Dinner is served! After a little over two months after starting the project, I am happy to say that yesterday morning (Christmas), I took a little time and finished the game, and it's now in the bug testing phase. If you would like to help and have a Virtual Boy and FlashBoy or HF32 (or just have Mednafen), PM me and I'll give you the latest file. I won't be sharing it with everyone, so you'll have to promise you do the same. When I get some time, I'll try it out on my Virtual Boy and see if it
I don't know why, but I've become sleepier and sleepier. I slept a lot yesterday and wasn't awake very much. I went to sleep at, I don't know, around 3 a.m. and woke up at 7 p.m. Well, anyway, when I was up tonight, I figured I might as well draw something. I have a lot of fun drawing stuff. None of it is particularly any good, but I still have fun thinking of ideas and then drawing them. But I have a tendency to use really old-timey stuff. The TVs have rabbit ear antennas on them. That is to ma
The heat has gotten to me. It went inside my brain and completely fried it. So, why is there nothing but sex on TV? And why is it so hot? It's 10pm here and 86 degrees outside. Why? It probably didn't get to 100 today, but it sure felt like it. And not only that, it rained! And not just a little bit. A little more than a little bit. And I managed to make a multicart of Ants and Star Box, even though nobody has replied to most of my games I post on the Atari 2600 Basic forums. Why? Is it because
So I'm making this font called "Boxville." I have pretty much all the letters figured out except for X. What I wanted X to be was an open box (O is a closed box.) But I can't seem to figure out how to draw an open box, especially with this screwed-up font making program I'm using. I've attached what I have so far (this took about 90 minutes to do), but you'll notice the capital X and the lowercase X are off (uppercase and lowercase are the same), while the O is fine. (well not perfect, but fine.
...especially shows that aired on the ill-fated Du Mont network. I'm interested in this, which could be the only thing even remotely related to the Du Mont network: Some "Life Is Worth Living" DVD sets available from the Catholic Store. I'm not a religious person, but am just interested in trying to get programs aired on the Du Mont network! "Life Is Worth Living" aired on Du Mont from 1952-55. I wonder if these are actually episodes, or just parts of episodes intermixed with religious stuff.
Back in 2012, I started making Chris's Journal of Wonder, a sequel of sorts to the "journal" I did in kindergarten class. While everyone else was writing about what they learned or something, I drew really interesting and weird cartoons. The Blazers were doing well, one was about "Go Blazers!", and another one was about how the Liberty Bell got its crack (blame the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.) Flipping through the pages in 2012, I started to do another one. As usual, I do it for about 3 or 4 d
With the power outages hopefully done with for now, I have resumed work on the second issue of Nintendo Stuff. I will put issue 1 out to the public on December 1. It has reviews of Superman 64 and Bust a Move 99. Most of the games I've been reviewing are for the N64. It's the system that I grew up with. I was 14 when the thing debuted and so it involved most of my video game playing when I was a teenager. But it's funny how I got older, the video game consoles I play have gotten older too. But u
Who knew the code for changing the snake's color would be in the score code? Since I don't have a score, it wasn't making the color right, and the default color was green. So that was the key to it. I'm guessing though I can't have a green background. I thought I had a green background earlier, but I guess I was dreaming or something. Or perhaps it got changed since I changed the score color. So I made the score code's x position off screen so it wouldn't show up on screen. And now I have a red
I decided to make a new level 7 background for Hamburgers. I changed the levels around so the milkshakes wouldn't blend into the background. For example, I moved the cave level so no brown milkshakes would appear in it. As a result, my level code is all screwed up. But it works. So then I needed to make the score appear darker. I changed the dark color from red to black. So I am not planning to share any ROMs from here on out because they contain the ending, especially now since the ending is e
Version 18 was the the one I was having trouble with, so i figured I'd give up on it. This was a few weeks ago. But then, a few weeks later (today), I was determined to get to the root of the problem I was having. What I wanted was to get the ball close to the tree without thinking it was water when it was done moving. I found the problem.

This little bit of code checks the type of obstacle (tree or water) and then if i
So I attempted to make a Game Boy game larger than 32k. I think I succeeded with a start. I put some data in bank 3 and read it from bank 0. Which is a huge start. I've made a 64k ROM. So we'll see where this goes. My interest in the Bert game has been lessening. I found a way to test it on a real Atari 2600, though.
I put the font in bank 3 as well, and read it in bank 0. This is just a test screenshot. I plan on adding a burger in the background. Getting the burger moving was hard,
I wanted Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions for the 3DS, but it's $40! Why?! Almost every other 3DS game at Best Buy was $30 or below. More like "Expensive Buy" if you ask me, especially with all those DVDs of boxed sets and laptop computers and cameras and iPods and stuff. I did get a box set, though: Every Planet of the Apes movie (which was less than $40, mind you!). Sometime when I'm really bored and have nothing to do for like 10 hours, I'll sit down and watch every single one, one right after a
Remember that big 29x29 crossword puzzle I was working on? Well, here's the result. That being said, I'm still not done. I still have to make the grid, put in clues, and see if I used the same word twice (which I usually do with ones this big), and if I do, fix it so it doesn't. Also, I need other pairs of eyes to scan for mistakes, etc. So here it is, the preliminary 7th 29x29 crossword I've made. Well, I'll make the clues later because right now my brain hurts again.
EDIT: Caught and fixed
I worked all night on this, trying various things to make it work. But I think I did it. I added walls to bump into. I only kind of understand the code for this, though. What is really perplexing is that the code table for the rules of the maze has 15 rows while the actual maze has 20, yet it all seems to work together some how, in a way I don't understand. It's like Ms. Pac-Man for the 2600. I tried the game out with maze on a real Game Gear and all is good. It's 32 degrees and 6:30am here. But
Inspired by a typo in a movie catalog a few years ago, I decided to make a one-minute-long movie. So I made one in 2014. Three more followed in 2015. And here it is, 2016 almost ending and I hadn't made my annual one-minute movie. Well, there's still time. I figured this time I should make it a superhero movie. But not about any superhero found in any comic book. I thought to myself, "What is the weakest animal on earth?" Well, Ant-Man had already been created. So I figured out: Fruit Fly Man! I
Remember on the back of the Alien Greed 2 instruction manual where it said "Coming Soon: Alien Greed 3"? Well, soon is kind of soon. After GoSub 2 is released (which will be soon), Alien Greed 3 is next up to be released. This game has been finished for quite some time now, so I don't have to work on it. You can find info and screenshots of this upcoming game here.
Now normally I wouldn't review a football game for this GBA Chronogaming project, but I read about its minigames. I'm not a football freak, I mean I know enough to enjoy it, but I don't know everything about the game. I certainly wouldn't even get one question right in the trivia minigame, so I avoided it like the plague. Instead, I spent most of the time in the mini-game section's two playing football-related ones: Punting field goals (which is so easy a monkey could do it) and another one call
Well, I worked for about 3 hours on the game yesterday adding a cat in. What I want to have happen is the cat to dodge the flowerpots and eat the burgers by going up and down on the fence. The flowerpots and burgers would be just above the cat when he's on the lower platform, enough y distance to dodge the pot and burgers. This is what I mean when I used the term loosely about porting it. This is not the way the 2600 game Garfield works. How Garfield works is that you hop along the upper parts a
I got this game and wondered why I couldn't jump past the really big hole in 1-1. As it turns out, I discovered in a YouTube playthrough I needed to kick the stump in order for a platform to appear. Argh. There is no mention of doing crap like this in the manual. I read the manual, hoping there was a super jump I was missing perhaps. No. Then I got as far as 2-1 before the impossible part. Timing and jumping on a thing that bounces up and down beside a ledge at the end of a hole? Really? And the
While looking through my computer filled with all my projects, I ran across the beginning of my attempt to set the epic poem "Goblin Market" to music. (Wikipedia is your friend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goblin_Market ) It was two minutes long. I don't know why I quit working on it, but I did back in 2012 for some reason. I am hoping to make this at least fifteen minutes long. I just finished the first page worth of lyrics, about 6 pages' worth of sheet music. The poem is 7 pages long in Word
So I have been browsing a site about UHF channels from the '50s-'70s. Portland was the home for the world's first UHF station, channel 27, KPTV which started in 1952. Back then, KPTV was on channel 27 and was an NBC affiliate. What I don't know is how many TVs in 1952 were equipped to go as high as channel 27 to receive. But then five years later, tragedy. KPTV was sold to some guy and moved to channel 12, where it is today. Not only that, Salem for a brief time, had a UHF station, between 8/4/5
There has been one nagging thing about the Oranges game in the back of my mind. The fact that at the end, you have to shut down the GB in order to play it again. Well, I had enough nagging so I went to work. I changed it. I tested it. Took me about 20 minutes to beat the game again. And at the end, I pressed and held down start. The ending was playing. As soon as start was depressed the title screen came up. Perfect! So I think Oranges is just about done now. There's a big 10-story building in P
It's one of those cases where the game looks exactly the same but the code is different. In this case a lot different. I noticed some stuff. Like how sometimes if the burger is touching the cloud and the fry hits the broccoli the broccoli doesn't disappear. So I slowed the game down a little. Didn't help. I saw something though. I wondered if I could determine the sprite collisions of more than two sprites if I used $D019. A few false starts later I got it working. Sprite 0 is the burger, spri
I worked on Golf for the Channel F again last night. Today it was about adding borders to the game. This was something I wanted to do from the beginning, but I couldn't quite get it working. But now I did. I thought it seemed kind of odd that there was no border, so I set out to make one. It was really hard. I had to redraw the guy to make it work. It's kind of hard to explain why because I don't quite understand it myself. I really want to go to sleep. I will probably fall asleep once my head
My eye hurt again last night. Really bad. Figuring I would just barf them back up anyway, I decided to fix some popcorn and eat some Cheez-Its. Sure enough, a few hours later, there they were in the toilet bowl. I couldn't get to sleep very well since my eye hurt. But I find that when my eye hurts, sleep is the only thing that cures it. Sure enough, I went to sleep and woke up 6 hours later and the pain was almost gone. I decided to go back to sleep because I didn't get enough sleep, so I slept
