World Coins

Well, today I got some coins in the mail from Bahrain. That makes a total of 73 different countries I have coins from. I'm going to a coin store tomorrow (if it's open when i get there) to see if i can get any more. I'll have my list handy so i don't spend unneccessary money on duplicate countries. You can view my list at the bottom there. Notice that Germany is not on my list. I know that most of Europe has switched to using the Euro, but if any Germans have any deutschmarks laying around, even

I played Atari today

I played Pengo for the Atari 2600. It's fun, but it's also very frustrating. Those little suckers have IMO good AI. I think it's kind of unfair when a new monster hatches right next to you and you have no time to move. The music kind of gets repetitive, too, playing the same thing over and over again. It's hot in my room. It's getting to be that time of year again where things get hot. Luckily, we have an air conditioner this summer (that is, if mom will let me turn it on ) And it's going to get

Konami Krazy Racers

Company: KonamiRelease Date: June 2001 (launch)Size: 32 MegabitsNP's rating: 3.5/5 (v.145 p.117)ESRB rating: EA bunch of Japanese video game characters take to their go-karts and emulate Mario Kart. That is the basis, and it does what it's supposed to pretty well. Since I didn't want to go through all the rigamarole of unlocking new courses with what sounds like a stupid license-earning thing, I just had someone else do it for me (I cheated and used one of the save slots that had every track unl

New record player: day 2

So this is day 2 of having my record player and I've noticed that every single sleeve has been lying about its length, the length seems to be longer by about 20-40 seconds for songs that take up a whole side. It makes me wonder if maybe this record player is going at 34 RPM or something. Case in point: I got a record in the mail today. It says side two is 30:22, it turned out to be 29:32. It seems like the longer the track, the more off the said time is. I guess it's better than my old piece of

Game, no game

I got Tetris Plus for the Saturn from the Goat Store today. I looked in the case, no game. Anyway, to make matters worse, I had to go to the dentist. So, to make myself feel better (and after getting a good checkup), I got Dood's Big Adventure for the Wii. So expect a review of that sometime soon (luckily there was a game in that case). So today hasn't been a very good day so far.

Explosive Diarrhea

I added a score to TNT Teddy. So now it's a race to see how many people you can guide across the minefield to the outhouse. Someone forgot to check about the clams. Turns out they weren't good after all. So you have 60 seconds. After you guide one guy, the pattern changes and you have to now quickly navigate through the secret minefield. I had to do a little modifications to the default files to get it all in 2k, but I did, even the little victory tune, the tiny move changing sound, all the stuf

Vinyl (part 2)

So I tried to record just the audio of a side of a record. At the end, I pressed stop, rewound the tape a little bit and pressed play. No sound, just a static-y black picture. How disappointing. I also worked on Plim and gave level 4 an ending and a hint on what level 5 is. What is level 5? Go to the Plim topic in the bB forums and download version 26 to find out! A few notes on Plim. I'd like to try and keep it to 16k if I can, since that's what most late-run 2600 games are. When it's all finis

A Q's-er

So I got back to working on my Q game for the Odyssey 2. I had to disable diagonal movement because the tree was acting all weird if you came at it from a diagonal angle. Rather than spending even more hours trying to figure it out, I just decided to disable the whole thing. One addition though is the health meter. This will be crucial in the later stages of the game, but right now, all you can do is just ram into the tree to lower the health meter. Running into a tree hurts, even if you're the

Celery runs amok

I added a bit to the second episode of the Celery Show. In this little bit, Mr. Celery jumps atop the garlic factory. Since he can't destroy it by jumping on it, he then lights a molotov cocktail and throws it on the factory and it sets on fire. Why? It's no secret that the rivalry between stalks of celery and cloves of garlic go back centuries. Garlic and celery hate each other. And, in case you care, my back is better now. Not 100%, but better. Much better than yesterday, when every time I mov

Slight Captain Bruce update

I have decided on releasing Captain Bruce in October. Sounds far away, but it will be here before you know it. Stuff I need to do: have overlays made print out 15 copies of the instructions find some small cardboard boxes. The last one is deceptive. What I mean is some brown ones to put the game's contents in. Not a good kind with the name and stuff printed on it. The price of making a printable box is just too high. So anyway, that's what I'm doing here. I'll be making the overlays next month s

Felix the (expensive) Cat

I just spent $70 for a Game Boy game. And apparently at that price it was a bargain. The store had a copy of Felix the Cat for Game Boy. I saw it last time but passed. But then I got to thinking. And looking on eBay. The cheapest one like mine was $20 more. So now I have a rare gem in my Game Boy collection. I have a ton of Nintendo Power issues I don't want any more. I think I'll take them down there and see if they want them. No, I'm keeping my old ones, the ones I don't want are Gamecube to n

A Long Nap

At about 10am yesterday, I decided that I was going to lay in bed with my eyes closed because I was tired. I fell asleep, had a few crazy dreams, and the next thing I know it's 10pm. Anyway, before that, I worked on Killer Heads of Lettuce, trying to make it randomly select whether the lettuce attacks in a sinus wave or straight. I finally got it the way I wanted. I don't know why, but I have felt super tired these past few months. While I was asleep, the mail came. I got a box. I opened the b

A quiet Halloween

That's what I'm expecting, anyway. At our new place, the place is loaded with geezers (but they're nice geezers, anyway.) I think I'm the youngest person who lives here. Anyway, due to that fact, we probably won't have any trick-or-treaters. Mom said we can put the Halloween lights up in the backyard so people will see them when they walk by. Yes, the whole place have walking paths that go wherever, and in ours, people walk right by our backyard. It was really great when the golf course that was

I hate power outages

This marked the third power outage in the last 16 hours. This morning, I just woke up and the power went out. For over an hour. Last night, the power was out for 45 minutes, and then again a few hours later for an hour. It had been close to freezing and raining, so I'm guessing tree limbs falling on power lines, but three of them so close together? I woke up and turned on the gas fireplace and tried to go back to sleep on the couch. I couldn't. The last power outage I played some Virtual Boy, as

Killer Snakes

I tried my hand at programming for the Channel F. I wanted to make an Ants type game, but trying to, I ended up programming something like Surround. There's only one snake now, though. And he can't die. I am wondering if it's even possible to do what I want. I want to have 2 different snakes, each with its own color. I tried e-mailing e5frog, but the e-mail address wasn't good. Looking at the box art, I am led to believe that the only choose-able colors are red, blue, green, black, and white. I

An Odyssey 2 song

I wanted to make a song on the Odyssey 2 for Fatso 2's title screen. I woke up at about 12am and at 6am I was finished with it. I kept having a problem where it kept spitting out a's instead of moving along with the letters that the mouth eats that spells out "fatso 2." I still don't know why it played okay on O2EM and not on real hardware. But I got it working now. The non-working version was past 512 bytes, while the one that works was under 512 bytes. Knowing how crazy this stuff is, I bet th

A homebrew port.

With the release of GoSub for Intellivision nearing, I thought I'd attempt another port of a game that I thought I could do using Atari 2600 assembly. So I looked through all my Odyssey 2 games I had made throughout the years, and picked the celery one (what can I say? I love the celery.) It also seemed like the one I could do the best on the Atari 2600. So I set out to do it last night. Went to sleep today and woke up a few hours ago. Continued coding. It took a while but I got the score in. It

3 packages in one day

So big haul today. And I didn't even have to go out to get it. Although I did go out earlier to mail the Cellar-y Celery games. I got three Game Boy Games. And a DVD. The DVD is the one I ordered about Queen Elizabeth. It's from 1912. Box says extras are two short subjects from 1912. A short movie called "Cousins of Sherlocko", followed by an Edison film about Jack and the Beanstalk. Had no idea Edison was making movies as late as 1912. So I was working on stitching together two long songs from

Happy endings

Just about everyone loves a happy ending. Increase that number if the happy ending involves hamburgers. I am working on the ending of Hamburgers En Route to Switzerland for Game Gear. After that, I need to change a few things in the game that are there now due to testing. Then it will finally be done. So from April to July. It took 4 months to make this game so far. I should be asleep right now but I don't want to sleep because it takes forever and I'm sick of sleeping every SINGLE NIGHT! And it

There's a bug in my lemon!

I went to work on My History Teacher Ate Lemons. I was finishing up level 2 when I noticed that when you had the fire button pressed down when you defeated the giant lemon boss, the dumb sound sounded like a theremin. I tried isolating sounds but that didn't work. The only thing I could do was insert PLAY NONE and then directly after that, insert a command to play the defeated lemon ditty. That worked. And it's the only thing that is going to work. And that took a few hours to learn. So now u

No Dark Light review.

Sorry, but I just can't find it anywhere. As a last-ditch effort I'll try Toys R Us this weekend, but except for that, I'm through looking. Next up in the GBA review blog is Ghost Rider. Yeah, I know Final Fantasy VI Advance is coming out sooner, and while I do have it reserved, I did so just for the sake of collecting. Just like today I bought Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime for the DS, but I'm not going to play it. There's a couple more "great" DS games I need to get before my collection is

ELP LP

So, I was at the record store, and there were two versions of Karn Evil 9, one split up into 4 tracks and one 29-minute track. Guess which one I got? This couldn't be false advertising because it said "5. Karn Evil 9" and after that was track 6, which begins the bonus track portion of the album. And not only is there a long song on this CD, there's also a long song title (I don't collect those.) Do you think "When the Apple Blossoms In the Windmills of Your Mind I'll Be Your Valentine" is a lon

Ms. Pac-Man and Snow

What do they have in common? I got both today. I went to bed at about 11pm, and at around 4am, Mom woke me up and said "It's snowing and it has been." Sure enough, I awoke and there was about an inch of snow on the ground. My mom was supposed to go to my sister's place but she didn't want to drive in the snow, and my sister was mad at her. Later, when it got warmer, the snow melted and I went to Game Crazy. In yesterday's blog, I said I thought I saw Ms. Pac-Man for the NES there. Well, as it tu

Padded R(o)om

I was working like crazy trying to make the sound right in my Virtual Boy game. My Flash Boy has been put to good use so far, testing and retesting my game with the same results: My game wasn't working like I wanted it to. It takes about 100 seconds for the game to load on the Flash Boy cart, so I've probably spent about a half-hour total just waiting for the game to load, each time getting angrier and angrier because I wasn't doing something right. One time I had accidentally moved a ROM to the
