I've updated atari2600land.com with a list of 2k games. Right now, I seem to be fascinated with 2k Atari 2600 games. I just think it's cool that you can make a game that only takes up 2 kilobytes and have it be fun at the same time. Case in point: Bowling. And what's more, I think it's better than the Wii Sports version because you can steer the ball after you throw it. And, you don't have to swing your arm at a sensor bar. I also enjoy programming 2k 2600 games. Case in point: Video Pencil. I k
I spent all friggin day working on getting the jumping in level 6 just right. I tried various things, including threatening the computer. Finally things in level 6 went my way. I had to make weird code in order for it to work, though. Level 6 is a lot like Blinky Goes Up where you will keep jumping up and up until you reach the top. Working on the computer all day has made my head hurt. It's either that or the weather. It's cold and raining. About 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
Well, I woke up at 4 this morning. Spent 6 hours working on Nice Ice, and amazingly there's still stuff to fix. Then I took the dog out at 10:30. Then after that, I put together my 6th Zwieback CD case. The album was finished a few months ago, but only now did I put it together. So now it has a really groovy case for it. Then I recorded track 1 for the new album. It's called "Rabbits covered in tin foil and maple syrup". I decided to name the album "$17.42 bill" because I thought it would be wei
Well, I decided to remove the sub shooting the octopus in the title screen. It was a little sad to see it go, but space is limited. You can still shoot the octopus in the main game, it's just in the title screen animation that it's gone. I added an ending screen. That's why the title screen code got truncated. I wanted to put in an ending screen since the original GoSub for Odyssey 2 didn't have one, it just went back to the title screen at the end. If you manage to see the ending screen in GoSu
I unplugged my Jaguar and used the exact same cords to plug in my TurboGrafx-16. How useful. My cords are long lost for it. I don't know how they got lost, they just did. So I spent a half-hour playing the only game I have: Keith Courage in Alpha Zones. I don't think it's all that bad. Insanely hard, yes, but bad, no. Except for the reappearing of enemies if you go back and forth. I kept using continue after continue (apparently there's an infinite amount of them.) to get to level 3. I can't fig
So after a two week long hiatus that involved me getting angry at attempting to program other systems, I went back to the Intellivision version of GoSub. I wanted to solve the problem of using the keypad to fire. I didn't want that to happen. So I think I have figured it out after an hour and using the controller program. The lower left fire button's value is $60. If you add a direction, it's just the direction + $60. With that in mind, I plugged away on this and I think I have figured it out. S
I think I successfully added a bonus point system in Stickman. Originally I was going to let one of the characters display the one-digit timer. When that didn't work out, I remembered that there were some unused characters in the quads. So I figured out how to make an 8 digit number: bonus number, then three blank spaces, and then the score. And I didn't break the program when I tried it out on a real Odyssey 2. So now what do I do? I'll think about it. And this time, work on the game only laste
I decided I didn't like it, so I traded it in. I then preceded to get some Odyssey 2 games I already had so I can help the homebrewers, even if it is just copies of the games I made. Well, a few other people will get my Odyssey 2 games I got. Just with a different game inside them. I stayed up late (well, late for me.) working on Boney McBones. It had been a while. I figured out that even though stuff may not work on the Homer emulator, which I thought was more accurate than O2EM, it works fine
After reading from cover to cover a book about Mad Magazine covers, I decided to design the covers of my comic book I make for myself in a "Mad" style. But what was a hot button issue of the month? I had already done a Trump cover a while ago. Hillary donned the back cover of the last issue. So I looked for another source of inspiration. I thought protesting against the national anthem was pretty dumb, so I drew this. I made the top part blank because that's where the logo goes. I was worried th
1. Grand Prix
2. Word Zapper
3. Hangman
4. Dig Dug
5. Moon Patrol
6. Ms. Pac-Man
7. Othello
8. Asteroids
9. Video Pinball
10. Jr. Pac-Man
Grand Prix takes the top spot for the fourth month in a row, but either #2 or #3 could take the top spot next month. I have been having a lot of fun with new games Word Zapper and Hangman, and another new entry at #7, Othello. Also, Asteroids, long absent from my top 10 list, makes its return at #8. See ya all tomorrow, with a report on the Blazer
Here's a little program I'm working on called, fittingly, Roulette. Right now, you can bet on black, red, or 1-18/19-36. Don't select odd/even because if you do, the world will explode (not really, I haven't programmed anything in for that option.) There's a blank space for the cursor to go to also, but that's for choosing your own number (another function I haven't programmed in yet.) The code is also available, but it's a total mess right now.
Things on TV were scarier in the 80's then they are now. Three examples of stuff that scare me whenever I run across them on tapes but aren't airing right now.
#1 -
#2 - the flying HBO logo
#3 -
What do all three of these things have in common? All three are swirling and look like they are about to come out of the TV. I remember hiding behind the couch for the flying HBO logo when I was a kid. I am still scared of #1 and #3, but have gotten used to #2, I figured out how to play t
Seeing as how absolutely nobody has made a Ghosts (Nine Inch Nails) MIDI yet, I decided to try my hand on it. So here's a WIP of 1 Ghosts I which you can download here. I still need to work on some note changing and maybe some instrument changing but I think I have the basics down. I think it's not bad for a couple hour's worth of work, what do you think? Also, I've been getting into MIDIs a lot lately, I made one for the title screen for Zoop for Game Boy. I've been downloading some, too. There
I got 4 Playstation games in the mail today.
Bubsy 3D - flat -out sucky. Controls should be more like Mario 64 instead of left and right moving the camera.
Space Invaders - good, but hard. I couldn't make it past Pluto on my first attempt.
Pac-Man World - looking good (so far...)
N2O - cool game, like Tempest, extra cool unlimited lives code!
Am always looking for more stuff I might be interested in (platform, puzzle, racing, pinball, arcade.)
So that's what I did today.
Just got back from going to the beach. We weren't able to do things we wanted to because Mom took the dog with us and it was hot over there and we couldn't leave the dog in a hot car. But other than that, it was OK. My legs hurt because I did a lot of walking while I was there. Walking on the beach, picking up shells and rocks and stuff. I picked up a perfect rock to paint like I did last year. This year I picked up a nice round rock that I'm going to paint a jack-o-lantern on. And I filmed the
I bought a book on April 17. It hasn't come yet. And if it doesn't come by May 5 (the end of the due date), I'm just going to lie and say I got the book and give positive feedback. I don't want to hassle with any stupid opening some dumb claim for a $7 item. Besides, they said it shipped, so it's probably the dumb post office's fault I never got the damn thing. Life is beginning to be unlivable for me. Now that and the stupid GoSub 2 problem I have where levels 1 - 12 don't work. I'm just frustr
I was playing Scrabble on my game.com. I had made "quieting" and was about to make another long word when the screen went blank all of a sudden! I am so mad! Because I had EANING and a blank! I was in the middle of trying to find a spot for a new word during my turn when it went out on me. And I was ahead too, but only by 30 or so points. Well, I guess lesson learned. Never play Scrabble ever again on the game.com because who knows when it will decide to crap out on me. I tried to reset the cons
So I was cleaning up my Stickman code a little, deleting unnecessary blank lines and stuff. It totaled out to 1,218 lines of code. But probably half of that is blank lines i use to separate stuff, so it's probably more like 600 lines of ACTIVE code. Which one of the longest games I've worked on had 4,000 + lines of code uncleaned. That would be the Celery thing. I guess I should be amazed. But not all that amazed because I just keep adding stuff in day by day and when you do that, gradually your
Despite the fact that I have 46 Dreamcast games and a 47th one on the way and should be here today, there are still a few that I would like to own, but are about $20 or so on eBay. One I would like to have is South Park Rally. Despite Chef's Luv Shack being a horrible game, and more of a party game. I want to see how well they did at racing. Another one I want is Donald Duck: Going Quackers. But less so since I don't really like Disney stuff all too well. But seeing the Disney World Racing game
I got Championship Pool and Jurassic Park in the mail. They are late releases for the NES, both from 1993. Now it makes me want to buy homebrew games for the NES. I only have one that I've never played because I don't have enough room in my room for it: Tailgate Party. I doubt I could do it because space is limited, and I don't have a cornhole board. I do have the power pad, though. I also bought the camping games game. The NES, late in life, had some truly remarkable games on it. Kirby's Adve
Since I highly doubt Al is going to release a cart with a name belonging to Nintendo, in the end, I think I'll have to think up a different name for the Kirby game I'm working on (of course, he never did release 'Jack and the Beanstalk'). I was thinking briefly of "Blobby is Going Home", but in the end, decided not to. If Al doesn't want to release it, I'll have either Shawn Sr. or neotokeo release it. Of course, this is a long way away. Development of the game has just started. I'm just thinkin
Thank Goodness It's Friday! Joe Friday, that is. I'm starting a review section for 1950s TV DVD packs. There aren't very many out there, though. This first one you might have guessed is for Dragnet, the '50s version of Cops only with scripts. Found at FYE for only $20, this package from Madacy Entertainment Group contains 5 discs. As you might have guessed from such a little-known company, there are some mistakes. For example, in Disc 1, the fifth episode is actually listed as the first, which m
So I was looking for an inspiration for a cover to the song I just finished. You know, like a CD cover. Mom works downtown and she got me some pictures for an unrelated website, I wanted something green. I don't know, I just like different things in the series I do to have #1 be blue, #2 be green, and #3 be red. Sometimes I may mix things up a little and have a #2 be red and #3 be green. Well, anyway, I was looking through a few pictures, and found a mainly green patch of color among a mainly bl
Happy D-Day to all of you. To celebrate, I made a 3D crossword puzzle. Well, not the kind of 3D you are thinking of. The 5 longest answers have 3 D's in them. So that's at least 15 D's in this puzzle. It's just another example of me using the new Across Lite program I stumbled upon. This thing is really helping me out. I just love it. Yesterday, I also made a crossword with it, I titled it "An A For Effort" because the only vowel used is A. So I guess you could say it's a crossword that doesn't
Earlier this year, Atari Charles e-mailed me requesting I make an Alien Greed 5. At the time I couldn't since I had asked Neo and he said he didn't want me to. But since Neo apparently disappeared off the face of the earth (he was last posting in early July), I have decided to go ahead and just do it. I had programmed a potential Alien Greed 5 game in September, but never showed it to anyone...until now. Alien Greed 5 has no publisher (and isn't finished so there's no boss stage yet) and no defi
