First the bad news. My grandpa had to put his cat to sleep. She had been sick for the last few months and, while it was inevitable because it was clear she wasn't going to get any better, it finally happened.
Now the good news. Ms. Pac-Man for the Lynx arrived safely in the mail today. The stupid mailman was very late, and for a second, I thought that we weren't going to get any mail at all today.
I'm busy buying all the long songs I have on record on CD. It's kind of amazing that I was able to find Emerson, Lake and Palmer's "Tarkus" on CD. I now have all 3 Jethro Tull songs over 15 minutes with the addition of the "Minstrel in the Gallery" album on CD. So, here's what I have left to find:
Yes - "Tales From Topographic Oceans" (album with 4 long songs on it!)
Alan Parsons Project - "Turn of a Friendly Card"
Uriah Heep - "Salisbury"
Cat Stevens - "Foreigner Suite"
Procol Harum (wi
Well, just for fun, I thought I'd use "Octopus's Garden" by the Beatles as the title screen music for "GoSub 2". I can't think of anything better that's not written by the Beatles or Disney ("Under the Sea" would also be perfect) or anyone else that would probably demand lots of money for using their song, so I'll probably use another song in place of it if I actually go through with making this game, so for now, bask in the glory of an off-key Atari 2600 rendition of "Octopus's Garden."
This movie was made in 1952. The DVD version has commentary with Maureen O'Hara, who starred in the movie. She was 82 when she made the commentary. Maureen is now 87 (unless she's dead, she's listed in the 'alive' section of the 2007 World Almanac, they don't call it that, though.) Maureen starred in the movie with John Wayne. It has one of the longest brawls ever filmed, but I have my work cut out for me watching this (it's 2 hours and 9 minutes long! I don't have a very long attention span). I
I decided to work some more on the demo because I was having fun programming it. I added another maze and the octopus. I'll take a look at the code for the first one to see if I can get the octopus to be invisible. Note that the octopus doesn't go down to the very bottom because if he did, the treasure chest would flicker and it would be a giveaway to the octopus's location. (Oh, the treasure chest is flickering, the octopus must be at the bottom.) Also, the sub is player0 because if it was play
I've been toying around with the multisprite kernel in bB. I'm pretty bummed that the ball and missiles are set at a height of 1, and that you can't have an 'if collision(player0,player3) then...' statement, but other than that, it's a cool thing. In fact, I was wondering what GoSub would look like with the multisprite kernel. Instead of one octopus chasing you, how about two? Or enemies patrolling a certain area going a fixed route that you need to avoid? I've drawn up a little demo of a game c
I thought I had all of them for the Atari 2600, but I was looking through my collection and found I'm missing three of them:
-Crossbow (Atari)
-Super Baseball (Atari)
-Super Challenge Baseball (M Network)
I've been neglecting my 2600 lately in favor of the Lynx and GBA. I think I'll plug my 2600 in and have a long marathon session with it tonight. Here's a top 6 list of games I've been playing lately:
1. Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA)
2. Shanghai (Lynx)
3. Mario Kart DS (DS)
4. Video
It's a combination printer/scanner/copier to be more precise. I don't use it as a printer all that often, but the time came that I needed to purchase ink cartridges for it. And wouldn't you know it, the thing has 5 different color cartridges! (Cyan, Light Cyan, Magenta, Light Magenta, and Yellow.) Luckily for me, all I needed was Light Cyan, Light Magenta and Black. So I figured I'd have my mom take me to Keizer Station since I've never seen it before. So I went there, and was amazed by how stup
I've made a list of some I'd like to see.
Quadrophenia (1979)
Queen of the Damned (2002)
Quest For Camelot (1998)
Quigley Down Under (1990)
Quiz Show (1994)
Out of all those, I think Quigley Down Under would be the most interesting. Quiz Show would probably be interesting, too, because it talks about how the quiz shows back in the 50's and 60's are rigged. I asked my mom about 'Quigley' and she said she likes Tom Selleck. I have seen a movie that begins with Q (if you don't count 'th
Last night, I watched a silent movie on TV. It was the first time I remember even seeing a silent movie on TV. It was called "Sparrows" and was made in 1926. There was a baby in the movie. My grandpa was born in 1925. So that baby is now about 82 years old. Anyway, I didn't quite get the plot, but I watched it anyway. It's funny how expressions get out of style. Like "I'll bet you frogs to turtles that..." And also, there was a bunch of scenes of Mary Pickford and kids discussing the Lord, prayi
It wasn't Buddy Hackett after all, but Abbott and Costello. I thought it was either Hackett or Costello. Anyway, here's an interesting bit of trivia: Which movie stars Boris Karloff *and* Jack Nicholson? The answer is at the end of this entry. Anyway, I just got Dirty Larry and Rampart in the mail, bringing my total # of Lynx games to 18. They're sitting on a bookshelf in three rows of 6 each, along with all my instruction manuals/posters, boxes, and the Lynx II itself. So it's sort of like a li
I bought Hairy Pothead & the Order of the Large Fries, er, um, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix for GBA today, leaving me at least 2 games short of having every GBA game released this year (Stealth Fighter and M&Ms Break 'Em are the two I'm missing.) I'm not a Harry Potter fan, and am wondering why Rowling quit the series. She was raking in the dough. And why would you watch the movie if you've read the book that came out last year? Do they change the plot or something? Anyway,
I thought I posted this Ratatouille review, but if you don't visit my GBA page, here it is. Kinda short, though:

I just noticed that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is out for GBA. And the only place I've seen it so far is Wal-Mart. So I guess I'll get it at Wal-Mart tomorrow. I didn't want to get it at Wal-Mart because I thought K-Mart would have it. They had the DS version but not the GBA version. The only game coming out in August is
You know those television listings you get every Sunday in your newspaper? Well, the one in my newspaper is called "TV Week." And, I probably mentioned this before, but they redesigned it in July of 2006. And call me crazy, but I have every single one since. That's 54 issues of TV Week in my dresser drawer. Sometimes I like to take a look at them. I tried to find out when the OJ Simpson special "If I Did It" aired once, but I couldn't find it. I remember it was in the listings, but it didn't act
Here's an interesting game I'm working on. It's called Q9, although the name might change (is it too similar to QB?) The object of the game is to change the color of the playfield to green by going over them while avoiding the red thing. I'm going to keep this at 4k or under because if it goes to the AA store, I want a $20 game in there. No word as of yet if Albert will put Happy Halloween in. It's no big deal, though, because it's way before September 1, which is my hope-to-have-Happy-Halloween
Just when you thought Shanghai was the only Lynx game featuring tiles, here's Ishido. The point of this game is to get all the tiles on the board. All tiles that touch each other must be of the same color and/or design. While it sounds easy, it is tough. A little too tough if you ask me. Six colors is a little too many for a game such as this. While a fun little time-waster, it is probably impossible to fit all the pieces on the board in such a manner that the game requires you to, unless you ha
Note: When trying to make a RoadBlasters clone on the Lynx, do better than Hydra did. While the game is pretty enough, the gameplay isn't all that good. Collision detection is off, even more so when you're turning. It's hard to get the fuel balls when there's too many enemy ships to shoot at. And I often run out of fuel and crash into ships, two things I don't do on RoadBlaster on the NES. And when the game is over, the screen shakes for about half a minute and pressing buttons frantically does
The high is ten degrees cooler today, a refreshing 93 I feel sorry for the Volcanoes, who have to play baseball tonight in the hot weather. I've always wondered why major/minor league baseball hold their games in the hottest part of the year. Who wants to play baseball when it's so hot outside? And I feel really sorry for the Arizona Diamondbacks and all their opponents who have to play there. Ugh. Why not hold games in the spring? Starting in March and ending in June or something? Why not just
Well, up-to-the-minute details here.
Well, it got up to 102 today (so far.) And there's differing opinions on whether it will be hotter tomorrow or not on the local TV stations and the Weather Channel. Some say hotter tomorrow, the Weather Channel says 94. So I guess I'll have to wait and see.
Model #AE02 is finally going to be shipped out Tuesday. That means the manuals are finished, and everything is a go. It's a limited-edition release, so that means that if you don't have one already, you'll never get one. The binary files will be released soon after. So the model numbers will be released in chronological order.
...is now the name of the game I'm working on. I think I'll take a short break from programming it (it doesn't have to be completed until September.) Watch me say that, and then add another update tomorrow. In other news, it's supposed to be 104 degrees tomorrow, a rare (thank goodness) occurence here. My eye hurt last night (migraine) and I vomited up some popcorn I ate earlier. I went to sleep and about 3 hours later, I woke up and it was fine. I don't like sleeping. I like to be active and d
Halloweaster. I'm going to put an Easter egg in Halloween Hunt, so now it will also be an Easter egg Hunt! What is said Easter egg? You'll have to find it first. It isn't in the game yet, and it won't be easy to find. I thought of a way to get to it, and I thought of an egg to put in there, so now all I have to do is program it in there. Then, add 6 more mazes, and it'll be done in plenty of time for September 1 (for the October 1 on-sale date.) But, it's supposed to be 100 degrees on Tuesday a
I'm in the process of burning my Beck CDs to the computer in case I get an iPod. I have 8 albums and 2 singles left, so I'm guessing it'll take about half an hour to do all those. By the way, the Volcanoes have been winning, 7-1 on Tuesday, 4-1 on Wednesday and 7-1 yesterday. They just started playing tonight. And it's going to be worse, the Weather Channel now says 99 on Tuesday and 101 on Wednesday, and the local news stations say all say mid-90's both days, so I don't know what to expect. So
It was 89 today and 91 yesterday. I'm not looking to next week, because according to the Weather Channel, 94 on Tuesday and 97 on Wednesday! The whole west is in the grip of a heat wave! Even Phoenix, which is pretty hot normally, is even HOTTER! Ulg! I didn't get a chance to go to the pool, because I thought the pets needed the fans on after what happened last night. This is why I like November, December and January. No relying on the fan, and, as a bonus, maybe it might snow, and snow is fun.
Well, we went over to my sister's house for a BBQ. We felt a little bad about leaving the pets in the hot house, but it was only for like three or four hours, and they handled it OK. We didn't want the fan going cuz one of them might knock it down, and heaven forbid we leave a window open so a robber can come in really easy. Anyway, I ate a burger (and a ton of snacks), watched some fireworks and just got back a half-hour ago, back into the oven, I was surprised it was still hot in the house at
