I guess you don't have to worry about the Wii-U being a failure. I went in to the Gamestop this weekend and they said you can't preorder a Wii-U anymore because they went fast. So I guess that will be the end of my Nintendo Power plans. Sheesh. I thought it would be a failure. I guess not. I guess I'll have to wait a frickin year after the thing comes out to get it like I did the Wii. I guess they don't want to release it a few months after to have a few more on hand because then they'd miss the
In Super Skweek, the object of each level is to pass over each blue square, making it pink. But it's too hard because there's too many enemies. The gift of being able to shoot the enemies doesn't really help much. It's games like this that make me wish that the Lynx had a Game Genie. Plus, the life counter isn't on the screen when you play (you have to press a button to make it appear.) Maybe if they got rid of the timer and replaced it with the # of lives remaining. What they should have done i
I have decided to pull the plug on Super Giuseppe. Seeing as what Nintendo did with Princess Rescue and everything, I decided not to risk it. I sure am glad I got a copy of Princess Rescue, though, and will cherish it forever. I guess this whole thing is due to Nintendo's greediness that someone else is profiting off the Mario franchise. I wonder if they know that people are making homebrew games for not just the NES, but SNES and even Virtual Boy? Why not go after them? After all, people are ma
Another thing happened where I say "I'm going to sit down at the computer and I will not stop until I complete my goal." Well, the goal here was to make the high score work. So I started doing it. I put in some code. I changed some code. I rearranged the code. Nothing seemed to work. It just has to feel like working. I put in a test feature where pressing up equals 100 points. After another couple of hours, I finally got the thing working. So now the game works OK and the high score works OK to
Apparently Tandy Computers and Radio Shack made these comic books in an attempt to make Tandy Computers look cool. And every kid knows how cool it is to say no to drugs! In the back is an advertisement for stuff for kids like a VHF kit and stuff like that. But a part of me thinks this issue would have been better if it was titled "The Computers That Said Yes To Drugs!" This would, of course, get more people interested and only to find out that the computers were bad and Alec and Shanna reprogram
Looking through the 3DS games at Fred Meyer, I didn't see Super Mario 3D Land at first. I asked them if they had it in back or something because I told them it was supposed to come out today. Puzzled, he went in back and sure enough, got out about a dozen copies worth of the game. So I bought one. Then I went to the flea market. It was getting towards the end, not buying anything, when I stumbled across some Micro Machines stuff. I had gotten pretty frustrated about not finding any Micro Machine
Well, I dabbled a bit in DS Game Maker. Apart from the ugly screen at the beginning of every game that says something to the effect of "DS Game Maker was created by soandso," it's a good tool. I spent a whole lot of time trying to figure it out, but I eventually (and by that, I mean hours and hours trying to figure out what to do and how to do it, along with countless stupid error messages), I created this:
The sub at the top just keeps going left and when it gets to the edge of the screen, i
Why is it that nobody will give me any feedback on P Shooter? I'm posting it here in case someone reading this has an O2EM emulator on their computer, but apparently nobody really cares about the game. And I worked hard on it too. I added Voice samples to it yesterday, and still no response. Maybe if I add an attract mode. I tried once but failed to get it working properly. Oh well.
For some reason or another, I quit working on this game. Which seems a shame, since I really like it. But it's hard getting back into it since I need to refamiliarize myself with the code again. For example, the playfields are screwily coded. I think this was so I could get the most rooms out of the space I had in bank 2, but, again, I don't understand how this:
%11111111, %11111111, %11111111, %11111111 %10000000, %00000000, %00000000, %10000000 %10000000, %00000000, %00000000, %10000000
It's been snowing all day long nonstop from 1am to now (5:17pm). Part of the day the snow wasn't sticking, but last night it did. The Weather Channel says we got 4.9 inches, though that's just an estimate. The street near me was on the local news (it's really rare they go to S. Salem on the Portland news), but we were one of the harder hit areas. Eugene, about 50 miles south of us, got 7 inches of snow! But really, I thought it was spring. They also say we could get another 1-3 inches tonight, s
If it gets published, "Explosive Diarrhea" will be the first 2k 2600 game published since 1982. "Cosmic Swarm" and "Space Jockey" were released in that year, which, coincidentally, the year I was born. So I think 30 years is long enough. And if "Muncher" gets released and stays 2k, there will be two. I added an ending noise to ED, which now sits at 0 bytes left (it says 128 bytes, but if I would try to add something, it would say -8 bytes left.) I think it is amazing that I packed so much game i
I say, what's a better way to spend Earth Day than to work on a video game featuring insects? That's what I did, well, part of it. I added a back story into the game before the title screen and after the "banana presents" screen. I figure, if all the Playstation and other games on CD can have elaborate introductions that you can skip, surely I can. But mine is just two static screens showing images. I need to change the second screen once all the fighters have been designed. My plan is to have t
So I was watching TV. About a month ago or so, in an ad for a weight loss thing someone lost 47 pounds. But the big announcement came from another ad. There's going to be a movie out called "47 Meters Down." It's about a couple of girls who go underwater in a cage with sharks when all of a sudden, the rope breaks and they are plunged 47 meters down. I don't know why they chose meters instead of feet. Perhaps it's because they wanted the number 47 in there somewhere. Oh, and I finally got that Od
Finally got the computer back and hooked up. One problem, though, it doesn't seem to like my N-Gage very well. It says it's paired up, but if I try to send a screenshot to the computer, it will fail. I have a new clean slate. My N-Gage is charging up, so perhaps the power was too low? Although it seemed to be working just fine. I don't know. I got my Odyssey 2 stuff from off my website and that's about all I have done so far. I just got home an hour ago struggling and failing to send screenshots
I updated my avatar to reflect my current gaming status. Right now I'm really into the N64. So I put the rotating N as my avatar. It's only 36k, so it's not a really big file in size. And since I am back into the N64, this means I am going to make a new issue of Nintendo Stuff for July 2016. The N64's 20th anniversary is coming up this September 30, so if I make an October issue, it will be a 20-year anniversary issue! Anyway, I have been making Nintendo Stuff a newsletter/magazine since 1997, t
So I just bought two Pokemon Mini games. One is Tetris, and the other is Zany Cards. I bought Tetris because I love Tetris, although I think it also has something to do with collecting Pokemon, I'm not sure. The other is a couple of card games in one cart. I like Klondike Solitaire, so this will also be interesting to find out what it does. So while the games I have now don't really thrill me and compel me to play my Pokemon Mini, hopefully the addition of a Tetris game will help with that. So t
Popeye is no stranger to video games. But he was when this one came out. His last video game appearance was in the '80s. But I guess they wanted to introduce Popeye to new people. This is not the way to do it.
Popeye is not a platforming game. Rather it is a racing game that looks like a platformer. Think Mario, but your intention is crossing the finish line first. Thankfully this game has a password system so if you cared enough, you could probably google the passwords or go to GameFAQs if
While trying to take my mind off of wanting Yoshi's New Island for 3DS, I thought I'd pop in Yoshi's Island DS. The last time I played it was about 6 years ago and I remember I had to quit at a castle because it was so hard. It turns out I had abandoned the game at level 4-4. And yes it was hard. Took me a total of who knows how many lives to beat. I was perplexed on how to beat the first part for the longest time. I kept going around in circles. As it turns out, only part of that part actually
down in the depths of my brain lie horrible thoughts about middle school. but the summer before I started it, I made a newsletter and sent it to my friends. It was called Big Belch News. You may remember me talking about reviving it a few years ago, which ran for a few years. But this summer, I stopped making them. So looking through papers, I found CHEEZi, made by some kid I went to school with. I thought to myself "it looks neat! I wonder what I can do with the CHEEZi name." Since he never mad
So I just got a brand new game for the Pokemon Mini I got a few days ago. This is game #3. Game #1 was the Japanese version of Pokemon Party and Game #2 was the English version of Pokemon Party. The person on eBay wanted $40, but I put in an offer for $30 and it got accepted. This third game is the English version of Pokemon Pinball, and I really want to play it. But when it comes, I'm going to have to open the sealed box it came in. I've heard both sides of the argument of whether to open a sea
In the last blog entry, I described vinyl records as obsolete. I know they aren't, and new records with new songs are being made to this day, but IMO, it's just a niche market, like 2600 homebrews or something. Not very many people prefer records over CDs. Right now I am listening to a record. side b of "Moondawn" by Klaus Schulze. The track is called "Mindphaser" and it's 25 minutes long. Only four records I have have both sides be one track. Miles Davis' "A Tribute to Jack Johnson", Jethro Tu
I originally didn't want to put the feature in Fatso! because I didn't really like the idea. But, after a few more hours of wrestling with the code, I managed to put it in. The main problem was what to do if the mouth went off screen. For this, I implemented an invisible border, much like my previous Ants! game had, although its border was visible. And I THINK I managed to solve the problem about the game going crazy at 100 points. Still haven't gotten to that point yet in this build, although I
Here's a little bit more info on my Odyssey game I am making. It needs a red die and and blue die. Well, they really could be any color, but I wanted red and blue. I guess since they're primary colors, I don't know. I found some and I ordered them and they're on their way. I think I'll go to the office supply store and see what kind of paper they have that can be thin enough for a printer, yet thick enough for my liking. I slept all day yesterday. I think because I didn't get much sleep the day
It's been a while since I've done a 47 sightings blog entry. 47 people were in that bus that crashed in Pendleton. Conservatives outnumber Liberals in 47 out of 50 states. But the big 47 event is, you guessed it, the 47th Super Bowl. It would be cool if one team scored 47 points. The '49ers should be called the '47ers, but those lazy miners took two extra years to find gold in California. I looked on Google News to find 47 and yep, almost all the entries were about the Super Bowl. It would have
Another "I got bored" project. I had wondered since I've been thinking about 2600 games in 1990 recently (hence my forthcoming copy of Klax), and since "The Simpsons" premiered in 1990, why not put The Simpsons and the 2600 together? I don't know what YOU would get, but I got this. After the Bart Simpson blinking eyes title screen, press fire to go into the "game," which is just for now Bart as his superhero alter-ego Bartman flying in the sky. I have yet to try this on real hardware, but I am c
