black area below the sky, when in Cellar-y Celery there wasn't
The high is ten degrees cooler today, a refreshing 93 I feel sorry for the Volcanoes, who have to play baseball tonight in the hot weather. I've always wondered why major/minor league baseball hold their games in the hottest part of the year. Who wants to play baseball when it's so hot outside? And I feel really sorry for the Arizona Diamondbacks and all their opponents who have to play there. Ugh. Why not hold games in the spring? Starting in March and ending in June or something? Why not just
So, I gave up on Super Giuseppe Bros. and now I'm working on a new game based on the Atari 2600 game "Freeway." I don't know whether to make the game like Freeway where it's timed, or have the game end once you get hit. Either way, I would need to program the collision detection differently, so that's not in the game yet. The game is called "Traffic." See if you like what you see so far, either on the O2EM emulator or, even better, test it on a real hardware for me and see if what I have works s
I was playing Astroshoot and I was thinking that the hit detection between player0 and player1 was off, so I looked at the code and realized that I didn't check for a collision right after player0 moved to the right or left (in essence while player0 was moving left or right into a rock.) So I changed that and added some playfield colors. And yes, I know that there's already an Astrosmash version for the 2600, I just wanted to make something like that.
I'm working on an Astrosmash clone using Batari BASIC. This is just a rough draft I spent about half the day working on. I'll change the background, maybe do some multicolored sprites, hear what other people have to say about it. BTW, I'd like to hear comments on this. Is it too easy? Too hard? Etc. Here ya go.
So I had an idea to put in a tribute to Asteroids in the Celery movie. Why? I wanted something to put in between when Celery hijacks the spaceship and crash-lands on Earth. Something like Celery traveling through space. Then it hit me. The spaceship kind of looks like an Asteroid. So I downloaded the Atari 2600 version of Asteroids (what I wanted to base this on.) It took a while, but I think I finally nailed the look as the triangle shoots at the spaceship as it travels down. All that's missing
