3DS Fun

I'm really exploring my 3DS lately. Owned the thing for nearly a year without knowing that you can go on the internet with it. Just tried it today. The only thing I went to was AtariAge. I also am intrigued by the Nintendo 3DS title "Crosswords Plus," coming October 1. I hope it's better than Nintendo's previous attempt, "CrossworDS" on the DS. I hope it will be available, unlike Shifting World, which I had to get over the internet because it wasn't in stores. Another game I'm anticipating is th

3DS

While I've been so focused on my new Wii-U, I've forgotten about the other modern gaming system I have: the 3DS. (My X-box 360 doesn't count because I never play it. I once tried to sell it to the game trading store, but it was too old or something. It works just fine.) Anyway, I just got back from a trip to Wal-Mart, and, along with a yummy Subway sandwich (they have a Subway restaurant inside the Wal-Mart), I got Rayman Origins for the 3DS. Another one of those games where nobody knows the rig

3DS

I just got two 3DS games. I've reviewed Boulder Dash XL-3D and you can view it here: http://www.atari2600land.com/3ds/ and I also got Crush, which I will open and play sometime next week. I forgot about my 3DS and haven't been playing it at all lately. It's been like a month since I last did Luigi's Mansion 2. Turn it on and lo and behold it still has 3 bars of power left even though I haven't used it at all in a month. I also got Pikmin 2 for the Gamecube as well as Lumines for the PS2, so I ha

That's the number of comic books I've made (mostly for myself and my mom) so far. It's called "Bill & George" and it's kind of like my diary in comic book form. I recently found issue 1 (made in October of 1994, right before my 12th birthday), and I had been missing it for a little while. It was like I had found issue 1 of Action Comics or something. Where was it? Right between issues 80 and 81. I have a huge stack of all Bill & Georges I've made so far. It's really tall, and I'm surpris

355*

I was bored, so i convinced my mom to play Scrabble with me even though I always win. Well, this time, I think I broke my record for most points. I beat her 355-231. Well, we cheat a little. What do we do? We trade letters sometimes if someone has lousy letters, and sometimes I help her if she's taking too long and can't think of anything. What put me over the top this time was a bingo (+50 points for using all my letters). Building off of THEM, I made YEARNED and THEME. Of course YEARNED was on

355 days of Giuseppe

Well, I've worked on Super Giuseppe for about a year now. I'm counting the times I've just given up on it but had an urge to finish the game. Well, the game is in level order now. Level 1 goes to level 2, which goes to level 3, which goes to level 4. Took me at least a few days of trying to code it just right so it does that. Looking back on Giuseppe, this is what it looked like when it was first being worked on: And here's what it looks like now. Level 2 had its share of changes. Original

33

As much as I like the number 47, there is another number that is bugging me. It's 33. That's how cold it has been all day long. If it only got to 32, then it might snow or something, but right now it's just rain. And 33 degrees. I woke up a few times last night and opened the window to see what it was doing, but I didn't see any snow. Maybe tonight...

32X fun

Someday I hope to have a complete 32X game collection. With there only being a few dozen titles, it will probably take me not very long, or at least not nearly as long as it has to amass my 320 2600 titles. So far I have 7. Not very many reasons to plug two things in. I've got Doom and Knuckles and the rest aren't very interesting. Why is it that sports titles are so common? Maybe game developers should take a hint and stop making them if hardly anyone plays them. I mean, I like NBA Jam, but I'm

32x again.

So I got the 32x out from the garage. It survived a few feet high-up fall to the concrete. No cracks or anything. And it works good, too. I ordered Primal Rage off eBay. I was going to get T-Mek as well but I thought for a second. I already had it. I looked for a previous blog entry. I found that I had already bought it. And then I found the copy I had bought. I just saved myself about $25. So then I just need the 2nd WWF game (Why were there two of them made for this console?) and then I'll be

32X - getting out.

I have decided to get out of the 32X. I never play it any more. While I am keeping a few titles, the majority of games I will be selling. That being said, I am keeping the 32X console. I have the 32X set up now to test Kolibri and Knuckles, which I put in the marketplace, but let me know what you want and I'll let you know if I have it. I will, except if it's one of the utlra-rare ones that sell for hundreds of dollars on eBay. I can also test it for you if you want. So anyway, I'm into smaller

32X

I feel guilty for buying stuff on eBay that people are "watching." I'm all like "sorry, but I want this and I have the money to get it." Anyway, while I am adding to my 32X collection, and I know I don't have enough money for either Spiderman or World Series Baseball, I'd like to get as much of a complete collection as I can. I found my 32X in the garage. I was looking for it yesterday out there and I couldn't find it. Turns out it was in the bottom box in a stack of boxes, so I had to move some

32X

I have decided I am not going to sell my 32X after all. It was one of the things I was going to sell next month, but after getting it out and playing it, I've decided to keep it. One thing was all the games I have. About half the entire library, 20 or so titles. The second thing was the games I had for it. The third thing was the fact that I could get a few more games I don't have for it for under $20 each. I do have an extra Genesis with a broken reset button I'll sell, though. And I realized t

32X

So I tried to stay up Saturday Night because there was a show I wanted to watch that came on at 4am. I made it until 2am then had to go to bed. And I slept. I woke up at 12pm briefly to take the dog out, then went back to sleep and slept until 5:30pm. So I woke up about an hour ago. Right now I am digging the 32X, I just got T-Mek off of eBay, but boy the prices are ridiculous! They have really shot up! And I got e-mail access again, as it turns out my bookmark stopped working so I made a new on

32X

Well, so I went to the used video game store today. Got a 32X with 5 titles (mostly sports. blech.) for $40. So I go home, and I tried to find my Genesis. After a half-hour of looking and getting nowhere, I decide to just give up. I went to the nearer store and got a Genesis. So, with Genesis and 32X in hand, I spent about 15 minutes trying to hook them up to each other. When I was done, I put in a game and voila! It lives! Now I want a complete collection because there's only 37 games for it. A

32KB and Working

So I tried my ROM out on a real NES and found it wasn't working. I spent a few hours trying various things until I got it working again. I have no idea what I did to make it work, nor do I know how it got broken in the first place. But the most important thing now is IT WORKS. Albeit I seed the random number generator every time you get on the title screen, but like I said, IT WORKS.   I added a random number generator to solve the problem of the shake's y position always being the sam

32KB

So I finally learned how to make my game be larger than 24kb. It is now 40kb, which is the same size as Super Mario Bros. If I needed more room, I'd need to use a mapper. Not entirely sure what a mapper IS though, but I'd need one. Took some time out to make a cover for the all-new Nintendo Power. I drew the beginning of a comic as well. I figure since there is no magazine called Nintendo Power anymore, I can make one.   This will be a magazine about homebrew NES games. Whil

32k

I see a pattern arising here. My Mr. Celery episodes are 32k. And now that I am working on Mr. Ultra for Game Gear, I think I am just going to make it a 32k game as well. Although there are some differences. The Atari 2600 was made so long ago that in order to make a 32k game, you have to do a ton of bankswitching (8 banks in a 32k game.) With the Game Gear, a 32k game is just two banks. My include files for Mr. Ultra are only about 1 or 2 k, so my plan unless I am unable to do so, is to put th

32*1024

So I have the code back again to one bank of 32k. I read that to use a game on an Everdrive (which I am going to get), it should be in powers of 2, which 48 isn't. So I figured out how to change the size of c000, which is 48k, down to 32k, which is done by multiplying 32 * 1024, which gives a hexadecimal value of 8000, which I inserted, and it worked. Now I have approximately 50% of my space free. I have been working on level 3 yesterday. I need to change the hole color to brown and compose some

313

I got three Atari 2600 games in the mail today: Crash Dive, Dishaster and Marine Wars. At first Marine Wars didn't want to work. I didn't have any q-tips, so I just kept putting it in and out and finally it began working. Does anyone have any idea why that happened? So anyway, that brings my total to 313. My original goal was 300, but now I've passed that. Now the goal is to get as many as I can. Well, anyway, that's today's news.

30% finished

So I got in the urge to get angry work on Snowman's Land for the ActionMax. It took a half-hour for one minute's worth of game. I now have four minutes completed out of 13 total. That means I'm 30% finished. I designed a cover for the game, which led me to save it on my website, which led to an ActionMax website I hadn't updated in quite a while (Bubba's Buck Blastin' was mentioned as not finished yet.) Yes, the computer is still being super slow. I went to sleep at 1am and didn't wake up until

30%

That's the chance that snow will fall here tomorrow. Not very likely, but might be possible. And if not then, then there's more chances this weekend. (I don't know how since the lows will be a little above freezing.) In other news, the 2005 Super Bowl had Paul McCartney play at halftime, not Janet Jackson. So when did the Janet Jackson thing happen? Must've been 2004. Doesn't seem like that long ago. I only recorded the commercials of the 2003 and 2004 Super Bowl. It was in 2005 that I decided t

3,341 words

That's how many words are in my e-less novel so far. After taking a break from it yesterday, I returned to work on it. At first, I was going to use numbers 0-9, even though when spelled out some of them contained the letter E. But then I got to thinking it wasn't really neccessary and found a way to put a reference to 9/11 in there without using numbers or the letter E. I am, though, guilty of using abbreviations, like WWW for internet, even though WWW stands for World Wide Web. I also used URL

3-D depth on the Virtual Boy?

Wow, who would have thought? I had some trouble with this. I tried it and they said I got it backwards. So I tried it again, reversing the number from positive to negative and I think this looks better than my first attempt. I am not sure I have the eyes for the Virtual Boy. I can see the tip of my nose. When I hold my hand in front of my face, it sort of doubles and gets blurry. I don't know if it's crosseyed or lazy eyes or what, but the Virtual Boy doesn't really work that much for me. Plus t

3 rarity 4s

Well, the stupid mailman still is coming between 4-5. Luckily, I got Crackpots, Fast Eddie & Bermuda Triangle in it. I also got some new shorts. And I also got some garlic and herb bran crackers. They taste surprisingly good for them being bran crackers. That's it for today.

3 packages in one day

So big haul today. And I didn't even have to go out to get it. Although I did go out earlier to mail the Cellar-y Celery games. I got three Game Boy Games. And a DVD. The DVD is the one I ordered about Queen Elizabeth. It's from 1912. Box says extras are two short subjects from 1912. A short movie called "Cousins of Sherlocko", followed by an Edison film about Jack and the Beanstalk. Had no idea Edison was making movies as late as 1912. So I was working on stitching together two long songs from
