My birthday presents

I celebrated my birthday today (even though it's tomorrow). I got the Scrabble dictionary, Guinness Book of Records 2010, the Bob Dylan Christmas album (which I'm listening to now), some Halloween lights and a skull, and a $20 Borders gift card. I still hope that my package comes tomorrow, so I can get something on my actual birthday.

Expensive hobbies

Geez, collecting DS games is expensive. So i've decided to cut back. The only games I'm going to spend more than $20 on are a.) ones i really want, and b.) super-major releases (like Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars). Right now, I have 121 in my collection, and i've decided that this month i'm going to beef up my DS library. Who knows, maybe ten years down the road, i'll start a DS online store and sell most of these. Anyway, my pdf page of my collection as it stands now is at the bottom of th

Comics

I don't know whether I should just stop with my webcomics altogether. Nobody except my mom seems to be reading them. I think Sunday's (today's) is a little "Garfield"-esque when Garfield sits down and watches TV. And then there's the M-Sat "47 Meatballs", which is kinda hard thinking up new panels for, especially 6 in a week. Nevertheless, since I make them a month in advance, I have daily and Sunday comics queued until January 30. If you want to take a look, here. And I got a popcorn tin for Chr

Coins

The little mixmash of metals that cost more to make than what it's actually worth is getting a makeover. Last year was the end of the penny as we know it. The new penny is appearing this year because 2009 marks the 200th birthday of Lincoln's birth (for those outside the US, Lincoln's head appears on the front of the penny.) You know, sometimes I wonder why the US government still makes pennies, but i think i'd be sad if they quit making them, just for tradition's sake. Just another part of Amer

The Big Project: Day 7

Well, after they said they would return Tuesday, they decided to come back today. Since they're going to replace the carpets in the bathrooms and the kitchen, they tore it out. There was linoleum under it, so they got rid of that, too. These are different people from last time, and I like them because they're getting ready to leave right now instead of after 6pm. They'll come back tomorrow between 7-7:30am. I also got a whole bunch of games in the mail today. Atari 2600 and Intellivision games.

Craig on 26OO

Or should I say...   This is Craig the Cranberry: I'm starting a new project which will (hopefully) be an exercise in learning 4k Atari 2600 program making. But if I fail (I have a knack for it), I'll just make it 2k. I could keep going with the Channel F version, but then I thought the only person who can make Channel F games right now is e5frog, and he's already busy with my Trimerous project. So it's best not interrupt him with this. Besides, Craig won't be finished

The wall

Well, in GoSub development news, I got the wall up for level 1. There is no collision detection yet, as I can't quite seem to understand it yet. Here's a picture of it:   In other news, the appliance repair people came and told us we need a new dishwasher. It had been acting up and hating us, so we called these people to try and fix it and they just said to get a new one. The computer inside our current dishwasher would cost $500 to replace. So any advice on what brand/where to get a new dis

Going To Saturn

Huzzah! I can play my Saturn again! I finally got around to getting the proper cords needed and now I can finally play that game I got from the Goat Store that came because they didn't have a game that I wanted so I had to order another one (how's that for a run-on sentence?) It makes me want more Saturn games, but I'm going to wait until next year because I've been spending too much lately on Game Gear games. Back when it was new, all I had was Nintendo (SNES, N64). Now that I'm older and they'

The Orb and the Nice

Went to the record store. Found a copy of a Nice album in apparently terrific shape. I also found an Orb CD hoping for a long song. I got one. I have never heard of the Orb, and the "music" is very weird. I'm also back working on 2600Tris, and revived the thread in the homebrew forum, so take a look at it. My niece spent the night last night. I stayed up until at least 10:30, something I don't normally do, and watched the Blazers beat the Lakers even with the long list of injuries the Blazers ha

Going banana.

Changed the title of the game to "Going Banana." I wanted the score to appear on the title screen, so I had to reduce the amount of tiles by a lot so I could fit the numbers and alphabet on the title screen. It now looks like this: I also added a third ghost because I thought the game wasn't hard enough with just two ghosts in there. The ghosts are now deadly. What I want to do next is add a few lives for the guy and maybe some in game music and pause function. I don't know, it seems like

Pushing my buttons.

So after a ton worth of more work, I think I finally have the button pushing problem solved in the password screen of Frank the Fruit Fly for the Pokemon Mini. Also, today is my half-birthday. I want cake. I was looking on the Wayback Machine's archives. I looked up atariage.com/forum/. In June 2006, I was doing this blog. I've been doing this blog shortly after I joined and it's been 13 years since I joined. Out of curiosity, I looked up atari2600land.com, my website. There it was, a snapshot o

Alien Greed 3

Remember on the back of the Alien Greed 2 instruction manual where it said "Coming Soon: Alien Greed 3"? Well, soon is kind of soon. After GoSub 2 is released (which will be soon), Alien Greed 3 is next up to be released. This game has been finished for quite some time now, so I don't have to work on it. You can find info and screenshots of this upcoming game here.

My 900th entry!

Since I highly doubt Al is going to release a cart with a name belonging to Nintendo, in the end, I think I'll have to think up a different name for the Kirby game I'm working on (of course, he never did release 'Jack and the Beanstalk'). I was thinking briefly of "Blobby is Going Home", but in the end, decided not to. If Al doesn't want to release it, I'll have either Shawn Sr. or neotokeo release it. Of course, this is a long way away. Development of the game has just started. I'm just thinkin

Three years

It was three years ago that I joined Atari Age. Since then, I've got 198 games thanks to the people on here (thank you!) the rest coming from either Value Village or the used game store. And it'll be four years ago this September that I got my very first 2600. I guess the highlight of my time here is getting GoSub into the AA Store, albeit for a limited time. Well, anyway, I hope to get more games from all you nice people that have been in the scene for way longer than me. And although I have we

Computer file disappearing

I hate my computer, but only because it hates me. Case in point: I went to open a program, but it said it couldn't be opened because some stupid file was missing. So, I reset the computer, thinking that would do it, but no, I got the same message. So, I put in the disc that I first used to install it but it said that it was already installed (so it couldn't do it again.) So, I went to the Control Panel and deleted the stupid program, which took about 10 minutes. Then, I put in the CD again and i

Delays malaise

I have a comics website that I basically update every week with new comics. I do these comics and put them on the FTP server about a month in advance. I drew one about the analog to digital TV switch. A few weeks after I drew it and put it up, they delayed it until June. So this week there's an outdated comic on my webpage. Makes me mad that they delayed it because now i'll look like a moron. oh well, hardly anyone looks at it anyway, I've had a little over 100 hits this month so far on it last

Fun with YouTube

I have a YouTube account. After using it for a year, I just now noticed that there is a message system on it. I had not noticed before that on the top it says "1 new message" (or however messages there are). Guess i'm not very observant when it comes to website stuff. Well, anyway, YouTube is fun, especially when it comes to old stuff people find on their old tapes and decide to put up on YouTube for all to see. The guys who invented it probably didn't figure that to be the purpose of it (the pu

To-Nights

Went to Wal-Mart today to get some more computer paper and saw Nights: Journey Into Dreams for Nintendo Wii for $10 and decided to buy it. Heck, it was only $10. So I'll have something new to play for the Wii tonight (once Mom goes to sleep...) and my grand total of Wii games is...5 (if you count Wii Sports.) I'd like to get Klonoa and Wario Land: Shake It, but the $50 price tag for Wario seems like a bit too much. Why does it have to be so expensive, it's not like it's a Mario game or anything.

One A.D.

The year was 1995 A.D. (which seems kind of strange given the title of this entry.) I was in 6th grade, the last year where 6th grade meant being in elementary school (the next year, the school district moved 6th grade to middle, or jr. high, school.) My teacher was Mrs. Lennon. I think it was near the end of the school year because this project didn't make any real sense. She gave us a whole bunch of construction paper and put in this ambient CD and told us to make our "visual" of the music pla

I downloaded a long song

For my collection. The song is called "The Harvest" by Brighteye Brison. I've never heard of them before. The song is 20:27 long. I guess this is the wave of the future: downloading long songs instead of going to a record store and buying them. I am going to a record store tomorrow to see if i can find any more long songs. There's probably tons, but I need to know artist and album names before I can find them. I have a few I'm looking for, though. So I'll see if I can find any.

One After 909

I think the title is fitting seeing as how this is my 910th blog entry. Went to the record store today. I got a Procol Harum LP ("Something Magic") and right now I'm listening to "Green Desert" by Tangerine Dream. "Something Magic" has "The Worm & the Tree", which clocks in at 18:35 (so says the label on side 2.) while "Green Desert" is 19:29. So, two more long songs for my collection. My website doesn't have my long songs on LPs on them, I think I should add them up there. So all in all, a

Man trapped in brick room (part 2)

After hours and hours of programming, I finally got things the way I wanted in the game. It took an extremely long time to make it so the guy doesn't keep the walking animation going when he hits a wall. I had to make lines and lines of code for him to keep doing the walking animation when he hits the wall and moves along it. So now my code is 505 lines long. And yet I still have 6000-7FFF to fill up. A lot of space, which is good, because all I did gameplay wise was make the guy able to get the

Records I want

Right now I'm listening to Procol Harum's "The Worm & The Tree". I've got back into my record-wanting groove (no pun intended). I figure these will probably be the easiest to find. There's this record store on Commercial right after the library called Harvest Records, and the owner is there, a weird-yet-very-polite guy named Brian, every time I go there and buy something, he always says "If you take it home and don't like it, birng it back and I'll give you 100% store credit." During the his

My music

I've included a piece i played on my keyboard. The song is from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins for Game Boy. I'm going to do a whole album of songs from video games (if I can think of that many I can play.) Right now, it's in WAV format. I can make this as an MP3, but then the file size would be 5x what it is now. I don't know why MP3 caught on as *the* format for music listening when WAV files are much smaller and easier to handle. Oh well, anyway, about two-thirds into it, I make a mistake

My games

First up: GoSub 2 will be published, just not by AtariAge. Neotokeo will be handling this, along with Alien Greed 3. Also, I'm pretty confident Terrance & Phillip will be done by the holiday season. Shawn Sr. will publish that one. So, to put it mildly, I've been quite busy. By the way, a new version (#44) is up in the bB forum.)
