Xybots is a shooter on the Lynx with similarities to Faceball 2000 for the Game Boy, which is way better even though it's in black & white. Xybots should have had an ever-forward-facing character (if the Game Boy could do it, surely the Lynx could have), but in Xybots, in order to turn, you have to press B and the direction you want to turn at the same time. This can get very disorienting, and not a very good control scheme. A is for shooting. That's the one good thing, the shooting responds
I got a watch that says "Nintendo 64" on it as a cheap gift for renewing my subscription to Nintendo Power a long time ago. I didn't use it very much, and to the drawer it went. Fast-forward about 8 or 9 years later, and it still works, using the same battery as the day I got it! Who knew cheap watch batteries can work consistently for 9 years? The date and time was a little off, so I set it to the correct date and time, and it has been consistent since yesterday when I rediscovered it. And now,
The Volcanoes got their first loss last night 13-5. But they won tonight 10-5. So right now they stand at 6 wins, 1 loss for the season. Other than that, nothing really new. And apparently nobody outside Oregon cares that the Beavers won the national NCAA baseball championship. It was on the front page of both the main section and the sports section of today's Statesman Journal, so lots of people inside Oregon care.
So I got all three of the packages I was expecting (the last one came yesterday), and I opened it and found Bugs, along with another Data Age game and some more games. I now have 169 of them total, reaching ever closer to 200. And I need to find a new box (or boxes), my current box could only hold 161 (23x7). And the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes won again, beating Boise 9 to 4. Either we're really great or Boise stinks at baseball. We'll find out tonight when we play a team that isn't Boise. By the wa
"Haberdashery" is up to 9 1/2 minutes. Click the link in the previous blog if you want to hear it. I'm composing this myself. The Volcanoes are on a winning streak, they beat Boise yet again 8-0. I got "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield on CD, and it's pretty cool. I wouldn't call it new age, though. If it's new age, then so is Thick As a Brick.
Right now, I'm composing a song that I hope to be 20 minutes or so long. You can see what I have so far here. Right now, it's around 6 minutes long so far (I added a minute or so from the version I posted), so I have quite a ways to go. It's in MIDI form, and when it gets done, I hope I can find someone to turn it into a .wav file, burn it on a CD and mail the CD to me. I would myself, but my computer is stupid and it won't let me. I wanted to name it "My Butt Hurts Part 1," but my mom insisted
Beginning with the NES version of Tetris, I've always loved this game. So, I've decided to start collecting games with a Tetris theme. Looking at what I have so far, it probably won't be long until I'm finished (at least with Nintendo systems.)
- Tetris (NES)
- Tetris 2 (NES)
- Tetris (GB)
- Tetris 2 (GB)
- Tetris Attack (GB)
- Tetris 2 (SNES)
- Tetrisphere (N64)
- The New Tetris (N64)
- Tetris DX (GBC)
- Tetris Worlds (GC)
- Tetris DS (DS)
That mean's I'm missing at least the
I was expecting three packages in the mail, but now it's down to two with the arrival of one. In it were Ghostbusters, Pitfall 2, Turmoil, Crypts of Chaos, MASH, and GI Joe Cobra Strike. I already had a copy of Ghostbusters, so now I have a rarity 4 game dupe to trade with. So with a long absence of additions (except for GoSub), that now brings me to a total of 157 Atari 2600 games.
In other news, it's hot in here! I don't know why, seeing as it's only 77 and it only got up to 82 yesterday. An
Yes, I got a copy of Washing Machine, the Sonic Youth album. Inspired by the Favorite Long Songs topic I started, I went out and bought it, and am now listening to The Diamond Sea (the reason I bought it). Apparently, there's a 25-minute-long version on the single, but I didn't find it, so I just have to settle with the 19-minute-long version. . There's this record store downtown called Ranch Records, where a music fan could spend hours looking at a huge selection of CDs and old records (and new
So I was at a record store today and noticed a few CDs with long songs I have on LPs. I was going to buy them until I realized they had broken the long songs up into three or four tracks. Needless to say, I was pretty angry and didn't buy them. But I wondered why do that? If I want to listen to The Fall of the House of Usher, I wouldn't want to start somewhere in the middle, I would want to start at the beginning and listen to the whole 15 minute song! They weren't broken up on vinyl (TFOTHOU w
I did the only way I could: I called my dad. I haven't seen him much lately (it's a long story), I told him to have a happy Father's Day. He really appreciated it. My sister was going to call him, don't know if she ever did. Meanwhile, my mom went to see her dad (my grandpa), along with my sister and my niece. I didn't come because they were also going to look at open houses. Nothing unusual, though, my mom always visits my grandpa every Saturday and Sunday and calls every night right after Jeop
I just got back from Best Buy with CD in hand and am currently listening to "The Gumbo Variations," a song that clocks in at 16 minutes and 56 seconds. Said song is by Frank Zappa, and is on the album called "Hot Rats." I think I may have found my equal in weirdness. I sometimes tape myself fooling around on the keyboard and "wrote" an impromptu "song" called "I Like Bacon" that's a little over two hours long. Some other titles of my songs include "Fun With Salt," "Atomic Feast," and "Abburido B
Just because the game is finished doesn't mean I can't continue the blog topic. My copy of GoSub came in the mail today, along with three AtariAge magnets. I put one on the metal file cabinet that my tv in my room sits on, don't know what to do with the other two (I may give them to family members.) Well, anyway, my mom is proud of me. It's still not listed in the store though, at least not the last time I checked. And there's still time to enter the Aegis logo creating contest, which ends Sept
After years of not eating them, I suddenly got an urge to eat hot dogs. So i got some at the store today and they taste very yummy. Call me weird, but the only thing I put on hot dogs are mayo and onions. The only thing I put on a ham sandwich are mayo and onions, along with a pickle slice or two. I am a mayo freak. I consider it to be my favorite condiment. Ketchup is second (I only eat ketchup on burgers.), and I hate mustard. Icky yellow crap. And the only time I eat relish is in tartar sauce
Was just looking at the blog section when I noticed my blog got more than 10,000 views on it. Yay! In other news, there isn't any. Looks like I'll have to post a review of some sort on some Lynx game or something tomorrow. Halloween Havoc is now up to 11 screens, and I'm trying to work on a thunder effect for the title screen. Can't get the noise, though. I think I'll try to make another screen later today. Here's a binary file of the lightning flash of the title screen (you don't have to wait v
Shawn Sr. will publish the carts for me, and it's a limited edition of 30. I don't know how many of you would actually be interested in the game, so I just guessed. I'll post a topic in the Marketplace forum on October 1, and it'll be first come first serve (much like Alien Greed.)
...because it was written by me. I'm a huge Beck fan, and if you've ever actually listened to the lyrics of his songs (his big hits were "Loser" and "Where It's At"), you'll notice they make absolutely no sense whatsoever. So I thought I'd take a stab at it.

Well, I never did get to Wal-Mart today because I spent the day asleep. I went to sleep at 1 AM, woke up a couple times and finally woke up at 4:30 PM! I had no idea I was that tired. So maybe tomorrow. Now since I've slept for about 12.5 hours, I guess I can spend all night playing the 2600 (which I've been neglecting in favor of the Lynx and the DS.) And, also, I'm announcing a logo contest for Aegis Games! Whoever can make the prettiest logo that looks like my crappy pencil-like design will
Hello. Welcome to today's blog update. I went to Value Village and, as expected, absolutely no 2600 games. There was a Genesis controller, but I didn't need one. Methinks I'll take the bus down the street to Wal-Mart and get the Nintendo DS browser if they still have it tomorrow. Didn't get around to it today. Then, when Mom gets home from work, we're driving to the post office (also not far away from home.) The weird thing about having Delta airline service coming to the airport is this thing s
Welcome to a typical June day in Oregon. Portland held its annual Rose Festival Parade this morning (in the rain), and I went out and got Planet Puzzle League and Death Jr. for DS (in the rain.) PPP is OK, but it would be even better if the cursor would go vertical instead of just horizontal. I want the Nintendo DS Browser, which I saw at Wal-Mart and will go back tomorrow to get (even if it's raining,) as well as to Value Village to see if there's any new Atari 2600 games (there probably won't
It's Mahjong solitaire for the Lynx! While Mah-Jong is a popular subject to make video games about in Japan, very few of them come stateside. Well, if you're looking for one on your Lynx, you're in luck!
Basically Shanghai (or Mah-Jong) is a tile matching game. Each tile has a pretty design on it and you match two of them with the same design (or same themed design, for example, Autumn and Winter count as a match) to get rid of them. The object of the game is to clear the board of tiles. But th
With the GoSub problem fixed (thanks to Batari), I can go on worrying about other things. Like the fact that air service came back to the Salem Airport which I live across the street from. I hear just about every airplane that takes off and lands at the airport (thankfully there aren't that many), and not once today have I heard a jet. And said airline service comes from and takes off to Salt Lake City twice a day (for a total of 4 jet landings/takings off), which would be really great if I care
Albert says he's been having problems running GoSub on real software. For more info, see the Gosub thread in the homebrew forum. I'm thinking the worst-case scenario is that GoSub won't be able to be shown and the game will be delayed. This makes me wonder what Halloween Havoc looks like on real hardware.
In other news, I'm working on converting GoSub to the Oric. Funny thing about the Oric is that it can only display 8 colors and has only 4 noises. One of the noises sounds like a sonar pin
I'm going to learn how to write software for the Oric computers (not to be confused with Oreck vacuum cleaners). Right now, I'm pre-Hello-World stage (learning where to get and how to use software in order to do this.) I've joined the Defence-Force forums, but they're not really all that active. I have OSDK, and am trying to learn how to use it. It's a little difficult right now because I don't know what the Oric is capable of in terms of how to program for it (apparently I can use BASIC, which
Guide a robot through treacherous territory to get gems and avoid the big bad meanies. Basically what this is is Chip's Challenge with a gun. That's not to say it's a bad thing, though. There's a bit of Dig Dug thrown in too with rocks that fall once you dig (read: shoot the dirt) under them. Your robot can get killed by an enemy, have a rock fall on them, get blown apart by explosives, so it's very dangerous for mr. robot. There's a good thing that's like Chip's Challenge, and that's in the for
