Assessing my drawing skills

I think I've never had the skill or talent to draw very well. Nevertheless, it's been almost two years since one of my first webcomics ("Jessica") has been on the internet. I think now is the time to assess how I've been drawing her and other characters in the strip. And, I think while the general design has been nice and easy to draw, I thought it badly needed to be updated (which will be quite a challenge to draw.) I spent almost ten minutes perfecting the new design. I've added bangs, lighten

ASMart person could get this...

Tried my hand at Atari 2600 assembly. I was just goofing around with it, trying to get sample code to actually not roll on a TV. I got a picture of a celery on the screen. I'm not going to make a new celery movie in ASM, rather I am going to try to port the Odyssey2 game I made about the celery over to the Atari 2600. That picture I made is on the left hand side of the screen, just like the Odyssey2 game. That's what reminded me of it. I hope I can fit it in 2k. Right now, though, I am done with

As the World Stops Turning

I am sooo sick of taping As the World Turns I could vomit. As many of you may or may not know, As the World Turns (or ATWT for short) is ending. The last episode is Friday. And I am happy. I've been taping just about every episode for the last week or so at 1pm sharp. Well, Monday was an exception. Since the US Open had a rain delay, KOIN, our local CBS affiliate, rescheduled it for 1:39am yesterday. But, now the show is in its final week, and once Friday comes, since Salem is full of state work

As the World Spins

Since my 8-year-old niece spent the night here last night, this morning I awoke to find that my mom went to take her back to my sister's house. I went to the bathroom and found some Barbie dolls laying in the bathtub. I spent a few minutes playing with them, putting them in ridiculous, impossible poses, and, (of course), made two Barbies make out. Then, a light bulb came on in my head. Why not film a soap opera with them? So, I took out my camcorder and filmed a few minutes worth of a pilot of a

Call me crazy but I've made the front cover for my album I've made. I found a copy of a CD I had made in 2009 (Hard to believe that was NINE years ago!) It is called "Pretty Pretzels" by a fictional band I made up called "No" (A take on "Yes"). I decided to have No make a comeback album, and this is the one I'm working on. The difference is, all the songs on the 2009 CD are improv pieces on my keyboard, while the one I've just begun are actual pieces with music that anyone can play over and over

Arthur & the Invisibles

Keeping my promise of an Arthur & the Invisibles review soon, here it is in all its glory.   I wish this game was invisible. That way nobody else could play it. The setup is confusing, with B for jumping (in every decent game, it’s A) and the action button is A. (It should be switched around.)   I didn’t expect very much, seeing as how it’s based off a movie, and games based on movies are usually sub-par, and with this one, it didn’t disappoint.   The second level is impossible becaus

Art imitates life.

Take a look at my two most recent comics that will go on my comics website next month. I've been trapped in this horrible life for too long. C'mon. All I want to do is go to my used video game store again. That's all. I've decided to put the cranberry game on hold since I can't get it working right at all on my Virtual Boy. Perhaps I can work on Frank the Fruit Fly again. At least I haven't run into an troubles for that lately. Finally went to sleep at 3 a.m. and got up at

Art imitates life again.

I have this weekly webcomic. It is a lot like the Far Side. I sent it to syndicators but they turned me down. I thought it was pretty funny, I guess they didn't. Anyway, yesterday was a horrible day. My toilets weren't working. This started at about 10 a.m. I had to go down to the clubhouse a couple of times to use their toilets. Someone came to help at about 5 p.m. after we called for help. They fixed it. I was so glad. That little episode inspired this comic, to be posted on my comics website

Art Imitates Life

So, probably none of you read my comic, but anyway, since my grandfather died (and the lengthy conversation about how some people thought i didn't miss him when in fact i do), i've decided to kill Jessica's grandfather off. This week's comic isn't really funny since it introduces the new story line. i mean, how can you make death funny? i tried when maybe i shouldn't have. it's too late now to change it since this sunday's comic is already up. Except for 8/31 and 9/7's comics which talks about s

Army Men Advance

Company: 3DO Release: 6/11/01 - Launch Title Size: 32 Megabits NP's Rating: 3/5 (v. 146 p.117) ESRB Rating: E (mild violence)   This plays like an uber-hard version of Doom. I just don't get how the game expects you to not get hurt when there's three men shooting at you at the same time. I can't complete the first mission because of this fact. And that's on Easy setting. So suffice to say, I don't like the game. The game is basically going around trying to shoot as many tan army men as pos

Arkanoid: Doh It Again

"Arkanoid: Doh It Again"+ Release: October 1997+ Company: Nintendo+ Size: 4 Megabits+ ESRB Rating: K-AA Breakout clone with powerups and enemies, this is a fun little game except for the fact that sometimes you can't make it to the ball in time forcing you to lose a life. Most of the powerups are good, but in order for you to get them, they have to touch the paddle, which isn't fair sometimes because you have to keep the ball in play, which sometimes isn't anywhere near where the powerup falls d

Arise, O great celery!

So the storm came and went. Today there was actually thunder, and on Friday and Saturday some trees fell down, but we didn't lose any power. It wasn't a very big storm, though. The way they were hyping it up you'd expect a hurricane to come through. Well, it didn't. At least not here in Salem. Here it was just your run of the mill storm. A few days ago, I thought to myself, why don't I try working on that celery game I was making in bB where the celery ran around like Mario? So I did. I got frus

Argh.com!

So I buy two games from this seller on eBay. Turns out one of them is the wrong game! (To his defense, though, I did buy the wrong game from him recently.) But still, that's no excuse. So I contacted the seller, and since people are usually asleep at 10pm, I'm probably going to have to wait until morning to see what to do. Shoot, and I was just about to say it was very fast shipping, too. I'm probably going to have to mail the wrong game back, but since he mailed them in bubbleope and they turne

So I forgot about the overlapping sprite situation the Channel F has when sprites overlap. So after adding the flyswatter and having the fly blink a bit, I've decided to give up on the fly swatting game. One thing I haven't given up on though is my long song thing. This is the cover for the album. I think I have a pretty good chance of finishing another 27 minutes of music by April 30. I have 10 already done. This is the picture of the walnut I took. Continuing with the onomotopeia theme I have with these blog titles, I went to the flea market and there were NO Atari games. Not only that, there were no games period, sans a few electronic hand held things. I'm working on a SpongeBob SquarePants game with Batari Basic. It's going to be like a cross between Road Runner and my old Hurdles game. In this level shown here, SpongeBob must jump over the jellyfish, based on the "Nature Pants" episode. There's going to be a second level in which you'

I started to go online to schedule an appointment to get my ID card renewed. I get to the part where I actually begin to schedule an appointment, but I can't because there aren't any available openings in both of my local DMV locations! This is stupid. I think they need to open up a few more locations to better serve the area, but that will never happen because that would mean paying more government workers. And there's no money to pay them with NOW any way. BUT I NEED MY ID CARD because it expi

Just when I finish composing a MIDI of background music to Tic-Tac-Toe 'Ten, I wanted to see how to put MIDIs in Virtual Boy games, so I check Planet Virtual Boy...closed to the public for maintenance/upgrades! It's been like this for all day now! I e-mailed KR155E (the owner) to see if he knew when the site would be back up...no response. He either is too busy to reply to me, or something has gone hideously wrong. I want my Planet Virtual Boy back! I am beginning to have withdrawl symptoms. Too

Mom went back to being whiny and saying she can't do anything again. She can't take a shower because she thinks the hot water heater is broken. I just got out of the shower and I kept the water running and told her to feel it. I don't know what's wrong with her. But I apparently lost 4 pounds since last time I weighed myself, even though the majority of what I ate was fast food and junk food. I am getting so sick of this I don't know what to do. I spend the majority of my day away from her

Argh!

I woke up this morning to mom holding a bottle of pills in her bathroom. Which seems kind of hard since they were in my pocket while I slept. She came in there while I was sleeping just to steal her pills. Well, anyway, she went to the doctor's appointment. She didn't overdose on them (a thing she later regretted.) My sister got me a locked safe with combination to put the pills in. They doubled the dose of the appetite stimulator. Not only that, I had to go to bed with my program not working.

Are missiles really neccessary?

I'm just wondering, do you guys want to shoot stuff while navigating through the mazes? And if so, what? Should I have part of the playfield covering up the treasure and you shoot that away in order to get it? Or how about I use up the player1 sprite and add like the Loch Ness Monster or something? Anyway, I'm still working on this.

Arctic Circle closed!

I wanted to stop at Arctic Circle's Salem location after my visit to the doctor, but found out they had closed it! Anyway, got a blood test, had to poke twice, couldn't get anything out of my right hand, so they got the left. And even then it was slow. But my left hand doesn't hurt. My right one still does a little. I just got home. If I still have high cholesterol, I'll have to start taking a pill for it. Whoopee. You'd think the doctor wouldn't care since he hadn't for all these years. It's li

April fools

It's April Fools' Day, my least-favorite day of the year. The New Dork TImes responded by playing it straight, reporting actual news (albeit old). But the news is ABOUT fools, the fools who tried looking for that airplane that crashed into the Indian Ocean about a month ago. I already put together April 2's news story, so now I just have to wait until tomorrow morning to post it. It's about...well, you'll have to wait. My dad turned 70 today. He celebrated by being incoherent, weak, and wheelcha

April 28, 2021

Last night I worked on my Burgers NES game. I made a fourth level. But I don't know what good the change of scenery is if the game doesn't change at all. I'd like to add more enemies than just milkshakes. I thought nachos would make a good projectile, but what could shoot it? I also think whatever shoots the nachos should have the same colors as the burger because I only have four sprite palettes and I'm using the other three for the milkshakes. I also think that the nachos should be

Apples.

So I finally made a new Boggle Puzzle. I was up all night last night trying to put one together about dog breeds. When I started it was about 10 PM and the next time I looked at the clock it was approaching 3 AM. I never did get the dumb thing completed, I deemed it impossible. So I was looking through a magazine mom left on the coffee table. It had a word find in it. The word find was about foods you can make with apples (it was an October issue). That seemed like an interesting Boggle puzzle w

Apparently impossible

So apparently it's impossible what I want to have happen in my game. Because if it was, it would have happened by now. Because I tried just about every single thing. I've tried just about every sequence. In both files. And what I want to have happen won't. So I'm close to just giving up. Now I know why I gave up the first time. It's just too freaking hard. And I'm also giving up programming in general. Because all it does is just makes me angry and suicidal. Because I can't do it very well. And
