Flea Market Find

Well, I'm back from the flea market with this:   The only thing I saw at the whole thing that had the Atari logo on it. I saw something Sega, but this Dig Dug thing I couldn't pass up. I think it came off the arcade machine (the same vendor had some screen surrounding glass pieces, but those were way too big for me to take, so I just took home the Dig Dug logo glass. It is now in my room next to the Atari games.

Meet the Robinsons

Yet another game based on a movie I haven't seen. This is game #4 based on a movie I haven't seen since I started reviewing these things, and apparently almost every GBA game from now on will be based on movies I haven't seen (or never will see.)   Little Dorises are attacking the world apparently, and your job is to kill them. These Doris things are little spider-like robots. Apparently, these things are evil. You can turn the help on or off, with help being like those little talking boxes in

Top 10 - April 2007

I did something a little different this month: I decided to go with games NOT made by Atari *or* Activision. So here it is: 1. Trick Shot - Imagic 2. Word Zapper - U.S. Games 3. Fast Food - Telesys 4. Frogs & Flies - M Network 5. Frogger - Parker Bros. 6. Kool-Aid Man - M Network 7. Carnival - Coleco 8. Cosmic Ark - Imagic 9. Lock N Chase - M Network 10. Tapeworm - Spectravision   Also, busy day tomorrow. I get to go to a flea market (which probably won't have any Atari games, bu

M Network games

I was browsing the rarity list and discovered that I could more than double my collection of M Network games for the 2600. Here's what I have so far: Astroblast, Frogs N Flies, Kool-Aid Man, Lock N CHase, Space Attack, Super Challenge Football. There are 8 rarity 2 or 3 M Network games that I want, so I've put an ad in the wanted forums for these: Air Raiders, Dark Cavern, Intl. Soccer, Super Challenge Baseball, Burgertime, Armor Ambush, Adv. of Tron and Tron Deadly Discs.   And lately, I'v

SXIOPO

When I was a kid, I played a whole bunch of games on my PC. Like CD-Man, a rip-off of Pac-Man. I could never get past the third level as a kid, but I downloaded it recently on my computer that died last September and I beat it. Or take Dr. Sbaitso, the virtual doctor that came with the Soundblaster card. I downloaded this too, but he doesn't talk! Anyone remember Chip's Challenge? Or howaboutz Jezzball, the kind-of Qix clone? I was 14 when the N64 came out, which is the console that I remember t

More Kindercomp

I've expanded my educational game a little, and there's only one option now, and that's a lowercase/uppercase letter-matching game. I'll put more lowercase letters in if I can bankswitch using the multisprite kernel. You cycle through the letters kind of like in Hangman. In case the multisprite kernel doesn't work with 8k or larger games, I'll have to give up on it because it's too ambitious for just 4k.

Wal-Mart Vs. Donna Summer

You know that 1975 song "Love To Love You Baby"? Well, I found it at Wal-Mart. It was only $5.88, so I bought it. And apparently Wal-Mart has no beef against it, even though there are, well, let's just say "noises not appropriate for 12-year-olds." And there was no censorship in any way, surprisingly. I thought said "heaviness" would be deleted from the album's title song, but it wasn't. I just wanted to see what Wal-Mart would do with the song, seeing as I heard they censor music. But apparentl

Kindercomp!

When I was young (very young), I had a Commodore 64. And one of the games for it was Kindercomp. Doing a quick search for it on Moby Games (the link), says Spinnaker also made it for Atari 8-Bit and ZX-Spectrum, among a few other systems. What I want to do is make a Kindercomp-style game for the Atari 2600. Here's what I have for the title screen so far. It's a little over 2k. The guy is playing a flute (and NOT smoking a cigarette), and to make sure I added notes coming out of the flute. I want

Monday

Hey gang, it's Monday night, time for Headlines, that is, if Jay Leno is a new one tonight. And apparently the guys from MST3K are reuniting to do a new DVD series about making fun of movies! The first one comes out July 10, and I can't wait! I also getted a couple of DS games, upping the total to 71. I pretty much think I have every significant DS game except for Lost In Blue 1 and Final Fantasy: Chocobo Tales. And I didn't want to reserve the new Pokemon game because I don't know which one to

So it begins...

I was going to go to Best Buy today to get a GBA game, but thankfully I looked in the paper and their ad said Closed Easter Sunday. Yep, it's Easter, one of the two days where everything is closed. It doesn't seem fair to me that people who don't have to go to church can't go to a store if they feel like it. I can see the point of closing the store (so Christian employees can go to church services all day, and people who celebrate Easter can be with their families), but I wish everything doesn't

Cold & Hot

I looked in the sports section of the newspaper, and apparently the baseball game of Detroit vs. Toronto was postponed because of cold weather. Meanwhile, we're flirting with record highs here in western Oregon. What does that mean? Yesterday it was around 77. Today's supposed to be the same, around 80. And then tomorrow the cool down begins, with 50's and rain. And the folks in Maine are going to have a white Easter. Now I've got to log off because my computer automatically needs to be restarte

Baseball's Back?

Here in Salem, we have two minor league teams. The first, the Salem Stampede, is a minor league basketball team, who in their first few years here, have been sub-par. The second, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (the Keizer part is because the stadium is in Keizer), is a minor league baseball team who won the NWL title last year. And with all the talk about baseball being back because of it being spring, I checked the Volcanoes website to see when the season started. Mid-June! Guess it's a few more mo

GONFIACB Madness!

I've decided to have two levels, one wide falls and one narrow falls. And the two keep alternating until you lose all your lives. Why? The jumping fish. He's so cute and I didn't want to lose him (I even added a noise for him.) That, and if the falls get any narrower than what I've got here, it'd kind of be impossible to navigate on the faster levels. Again, tell me what you think (too hard, too easy, just right?) I haven't gotten to the part where the falls alternate, so the narrower falls just

Lost Lost In Blue

I got 2 DS games today: Purr Pals and Big Brain Academy. I was going to get Lost In Blue 2, but I figured what good would it be without the first one? So I went to both Gamestops in the mall downtown and while there were plenty of copies of Lost In Blue 2, there were no copies of the original. So I looked at the kitty on the cover of Purr Pals and couldn't resist getting it for my collection. I'm more of a cat person than a dog person, anyway. Also, Big Brain Academy was only $20. I also got a s

Still Going Over Niagra Falls

Here's some more screens of Going Over Niagra Falls In a Cardboard Box, what the heck, here's the latest binary and .bas files. A note about the files, when you die (hit a rock), it repeats the death noise twice, but you don't lose a life. Every time I hear Niagra Falls mentioned, I always have to think "Slowly I turn, step by step, inch by inch..." (It's a 3 Stooges thing.)

Important GoSub announcement

I've been thinking a lot about the Atari spirit, as well as the spirit of being nice and generous. I don't know the logistics of receiving money off homebrews sold at AtariAge, but what I want to do is take all the money from GoSub and give it to a charity. And my charity of choice is the Willamette Humane Society, a humane society located right down the road from me. It's a kind of small humane society, but they do good work for animals, and I just want to help them out. I don't want to be a gr

I Hate April Fools' Day

It's such a ridiculous holiday, purposely hurting other people's feelings for the pure joy of some stupid holiday started by a bunch of idiots hundreds of years ago. If I could. I'd abolish all celebration of it, punishable by the death penalty. It could be that I don't have a sense of humor, it could be I have a short fuse, it could be because i'm so g------ gullable, heck, it could even be that I'm just plain a mental case, but for just some reason it really ticks me off. And for what? To feel

Let's get out our 7800!

I went to Game Crazy to trade in my games. They took most of them, but not quite all of them. They didn't take any of my Atari games, but that gave the two guys that were working there to get their 7800 out of storage and play Pac-Man for the 2600. Their controller wasn't working quite well as I could see, but they were remarking how far video games have come since the 2600 was out. And people ask me when I ask a store I'm at about Atari "do you still have one?" meaning still as in if I've had i

Quickspot not spotted quick

...or "What I did while the forums were down."   I went to Best Buy and got Quickspot and Dragon Booster. I got Dragon Booster cuz it looked interesting and it was only $15. Quickspot was only $20 and I've been wanting it since it came out because I like quirky titles (like Trioncube. Namco/Bandai have been cranking out quirky titles for the DS for a while now. I wonder what the next one will be. So now I have 66 DS games, and I'm beginning to experience a lull in the collecting because now I

Spilling the beans...

Many of you are wondering, "Gee, did NeoTokeo get permission from Chris to do that Alien Greed game?" OK, hardly any of you are asking that, but the answer is yes. Not only that, I modified the game quite a bit for this release. Changes include the following: -NeoTokeo changed the sprites to reflect a different theme. -Game started with joystick fire instead of reset switch. -Added a life counter (but I had to minimize the score to 4 digits instead of 6 in order for that to work, but it's a l

Smiley

I think after the 16k GoSub gets in the store, Smiley will be one of my next games. One big factor is it's only 4k and so it'll only be $20 in the store, IIRC. I have been working on a number of things, most of them going absolutely nowhere, so I've decided not to post them anywhere. I went to the doctor's office (med check) and afterwards, since I woke up at 1 pm and the appointment was at 3:45, I got a big 12 inch submarine sandwich at Subway. It was yummy, although I wanted Jack-In-The-Box,

Cleaning out the clutter

There are some games I have that I don't really need. On Saturday, I'm going to take them all and trade them for games I want, but the AtariAge forum users get first choice. Any of you want any of these? TMNT

As promised, a TMNT review. Another game based on a movie I haven’t seen, but I remember these 4 pizza-eating turtles from my youth. I guess marketing likes to bring everything back from the 80’s and 90’s except pogs. Well, anyway, the game.   Basically, read the Ghost Rider review and replace Ghost Rider with TMNT. This is basically just like Ghost Rider, fighting with enemies, slashing and bashing them into oblivion. Apparently, the game’s programmers hate dogs, because you get to slash and

Slothy

Well, here it is, the first day of spring break, and what do we get? Rain. And rain makes me sleepy. Nevertheless, I managed to get up off the couch and head downtown. Kids were hanging out at the mall, and there were no copies of Quickspot at neither Gamespot or f.y.e. (apparently Sam Goody has changed its name. What's funny is Sam Goody is still in the tile at the enterance, but they just put a big piece of carpet that says f.y.e. to cover it up. ) I did manage to find a picture disc for my co

Entry #300!

Wow, every time I attempt to write a diary, i just write in it a few days and forget about it. This time, I guess since it's writing about what I really like (video games), this one is lasting. This is my 300th entry, and with almost 7,000 views, too. Best Buy is the greatest store in the history of video game stores, even though it's not a video game store (in the sense that they sell more than just video games.) So, expect a review of TMNT soon, and, since I pledged to do every single game,
