2 B's or not 2 B's?

Went to Game Crazy earlier today. Not much there this time, but I did get Jurassic Park (B), and Palamedes (B+) according to Mike Etler's NES rarity list. Jurassic Park was made in 1993, and I really like NES games made after 1992 for some reason. 2 Zoda's Revenge (early 1994) was still sitting on the shelf, both still priced $6.99. Want to get rid of them? Sell them at $2.99 like all the other cheap NES games. And is Chubby Cherub really worth $4.99? Geez. Here's the thing about these stores th

I have a cold

But that didn't stop me from going to Game Crazy. Have any of you had this happen? You buy a few games because you think you don't have them and you take them home only to find you do have them after all? Luckilly I only spent $3 for 3 of them. 1 doesn't work but I haven't cleaned it yet. Well, anyway, I submitted Virtual Dieter to the 2008 Minigame Compo. And I'm going to get me some Carl's Jr. food (Hardee's on the east coast), because my mom is going to go visit her dad and then come home and

Cold Goings

Well, from what I've heard everywhere is expect snow down to the valley floor (which means for me) on Sunday, with highs and lows near freezing. Probably not very much, though, but there could be a rain/snow mix as early as tonight. Because of that, I won't be able to go to the flea market which is on Sunday (I don't know why they can't have it on Saturday.), but I will be able to go to the South Salem Game Crazy tomorrow (that is, if the forecast holds up.) I'm looking for more black Tengen NES

Fun with a Flash Boy

So I finally discovered a quirk with my computer (this marks the one billionth!) The thing does not like the Dev Mode. It now works just fine in the "regular" mode. And another thing: I got rid of the "Insect Combat!" voice at the beginning and the music started playing! I know a little about why that happened, what I don't know is why it was working fine on the Mednafen emulator. And, Richard, the file you gave me does not want to open with 7-Zip. I downloaded a Flash Boy program on Planet Virt

Those darn jackdaws...

I wrote a song called "Jackdaws Love My Big Sphinx of Quartz." Most of the music I make I record for myself to enjoy (god forbid anyone hear "The Most Disgusting Song Ever Made...") but I have decided to share this little bit of wisdom with you, and I plan to make a whole album of stuff like this. It took a few nights of recording to come up with this, and I'm still not really pleased with the finished take (a couple of noises in the background, maybe someone could take those out or tell me some

More Didj stuff

After obtaining a complete collection (yes, I even bought the Hannah Montana game. It was in a lot, so I didn't feel as awkward), you'd think there would be nothing left to get. Wrong. I just bought an AC adapter so I don't have to use batteries. Although the hole in the Didj itself says DC instead of AC, but it said it worked for Didjs as well as Leapsters. And there's also a Didj charging station, but that was $30, so I went the more thrifty route and I'm not a completist when it comes to hard

Ending song in Oranges

So I was working on the ending song for Oranges. It wasn't playing right. Instead of playing at all, I kept getting this stupid icky white noise-sounding noise. Finally I said to myself, "Well, what does and has been proven to work in my game?" So I borrowed my own code, modified it for the end, and stuck it in there. Worked fine. I've decided to lower the goal from 10,000 down to 1,000. In case you go over 1,000, the game stops you and sets your score at 1,000, so that's the highest score you c

Back to the Game Gear

The Game Gear bug bit me. I worked on my Oranges game for the Game Gear last night and tonight. I was able to add a fork and change Bob's shirt color via changing the palette. Sometime soon I need to get motivated to make a website for the Oranges game for Game Gear. The fork has to be really long because I made the syrup bottle the same size and the collision detection would be all screwy if I made the fork 8x8. I tried. I also bought Alien 3 for the Game Gear off of eBay to add to my collectio

Uneven ground

I went and worked on my Channel F game again this morning. Today's goal was to make the lettuce heads shootable. This required more time than usual. Once I thought I had it, but then realized that just because I made the bullet blue didn't necessarily mean it was off the screen. So more work had to be done. At one point, the ground was uneven. It had a grassy feel to it. Odd because I didn't do anything to make that happen. I figured it might be because I was using too much code. Eventually th

Keep it simple

So I had some long convoluted code in order to keep the bits in $d010 under control. Then it occurred to me that I could probably just turn the bits on and off instead of changing the whole value at once. One Google search later led me to how to do this. I added the vegetable in, a lovely piece of broccoli. Thus leading me to only have 34 lines of code expanded instead of a lot more. My day began at 6am. While sleeping, I figured that Nine Inch Nails is never going to release a follow-up to the

New title screen

I changed the title screen of Frank the Fruit Fly. I explained you can press the B button to put in a password (passnumber?) or press A to start anew. I also made the title screen song a little longer (it's now about 25 seconds long.) So the picture to the left is what I have for a title screen. And now I'm bored. What do you think about the new title screen?

That's the title of my next "album." So I don't get totally bored, I used to make up songs and sing them on a tape recorder. I did two albums in 2002, and I thought I'd do one since I haven't in 5 years, and it took about 10 months to finish this one. If you thought the parody "There's a kind of flush" was bad, then you definitely don't want to hear this one. Some of the more interesting titles of the songs I've sung/instrumentals include:   Fun With Salt Atomic Feast Samanaranarapeli Notor

The downside of a big collection

...in case you have to move! I only got A-I of my Atari 2600 collection moved yesterday. Tomorrow, I'm gonna go back and get J-Z. I'll probably have to put it in 2 boxes, but I hope to have all my 2600 collection at my new home tomorrow. I got 3 games in the mail the past 2 days (Coconuts, Gangster Alley and BMX Airmaster), so that brings my total to 223. Since I don't have to move my TV and my 2600 console (I did that yesterday), I think I can get the rest in one trip. And then, sometime else,

High Heat MLB 2002

I am not a big fan of baseball. I expected to go through this for a minute or two before saying "It sucks" and never playing again. Well, that is true, but not for the reason I had expected: Three batters later in the top of the first inning, I was down 3-0. That's right, a home run each and every time for the computer. (If only the Mariners were that good in real life!) I knew then that this was exactly like the Game Boy Baseball debacle I had earlier. Why isn't there a FAIR baseball game for a

Another 3DS review (10/27/11)

Well, I couldn't wait until next Monday. I put up another 3DS review. This one is of Tetris: Axis, and it's a follow up to Monday's review of Bust-A-Move Universe. You can find it, along with all future reviews here: http://www.atari2600land.com/3ds/ I love this machine, it's too bad there's not any wonderful games for it yet. I'm also amped up for the return of Beavis & Butthead tonight at 10. By the time I just got into it, the final episode was airing. I plan to tape this and all other B&

Channel F

So I went to the game store after my hair cut and I walk out with a boxed Fairchild Channel F. It's a System II. I don't know what that means exactly, but I never saw one anyway, so I bought it. Hooking it up was easy, but I discovered that the game is selecting #2 automatically. I tried to unscrew the system, but only saw two screws. I unscrewed them but the thing didn't want to come apart. Hidden screws? Well, at least I have this thing. I can select different games if I act quickly, but the G

Finish Mr. Ultra 2

So I thought I'd go ahead and finish Mr. Ultra 2 since I got a message on the SMS Power forums saying I can make a 48k game without bankswitching. I was up to 32k and thought that was the biggest game I could make. So I put in a level 6. What I plan to do is add a simple seventh level. Why simple? Because it needs to be in order to fit into 48k. Even with the ending already in the game, I still only have a tiny bit of room left. So after the seventh level, all I'd need to do is make the levels a

Orange testing

So I was being absent-minded again. Yesterday I mentioned that there was a big windstorm which could knock out power. I just today realized I could have played it on my GBA or GBC. Well, not my GBC because the battery is getting low. But I saw my GBA laying on the desk and I said "Why not test Oranges on that?" So I loaded up the game. I just today realized after 5 months of owning it that my GB Everdrive has a light on it. I don't see why that's necessary, but whatever. I played Oranges. It too

Wavy lettuce

It took me a few hours but I made it so the lettuce moves up and down in a sinus wave. I did it but then the rocket stopped working so I had to work on making it work again, which took more extra time. I think I'm using too much code though. Perhaps that's the reason why the ground was uneven and looked like it was grass. But it's a good look though, so if it happens again I may keep it. Then out of curiosity I wanted to know if the score would work if someone got 100 points or more. It took m

No more Upmonster updates for today.

Well, I got really far on the Upmonster game. Most of today was spent on the 2-player version, while on Sunday, I just started on the game. I kept on updating and posting, and it looks like I've spammed the Intv forums with my Upmonster updates. So I'm calling it quits for today on working on Upmonster. Work will resume tomorrow. I can't help it, I just enjoy adding little feature after little feature and pretty soon I've got a different version of the game with new stuff added in. Or, in the ca

Ow, that ringing!

I've had it with the constant ringing noise, so I put in an option at the title screen. If you don't want it, press Up at the title screen. If you pressed up and decide you want it back again, press Down. Simple, huh?

DS Rarity list updated

I've updated the DS Rarity list again. Put a few more 5s on: Pac N Roll, Sudoku Mania and Trioncube. Here are the places I've looked for Trioncube and never found it: Toys 'R Us, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, GameStop, Electronics Botique, Sam Goody. And if you can't find a game there, well, geez. I bought some of what I think are rare games at K-Mart and Sam Goody (I got Dig Dug DS at Sam Goody and Lionel Trains at K-Mart, two games I've never seen anywhere else), but no Trioncube. Project time.

I'm in the process of burning my Beck CDs to the computer in case I get an iPod. I have 8 albums and 2 singles left, so I'm guessing it'll take about half an hour to do all those. By the way, the Volcanoes have been winning, 7-1 on Tuesday, 4-1 on Wednesday and 7-1 yesterday. They just started playing tonight. And it's going to be worse, the Weather Channel now says 99 on Tuesday and 101 on Wednesday, and the local news stations say all say mid-90's both days, so I don't know what to expect. So

Contests!

I called "Virtual Dieter" done and entered it in the 2008 Minigame Compo. I think it's a pretty neat game and I want it on a cart. But there's one problem: It has no label. That's where you come in. If you design a label that I like enough, you can win! Win what, you might ask? Either a copy of the game, or $25 in cold hard cash that you can spend at the AA Store (or anywhere else, for that matter, but why would you? ) The cash is coming out of my own pocket. This contest ends Monday, March 31.
