Another hot one

Well, today was another hot day. I'm looking forward to Tuesday and Wednesday, where the highs will supposedly not reach 60. I'm not sure what the high was today. Last time I was awake, it was 89, although that was around 3pm. You see, if you fall asleep when it's hot, you won't feel hot. I guess that's the strategy of our dog and cat, as most of the day they look like they're dead. My cat is 15 years old, so I wake her up occassionally to see if she's still alive. In the morning when it wasn't

Another DS game to come out

Well, this one had been listed as Q4 2013, but it finally got a new release date. Doodle Jump Journey will be released...this Tuesday. Apparently the company that makes it wanted it to be a secret or something. If the game had gone gold, why not pick a release date and then TELL everyone about it? Anyway, I guess I'll have to go back to Toys R Us next weekend to see if I can find that as well as Lego Marvel Superheroes. Toys R Us seems to be the only place to get new DS games any more. Of course

Another boring Saturday

Bored. Decided to work on making another crossword puzzle. I spent about an hour on this. It's half done. I'll do the other half next time I get extremely bored. Got the mail. I got a Game Gear game. I put it in. Didn't work a few times, but then it started working. Must have been not played recently. I tried cleaning it, but there wasn't much dirt to begin with. It irks me that some people don't take the time to clean their games before shipping them. I mean all you need is some rubbing alcohol

Another 3DS review (10/27/11)

Well, I couldn't wait until next Monday. I put up another 3DS review. This one is of Tetris: Axis, and it's a follow up to Monday's review of Bust-A-Move Universe. You can find it, along with all future reviews here: http://www.atari2600land.com/3ds/ I love this machine, it's too bad there's not any wonderful games for it yet. I'm also amped up for the return of Beavis & Butthead tonight at 10. By the time I just got into it, the final episode was airing. I plan to tape this and all other B&

Another 2k game

Well, I made a game using 2k. Barely. I have 4 bytes left. I plan to put this game in the 2008 Minigame Compo, that is, if there is one. This one is called "Virtual Dieter." I tried making this game very early on in my batari Basic programming, but this one is a lot better. It's kind of like a reverse Fast Food in which you dodge the food instead of eating it. If you touch the food, your stomach grows bigger. The game ends when your stomach reaches the other edge of the screen.

Annoying feature.

Remember when you put in the Virtual Boy game, it gives you a screen to adjust the thing? I put that in. Remember the pause feature you most likely turned off where it paused play after 15 minutes? I put that in too. Just finished testing that, and after about 15 minutes, a message came on saying "take a break." To resume play when you get the message, press Start. It's that easy. And, you can turn it off too. This was hard to do, but now I can continue working on the main

Annoying dog

Followers of my blog may have read that my dog is sick. Now it's gotten worse. The poor thing can't walk any more. And mom refuses to put him out of his misery. It's not that I'd be happy that the dog would be dead, I'd be happy because he'd no longer be suffering. Mom can't realize that my dog needs to be euthanized. Right now he's laying in my room panting as I type this. Mom has been taking the dog to the vet a lot lately but the one thing that keeps angering me is that she comes home with th

Announcing GoSub 2 for the Odyssey 2

I've begun work on GoSub 2 for the Odyssey 2. Nothing playable quite yet. I finished the title screen. I also discovered my Odyssey 2 can't play the explosion sound any more. I don't know why. I tried programming it into GoSub 2 and it wouldn't play on my Odyssey 2. So I changed it to the tune select backwards and it played. Weird. Anyway, I need to keep up my Odyssey 2 programming skills while I still know them and haven't forgotten them yet. Odyssey 2 assembly is a hard beast to tame, and a ha

Announcing a new ActionMax Homebrew game!

I've decided that Nightmare Nemesis had too much similarities to Pops Ghostly, so I decided to start on a new ActionMax game. So I thought for awhile and an idea came to me: A holiday game. Santa and his reindeer. Never mind the Bubba's Buck Blastin' game where you shoot at deer, this is Santa's reindeer we're talking about. Turns out the reindeer got fleas! Your job is to shoot the fleas off of Santa's reindeer. Why this idea? Because the name I thought up for it: "Fleas Navidad." So I woke up

Angry Birds

Well, I guess I'm late to the party. I just bought Angry Birds Trilogy for the 3DS. Haven't played it yet. I've never played Angry Birds before so I don't know what kind of an experience I'm in for. I know it must be something interesting because I see Angry Birds merchandise everywhere I go. I've been kind of in a 3DS drought lately. The only thing I used it for recently was to access the Internet while I was at the beach. That and the only other game I see that I'd be interested in is Crosswor

Anger-inducing software

I hereby declare that all software ever made after this point MUST be tested by someone OUTSIDE the project, whether it be ME or anyone else. Case in point: the ANGER-INDUCING video editing software I'm using to make my ActionMax homebrew is user-unfriendly. In fact it's downright user-mean. Nothing is what it seems, and damned if I can figure out how to cut out part of a video. I tried various things, and it is VERY ANGER-INDUCING. But somehow I struggled to make the little black & white th

Anger-inducing collisions

So I spent the better part of my waking hours today trying to put words in the GG game. Letters didn't really want to work, so I put phrases in instead. But somewhere along the line, I broke collisions. It started detecting what I thought were false collisions. But while playing on the Everdrive, I saw something I didn't see with Emulicious: an extra rogue 8x8 strawberry milkshake sprite part pops up for a fraction of a second sometimes right after the sprite goes away when you shoot it. Anger-Inducing Bugs

So I have been working on Insecticide again. My monthly workathon, lol. Yesterday I thought I had it all figured out. And then when I went to play test it for the final time last night, I saw lots of stupid errors I had done. Well, I worked some more today and I don't know what I did, but I fixed most of them. Total time working so far this month: about 7 hours. It gets me so angry, though. It's getting to be the more I put in the game, the more it gets screwed up. Bugs permitting, I think I may

Anger and making games

Out of all the systems I work on, I think the Odyssey 2 knows how to rile me up the best. Worked some more on Super Giuseppe!, trying to make the stupid numbers not flicker at all. Most of the time, they flickered only when he was jumping, but I think I fixed it. Went through two runs of the level without it doing anything horrible. I think I made it look even better than it was looking on October 15. I've added a little path for him to walk down. I've also made the sky lighter because in order

And they keep coming...

Turns out that SpongeBob won't be the last DS game after all. As for games with SOLID release dates, this honor now goes to Disney's Frozen (ign's page: http://www.ign.com/games/frozen-olafs-quest/nds-20006333) It looks to be a platform game based on the upcoming movie about a snowman or something. I have never heard of the Frozen movie before, so excuse me if I don't go to movie theaters any more and there have been Frozen previews running for years now. Anyway, I couldn't find Cloudy With A Ch

And 8MB does what, exactly?

So I got a few PS2 games to try out at the store. One is Namco Museum. The other is a SpongeBob game. I was looking for something I could beat easily since I suck at video games. Looking at the back of the box, it says it needs 8MB of memory to save. Really? Why would a SpongeBob game need 8 MB? The rest of the games' save states are in KB, but 8 MB? Really? Anyway, the whole family got together for my birthday. I got a whole bunch of stuff I wanted, most of it pumpkins for my pumpkin collection

Ancient Aliens season 2

It begins at 10pm tonight. And I want to tape every episode this season so I don't have to buy a boxed set. I'm going to have to try to find season 1 somewhere. Anyway, it's really a fascinating show, and brings up some interesting questions which may invalidate the beliefs of every religion on Earth (which I don't want to get into.) Basically, if you're unaware of the ancient astronaut theory (which i was before I watched this), they believe that aliens have visited us in ancient times, which w

Ancient Aliens

Has anyone else watched this History Channel show? It's about the theory that aliens landed on earth a long time ago and helped build Stonehenge, the pyramids of Giza, etc. It's got me convinced. In fact, I wanted to watch the newest episode which was on at 8pm, but I fell asleep. Luckily, there's a repeat of it Saturday @ 8pm. So by now you assume (correctly) that I believe in aliens. The proof that aliens exist is here on earth, like I said, with Stonehenge and the pyramids, and ancient Peruvi

Analog TV was better than Digital TV

Just another rant about the forced switch over to digital TV and how I have to live with subpar television. I know it was years ago, but I WANT ANALOG TV BACK! I highly doubt that the channels the FCC claimed were needed for stuff other than TV are being utilized in any way, anyway. With my stupid indoor antenna, it has to be just right or else I get black squares and no sound and even when it is perfect, the sound drops out some time. Instead of getting "NO SIGNAL", I actually got a snowy pictu

analog tv > digital tv

I hope the government doesn't find this blog post. They're the ones who forced us to go digital. Why couldn't we have a choice? They're the ones who say frequent audio and video disruptions are better and LESS annoying than constant audio and video but with a fuzzy picture. Assholes. I remember the days of analog TV (it's kind of hard to forget a few years ago) when these stupid interruptions didn't happen, and TV was way better without it. Now these idiots come in and say "Even though the TV yo

An Odyssey 2 song

I wanted to make a song on the Odyssey 2 for Fatso 2's title screen. I woke up at about 12am and at 6am I was finished with it. I kept having a problem where it kept spitting out a's instead of moving along with the letters that the mouth eats that spells out "fatso 2." I still don't know why it played okay on O2EM and not on real hardware. But I got it working now. The non-working version was past 512 bytes, while the one that works was under 512 bytes. Knowing how crazy this stuff is, I bet th

An odd use for Crisco

My sister had these rashes, until her skin doctor suggested she put Crisco on them, and lo and behold it worked. So I have rashes worse than hers. I've had them for some number of years now (which I don't know why, I mean I haven't been scratching them or anything.) So my mom got me some Crisco to try. And I can see a difference only after putting it on once a day for two days. I mean the rash isn't completely gone, but it is better. So I have to remember to keep on putting Crisco on it every da

An interesting thing about Lakitu

I was playing Super Mario Bros. on my NES. When I got to level 6-3, I killed Lakitu and jumped up and died. I thought I had discovered a glitch. As it turned out, it wasn't, but I did learn something about Lakitu's movement. If you get a power-up while Lakitu is on screen, he automatically begins to throw a spiny shell, which can make Lakitu flash if the game doesn't "expect" it. He breaks from his usual shell throwing pattern when you get a power-up is what I'm saying. This is most noticeable o

An idea for Goshzilla

I couldn't get to sleep last night. I finally did at 4 or so this morning and had to wake up at 8:30 so I only got 4.5 hours of sleep. While I was laying in bed, I thought about what I could do to make Goshzilla an actual game. At 2 a.m. I had enough and went back to work on it. A few hours later I had a working 6 digit score. I also figured out something: The only time the high score needs to be updated is if someone beats it. Therefore, it can remain on there without me having to constantly up

An idea

Possibly. While playing around with Odyssey 2 programming, I might have stumbled on an idea. Although it might just be nothing and me goofing around. It took at least a few hours, but at least the intro is done. But I'll keep it secret for now. In the past, I've always shared my projects and how they progress. This is because I hate keeping secrets. That's not to say I can't keep one, I just don't like to. I want everyone to know everything all the time. But this is a secret project. (For the ne
