Bevious

Inspired by Dragnerok X's Combat DX, I got to playing around with making a stick twirl. Then, I thought, what good use can come out of this? Then I got to thinking about Xevious for some reason (maybe because of the crosshairs). So that's when I decided to make Bevious, the B standing for Batari Basic. Since I've found Mr. Frog too challenging, I've decided to give up on it for now and start making this game. While you can start the game by pressing the fire button right away, I encourage you to

Super Bowl 41

I started taping it at 3pm and it ended at 7pm. Exactly 4 hours (well, 4 hours and 30 seconds.) The first play of the game ended in a touchdown, the first time that ever happened. Well, while the Bears made history, they lost the game, and like everyone expected, the Colts won. I lost the Super Bowl XLI contest in the Atari Age forums by 3 points. Why didn't the Colts make a field goal? They were certainly close enough to. Maybe memories of the botched extra point in the 1st quarter came up? Pri

A little sick...

Yesterday I was a lot sick. Too bad I had to get my hair cut when I was sick. But, it's a good thing the appointment ended when it did because afterwards, my head was really hot and I had to lay down for a while. That's why I wasn't on the forum (or on the internet, for that matter) since yesterday morning. I still have a whole bunch of phlegm in my throat, but at least I'm not running a fever. I just laid in bed and listened to my newly bought George Winston records I got at a thrift store (50

Happy Birthday Tom Smothers!

Tom Smothers turned 70 yesterday (can you believe it? They're still touring!), so I thought today I would listen to all my Smothers Brothers records (all three of them) in celebration. In case you haven't heard of them, the Smothers Brothers were folk singers that were very funny and very big in the 60s. They had a comeback in the 80;s. They had their own TV show in the 60's and the 80's, but their comeback was short-lived. So happy birthday Tom, wherever you are.

Phoenix Wright: Justice For All

Hey, y'all. I got Phoenix Wright: Justice For All yesterday. Apparently, it's hard to find. It came with this free stylus, but one weird thing about it is the package is mostly Japanese. Makes you wonder why they would give away a free Japanese stylus with an American game. I know originally the Phoenix Wright games were big in Japan before they were made available to America on the DS, but still... Anyway, the stylus is neat and I'll never open it, though, just to make sure the value of it is

Make Mystique Proud!

I had a dream last night about a game that I made. Now that I'm awake, I have made the game from a sick twisted dream to a reality. Now I don't want to get kicked off the forums for lewd behavior, but this game involves a certain part of a man and, well, pirahna fish. Ouch. This game would probably get an M rating if it was released now, but apparently new Atari 2600 games don't have to get rated by the ESRB for some reason (why?), but until I get an OK from a mod to post said game, I think I'll

Work

Yesterday, the people at Cal-Am decided they needed to tear up our cement driveway and put in a new one. So right now, they're getting ready to pour the cement. Also, I did some work on Mr. Frog, adding a black and white version and a PAL version, which is available. The right difficulty switch determines the PAL/NTSC versions. Mr. Frog will be my next game after GoSub, once it's finished, and hopefully someone will be able to put in the collision corner thing talked about in the Mr. Frog topic

GoSub is your PAL

Here's the latest GoSub build with PAL support. Right difficulty A is PAL and Right difficulty B is NTSC. If your emulator is set on PAL, tell me if the colors are right or not (I tested them myself, I just want to make sure they're OK. See related topic in Homebrew Discussion forum.)

No Dark Light review.

Sorry, but I just can't find it anywhere. As a last-ditch effort I'll try Toys R Us this weekend, but except for that, I'm through looking. Next up in the GBA review blog is Ghost Rider. Yeah, I know Final Fantasy VI Advance is coming out sooner, and while I do have it reserved, I did so just for the sake of collecting. Just like today I bought Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime for the DS, but I'm not going to play it. There's a couple more "great" DS games I need to get before my collection is

Top 10: January 2007

Hey y'all. Here's my top 10 Atari 2600 picks for 1/07: 1. Trick Shot 2. Midnight Magic 3. Video Pinball 4. Dig Dug 5. Word Zapper 6. Grand Prix 7. Mouse Trap 8. Hangman 9. Freeway 10. Moon Patrol   Check out Trick Shot, debuting at #1! Another newbie is Mouse Trap, in at #7. I now have 112 Atari 2600 games, and still wanting more. I can't get enough of them, I'm addicted! I just posted a topic in the Wanted forum. I really need to finish off the Atari R2s so I can be just like every

What do you think of this?

Since nobody can solve the mystery I put in the Mr. Frog topic in the Atari 2600 BASIC forum (or nobody wants to solve it,) I'm shelving it in favor of this game, working title "Smiley." The object of the game is to get points by getting the green things (what they are are to be determined later. Right now, they're just circles with a plus sign in the middle.) You have to be fast because if the green things get to the blue corners, you lose a life. (Of course, the colors are irrelavant if you're

Score 2

I went to Value Village today and bought me some Atari games. I got Spacechase, Boxing and Starmaster. The rest of the games that were there I already had. The lady that checked me out said "You found some Atari games. You have an Atari game at home?" I assumed she meant Atari system, so I said yes. I didn't tell her that I now have 108 Atari games, 8 of which I bought at Value Village since apparently people are starting to dump them off there. I wonder how come you see all these Atari games an

Mmm...fudge

Hey, kids. Welcome. I got a Vanilla Fudge album today, that makes 3, this one is on CD and bought it for the almost 20-minute long "Break Song", almost 20 minutes of instrumental late 60's rock. I like Vanilla Fudge. This is the first of their CDs I could find anywhere. And apparently, they're coming out with a new album in February! According to the website, it's a collection of Led Zeppelin covers. I wonder if they're going to do Stairway to Heaven? I also got the first season of Robot Chicke

Unfinished Symphony

More like "Symphony I Gave Up On." I'm trying to make a MIDI and am having no luck on what notes to use in the bass part (calliope 8va, track 2) once I get to part B of the song. It's the music from level 1 of Rayman Raving Rabbids for GBA, but you don't really have to know that in order to help me out here. Pick some notes that sound good with what I have (track 1 - Vibraphone and track 3 - Whistle). I don't care which, just any that sound good. I'd really like to submit this to vgmusic.com!

Pretty labels?

What do you think about these labels for the GoSub cart? Or should I just skip my own design and hold a label contest? The thing is, I want all my games to have the same kind of label, like Activision did in the early days. And since I'm working on another game which seems to be heading in the direction of actually being my second game, I want some kind of uniformity on my cart labels.

They're coming to paint my house, ha haa!

First off, I'd like to thank NeoTokeo for the new frog sprite. There's now a second sprite for jumping, but I didn't do very good at it. I also added a new screen for Mr. Frog to get through. As you probably guessed by now, yes, that boulder will be in every screen, whether it be falling, rolling, or something else for Mr. Frog.   In other news, Cal-am is going to paint my house tomorrow. I live in a mobile home made out of what seems to be tin , apparently you can paint over it. I guess they

Mr. Frog

This is Mr. Frog, a game I'm working on that's sorta like my old Super Maria Sisters. In order to move forward, you hop by pressing fire and move left or right simultaneously. To get to the next screen, you have to go to the end of the first one. Lives work, but once you get to 0, it goes back to 3. The number on the left is the screen number and the number on the right is # of lives. If you touch a boulder, you lose a life. And check out the code, I'm trying something new, code label thingees.

I'm back!

I had to be gone for a few days because the stupid phone wouldn't work. In fact, when you picked it up, you got a radio station instead of a dial tone. So someone came over (again) and fixed it. I am so sick of phone problems. Well, anyway, I just wanted to say that I'm back.

Minigame Compo 2007

Right now, I'm secretly working on projects for the Minigame Compo of 2007. This first project will be unveiled shortly after the compo starts on Feb. 1. Here's a hint though: I'm sure Rom Hunter would really love this one. Secret cutout of pic and blown up a lot is below. I'm hoping to rebound from a disastrous first year, where, as you may remember, Zyx and Ants stunned the world with how crappy a 2600 game can be. Last year, I was just programming for a month when I started those games, but

BBB

I've changed the name of this little side project I'm working on to Batari Basic Billiards, or BBB for short (or even B3 for even shorter!) Since this is only the second Atari 2600 billiards game even attempted on the system (?), I think my firing method is a lot better. Doing away with a cursor to guide your shot, you just simply move the joystick in the direction you want the cue ball to go and press fire. This, of course, limits you to 8 directions, but I think it's a lot better because the f

bBilliards

Billiards for bBasic is my next project once GoSub is done. I've been starting and tinkering around with the beginning of "bBilliards." I don't know how to make the ball go diagonally if it's hit by the cue ball at an angle, but I bet I'll figure something out, and if not, I'll go back to Maze of Pain . Here's a few screenies, I'll post the code once GoSub is finished. Right now, it's kind of like a practice game where you can set up the balls anywhere you please. I tried to put three yellow ba

100 cartridges!

With the addition of Venture, Zaxxon and Mousetrap I just got in the mail today, I now have 100 Atari 2600 cartidges! And there's more on the way from another trade. There's a big snow/ice storm here and all the schools were closed and when I called work to tell them I wasn't going to make it in, the lady I talked to said there were only 3 people in my department there! (I work at the Oregon DOT. If you live in Oregon, I can see all your driver's license info. Kinda scary, huh?) Well, for those

Arthur & the Invisibles

Keeping my promise of an Arthur & the Invisibles review soon, here it is in all its glory.   I wish this game was invisible. That way nobody else could play it. The setup is confusing, with B for jumping (in every decent game, it’s A) and the action button is A. (It should be switched around.)   I didn’t expect very much, seeing as how it’s based off a movie, and games based on movies are usually sub-par, and with this one, it didn’t disappoint.   The second level is impossible becaus

About yesterday

Well, it seems I got really lucky with Blackjack. Among all the possibilities listed for Blackjack at the AA website, I got the rarest one, a Sears picture label. And since it's a rarity 4, it's tied for the second-most rare thing I have (#1 being Strategy X.) And why did it take me so long to find Football since it's a rarity 1? It's the first Football I've seen since I started collecting for this crazy system. And there's a little problem with Atlantis, though. I don't think it's anything seri

Score!

Finally I get lucky at these thrift stores! Imagine my surprise when I found about 10 carts laying there begging for an owner. I picked up Atlantis, Carnival, Human Cannonball, Football and Black Jack. With the purchase of Football, that completes all my rarity 1s and brings me to 97 Atari 2600 games total. And with the 6 I'm expecting in the mail, that'll get me past 100! Yay me! Also, I found Arthur and the Invisibles at K-Mart, so expect a review out of me soon.
