An HTML lesson.

So I went to sleep at 8pm because I was tired again. I woke up at 2:30am. It was then that I decided to write some more of my story from a few days ago. So I did. I spent about an hour and a half writing it. I intended to stop at 10,000 words. It was hard trying to reach that milestone without hardly advancing the story too much. Because once I hit 10,000 words, the story was only half over. So I did. And I uploaded the story onto my website. I was glad I had kept the other story I wrote on th

An eye for an i

So after getting a lowercase l in the game, I tried my hand at making it a lowercase i instead. I have no idea why, but I had a ton of trouble getting the base part to be 8 pixels tall. When I pressed fire on the title screen, it flashed the in-game screen and then reset itself. But I kept working and trying multiple things until I got it a lowercase i like I wanted. I also learned it has to be a yellow i since it's the ball and since PFx makes up the fence's color, the ball's color h

An experiment

Working on this q game is like an experiment. Or it will soon. In order to make this an interesting enough game, I can't limit myself to 2k this time. I'll have to go at least 4k. I've never done a game bigger than 2k before except the failed Super Giuseppe, which was 8k, so it will be something new. I added a box. It took me a few hours to add the box. What happens when you touch the box? Well, why not play it for yourself to see what happens? And then give me feedback on the game so far. I've

An expensive set?

Yesterday, I said I'd get a complete View-Master VR pack set. This will cost me more than I thought. I went on the internet on the View-Master website just to see if anything else had been made or if it was completely forgot about or abandoned and someone pulled the plug on the project so to speak. Well since my last visit to the View-Master site, apparently two more VR packs have been made. One is of Bat-Man and the other is of He-Man. I don't know why they picked He-Man as something to make a

An analytical look at GoSub 2 so far

For the most part, I like it. I think it's way better than the original. I added shooting enemies, and therefore a scoring system, both something that the original was lacking. The Combat mini-game is looking good so far. But after playing the first GoSub, something was lacking in GoSub 2: No 'no octopus' mode. Well, that was fixed. I don't know why I like video games so much since I don't do very well at them. The video games I like the best are puzzle games. These ones I think I excel at. That

An actual use for a game.com

...besides "door stop." I was going through YouTube trying to find old TV shows from the DuMont Network. Found a ton of stuff, ranging from clips to full-length episodes. I actually found much more than that, I found cartoons from the 1950s. One in particular was one made by a car manufacturer or something about life in 2000. And it mentioned "Monday, October 5, 2000." I wanted to find out whether or not October 5, 2000 was really a Monday. You know, did they do their research? Well, I thought "

Am I crazy?

In order for sound to be in my PSX game, I have to get Sound Forge. A google search turned up buying things, with the cheapest option at $60. Excuse me? Am i crazy? Why should I have to shell out $60 in order to get a program that lets me get sound on a homebrew game for an ancient system? I could just download the trial version, but Sony insists that you register trial versions. Why? I wish money was never invented and people could have anything they wanted for free. What a utopian society that

Alphabet poem

Hey gang, after buying a book called "Alphabet Avenue" at the library bookstore (they only wanted $2 for it. Must be because it had writing in it.) I feel like a wordplay mood. So I've constructed what I call "The Alphabet Poem." Each letter cannot be used unless the one before it is before the letter in the alphabet. So, for example, I cannot use the word "aback" to begin, because K isn't right after C. This also made a problem for Q. I couldn't use a normal Q word because U isn't right after Q

Alphabet Avenue

I'm surprised the makers of Sesame Street would want to confuse kids like this. Is it Sesame Street or Alphabet Avenue? Why not just name the show Alphabet Avenue when it premiered in 1969? Perhaps Sesame Street turns into Alphabet Avenue, like how our streets in our town turn into other streets. Capitol St. turning into Fairgrounds Rd. is one of the many examples we have here. And we actually have a Sesame Street here in Salem. No Alphabet Avenue, though. Anyway, I just got this in the mail tod

Almost there.

Right now I have 98 DS games. So I'm almost to 100. I might be going to Toys R Us so if I do, I'll pick up two more cheap ones and then I'll have 100! By the way, today I got Garfield's Nightmare and Geometry Wars: Galaxies. Haven't played them yet, but the Garfield one got a 7.0 in Nintendo Power, so maybe it's surprisingly good. When I was checking out, I noticed that both those games started with "G." I know, not very interesting. I also got my hair cut today. It'd been a looong time, and I w

almost Jag collecting quitting time

So here I am, two games away from completing a Jaguar collection. It's not all the Jaguar games, though. I can't afford Rayman, et al. And I don't have a Jaguar CD thing, so I don't have any Jag CD games. And I probably couldn't afford a Jaguar CD anyway with the eBay asking prices. So anyway, I ordered Fever Pitch Soccer off of eBay (I think the e doesn't stand for "electronics," but rather "expensive".), which leaves only two games left R5 and under: International Sensible Soccer and Power Dri

Almost got 100,000...

...on Strat-O-Gems Deluxe. So close, and yet so very far. My previous best is about 78,000. This time around, I got 96,725. Unless I get extremely lucky like I did this time, I don't think I'll be able to break 100,000. Anyway, Strat-O-Gems is the best Atari 2600 homebrew game so far.

Almost at 1,000

I've almost got 1,000 hits on my blog. BTW, if you're #1,000, please PM me. Anyway, went to the Salvation Army and they had zero Atari games, which I thought was weird since they had Dreamcast, PS1, and other 90's controllers. So, I went down the street to the used video game store I always talk about in these blogs and got 4 Sega Genesis games: Spot Goes To Hollywood, Taz-Mania, Taz In Escape From Mars, and X-Perts. Yeah, they don't have very many. They had Sonic 3 for $9.95. I'm not gonna pay

Alley Cat - possible O2 game

It's never too early to think about what game you want to make next. And for the Odyssey 2, I would like to "port," and I use the term loosely, "Garfield" from the 2600 to the Odyssey 2. I began work on a simple fence in the Odyssey 2. Some colors are to be changed. The fence is yellow (read: brown), the cat will be black. I would like the dog in there following the cat's movement at the bottom, but he won't do anything except follow the cat. So here's what I'm planning: cat - sprite 0. Dog - sp

All work and play

I had rediscovered that I was using the collision detection on the oranges. So I had to do the other way and add a lot of extra code to make the guy get the objects. And then it began. I tried on real hardware: Nothing was the result. So began a few hours of moving code around to get the stupid thing working. I eventually did however. I have used up 1,300 bytes which means I have 700 bytes left to add eating oranges and slowing them down logic in the game. Adding 20 points for the cherry getting

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Am working on Jack and the Beanstalk for the PS1. Am at a good stopping point now though. I need some questions answered so I posted in the almost dead PSX-Dev forums. As it turns out, I need to name stuff different from the h file than what variable is in the h file. Now that I know that, I think I can keep on doing this. I'm running out of room so I asked what I can do to make more room for all my images. Anyway, even after a year, it's not a game quite yet. Just the bird flying on the title s

All the news that's fit to blog

-=stupid games news=- issue 1 / summer 2006   - My first game I ever made for the Atari 2600 (that I ever cared about, anyway) is in the Minigame Compo ‘06. Zyx (pronounced “Zicks”) is an alien face that eats bananas. At first, I wanted Zyx to be a yard gnome, but that would be hard to pull off given an 8x8 sprite to work with, so he became a simple alien smiley face from the planet Plim. Why bananas, though? Cuz I felt like it. This final version has a health meter that shows how many of yo

All quiet on the N-Gage front.

Well, after searching eBay for N-Gage games, it looks as though I have all of the listed ones. (And even if there was one I didn't have, I'd probably buy it and then never get it. I'm having trouble getting a package again. Why won't the stupid postal service deliver my packages to me? And why is it me?) I'm angry at this auction. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 140919010156 $81 for Requiem of Hell? I have it, and I am quite sure I didn't spend $81 for it. I think the most I've ever paid for any on

Alien Invasion

An alien invasion will be happening at my house soon. So I just happened to be on eBay at the right time. Earlier there was also Video Poker, which I would have gotten as well, but I clicked on it and it said it was "out of stock." There was only one and someone else must have bought it, which I don't blame them because it was only $40. So I bought the other one Alien Invasion, which was $80. So I will get in the mail sometime soon one of the rarer Channel F games. I went to get my Channel F o

Alien Invaders - Plus!

Has anyone besides Terence O'Neill ever scored at least one point on this insipidly stupid game? I can't and I honestly think Terence cheated because it is impossible to shoot just more than 2 aliens, let alone clear the screen. Alien Invaders - Plus! is a Space-Invaders rip-off, and a HORRIBLE one at that. Things that make it stupid: #1 - the bottom row isn't able to get defeated. #2 - Once you lose your third ship, you turn into a guy and have to wait for an alien to finish you off. Funny that

Alien Greed website

I've updated the Alien Greed official website. All i did was add a banner and change the release date of AG3 to Q2 2009. I PM'ed neo about how progress on GoSub 2 and Alien Greed 3 were going but he hasn't answered me yet. Both games have been finished for quite some time now. Also, i PM'ed Al about Jack and the Beanstalk, but he hasn't answered me yet. Al hasn't seemed to be around much here for a while. Perhaps he's getting carts ready for the "holiday" sale? I don't know, I've been bored and

Alien Greed out soon!

Model #AE02 is finally going to be shipped out Tuesday. That means the manuals are finished, and everything is a go. It's a limited-edition release, so that means that if you don't have one already, you'll never get one. The binary files will be released soon after. So the model numbers will be released in chronological order.

Alien Greed 5?

So I was looking at my Alien Greed collection. All four games. It dawned on me that there needs to be a fifth game in the series. After fiddling around trying to make Pac-Man in bB, I gave up. So I'll try a simple game. Kaboom! seems to have simple graphics. So I went for that. Unfortunately, it isn't going to be paddles, just a normal joystick, with the way the kernels work. I wasn't able to fully duplicate it, but I came pretty darn close. I swapped out the plates for the alien and the bombs a

Alien Greed 5 (part 3)

As for RT's comment in part 1. Alien Greed 3 was similar to E.T. People bought it. Alien Greed 4 was similar to Adventure. People bought it. And there are hacks being sold in the Atari Age store right now. There's a whole section devoted to Atari 2600 hacks. So why not? It's just a 4k game, so the price would probably be lower than AG3 or 4 anyway. Anyway, if this is a good idea, I did a quick sketch of what I'd like the label to look like. This is not the final label, just a quick mock-up. I'd

Alien Greed 5 (part 2)

I made the game prettier. I wonder if I should make the alien taller so it would be easier to grab onto the swinging vine. I'm not really a Pitfall expert. In fact, I completely totally suck at the game. Also, the game is actually 4k, not 8k as I had posted in yesterday's entry. PM me if you want to play-test the game for me even though I still haven't found a publisher for it. More eyes and hands would be a good thing for this.
