I don't like the letter e. It looks like an upside down lowercase a. Perhaps I should hate the letter a because it looks like an upside down lowercase e. I also don't like the letter e because I'm trying to write a novel without it. I doubt it will ever get published though, even though it has a novelty gimmick of not once having the letter e in it. How do I know? I am writing it in Word, and I CTRL+F find the letter E. If I mistakenly use it, I delete it and find some other way to phrase what I
Well, after wrestling with the code for a few hours, I finally (with help) got the title screen to toggle between two choices: New Game and Load Game. The guys on Planet virtual Boy say that coding progress saves is easy, so I'm going ahead with my project here, even though it can only be played with an emulator (i don't know if you can burn it onto a cart with a battery, like Virtual Boy Wario Land. I wonder if you can erase battery data on Virtual Boy cartridges and make your own.) I need to w
I've got to working on The Legend of Helga again. You've probably forgotten or never heard of it, so here it is in a nutshell. I'm making a Zelda-type game for the Virtual Boy. Way back in 2010 when I first started on it, there wasn't much to it. Now, there still isn't much to it, but there was more than before. Here is what you can do so far:
+Walk around. You can walk off the screen. When I get around to it, I'll program stuff in once you walk off the screen. For now, you just walk off it.

It took me freakin' an hour to find it, but after going through tons of pop-ups and stupid hacks, I found it. The ROM to Super Mario Bros. for the NES. It shouldn't have to be that hard. Sure, you can find Atari 2600 ROMS left and right, but why is it so freakin' illegal to get a ROM of a 25-year-old game, and yet have Lynx ROMS on AtariAge? And man, these popups were misleading. They said "Click Cancel to apply for a free gift." OK, I hate the ESA. They are enforcing stupid rules. Rules that ne
As i've told in previous blogs around this time, I don't like this time of year. Yes, April Fools' Day is coming up. It's not that I don't have a sense of humor, but I tend to take things too seriously and get really mad as to finding out it is only an April Fools' Day joke. That, and I think it's a stupid holiday. But at least there's one good thing about it, it's my Dad's birthday. He turns 65 on April 1. So, I'll give him a call, and on the weekend after that, I think we're taking him out to
- my sister has all her kids' presents mailed here so they wouldn't see them. Mom opened one of the boxes and on the receipt of one of them was a two-digit number, among other long numbers. It was 47. - when going to the store, I saw two coloring books for adults. Their covers proudly proclaimed each of them had 47 different pages to color. - The Tennessee Titans beat the Green Bay Packers in the NFL yesterday. Green Bay got 25 points. Tennessee got 47. - While watching the news's weather segmen
I decided that since bB now has 64k, that I can continue working on Plim. I ran into the same problem even with the extra 32k: I have too many playfield and player1, player0 commands. Since these are stored in the last bank, even with 16 banks, I still have only 117 bytes left in a nearly-empty bank 16. Also, a while back, I made a magazine. It was a simple, 12-page magazine with stuff I found interesting. I had promised an issue 2, and had a nearly complete one on the old computer. So I thought
Whenever I get an eye or head ache or something like that, I have to have a towel on my pillow when I go to sleep. This is a tradition of mine since when I was a kid I had to vomit and I couldn't get to the bathroom in time. To make matters worse, I was laying in my parents' bed for some reason. So the problem was solved by putting a towel on my pillow. Another thing about reminiscing, I can't remember hardly anything earlier than 1993. It was in 1995 that I made the shortlived newsletter for my
Well, right now it's way more than 50 what with all the homebrew efforts lately. I said I would reveal my next Odyssey2 project on my fourth anniversary of joining videopac.nl forums. It just so happens that it's tomorrow. I'm glad it wasn't a couple days ago because I'd be SOL because the game hasn't been working like I've wanted it to be. But I think I've fixed everything that needed to be fixed and will post my latest creation over there at 12:01am my time - August 24. I think I've given away
Well, after searching for this title for like a million years (the other being Wario's Woods), I looked at the Goat Store and lo and behold, they had the Jungle Book. (Still have to search for Wario's Woods, though.) The main reason for wanting this game is because of its elaborate secret cheat system. All you have to do to access it is to go into the sound test and play sounds 40, 30, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, and 15. I doubt anyone here has this game though (it's kind of rare). From there it goes to
I wanted to play some Ruiner Pinball for Halloween. Naturally this required getting the Jaguar out. So I went in the garage. The first thing I found were the games. Then I found the controller. Next, I found the AC adaptor, stuck inside the Turbo-Grafx 16. After about five more minutes of searching out in the cold, I finally found it. It had Syndicate stuck inside it. So I took all the stuff back into my room. Which was very hot because the furnace was on. So I turned it off. Then I went back to
I got inspired. There was a typo in a old cheesy movie catalog I get. It said the movie Millennium was 1 minute long. I said "Well, I wonder if I can make a one minute long movie." So I have decided I will. The movie will be called "The Invisible Thing From Neptune." A big, hideous alien from Neptune is invading the earth. Not only that, it's choking people. It is up to one person on the entire earth to defend us all from the invisible thing from Neptune. It will be a challenge, since all I get
So I finished the introduction to it. It isn't very complex, just a voice over over footage I shot of driving through a freeway on the forest. So I did my best redneck voice and said the intro, about a minute long, about how the alien deer are all over the forest. I am so surprised ActionMax didn't do a hunting video. It would be perfect with a GUN. Oh well, I guess I need to do it. And I am doing it. Now I need to write the ending and make credits and that will wrap things up. I want to do it o
While i was play-testing the Aaron the Aardvark game, I noticed that on some backgrounds, the white text was partly unreadable. I decided after earlier trying to change the color of the text that something else needed to be done. Then it hit me: Change the background! So I went and put in a black background in each of the four background images. I thought it diminished further the quality of the image by making it use less colors. Then another idea hit me: Put the background as a level. This way
...Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!?
That has to be one of the longest movie titles in history. Kind of like "The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain" or "Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood". Well, I just watched the MST3K version last night and I didn't get it. I forced my mom to watch it earlier today and she says it's weirder than Manos: The Hands of Fate. I totally agree. It really helps when Mike, Tom Servo and Crow are there
Well, I've always been curious as to what shipping does to a record, so I bought a cheap one I wanted. It'd be about what I paid if I went to the record store downtown. I mean, a 12" LP is pretty big, so what box would you need for it? I'm expecting this one to be delivered sometime early next week. I don't know what price shipping would be because this one came with free shipping. It's for my long song vinyl collection. The album is "Todd Rundgren's Utopia." Side B is apparently one track of 30
A possible title for the letter game I'm making. Tweaked it a little more than the version I posted in the Atari 2600 Basic forum earlier today. Not much added, just a score (life counter) and sfx. And, by the way, 3,000 people have viewed my blog! I feel like celebrating. I want a cake. Send me a chocolate one with strawberry frosting. Wait a minute, it'd probably get all smashed in the mail. Nix that. Guess I'll just have to settle for ice cream. I have ice cream. Ice cream tastes good.
So I fought some more with Game Gear programming today. Today's goal was to get a fly swatter to move around the screen. After fiddling with the palette which wasn't working correctly for reasons I don't know, I finally got a good looking fly swatter complete with hand holding it in the game with transparency. I must have worked for at least 3 hours doing this. And my right eye is beginning to hurt. So I just took some chewable pain pills. I haven't had an eyeache for a long time, and I was happ
I just got back from Best Buy with CD in hand and am currently listening to "The Gumbo Variations," a song that clocks in at 16 minutes and 56 seconds. Said song is by Frank Zappa, and is on the album called "Hot Rats." I think I may have found my equal in weirdness. I sometimes tape myself fooling around on the keyboard and "wrote" an impromptu "song" called "I Like Bacon" that's a little over two hours long. Some other titles of my songs include "Fun With Salt," "Atomic Feast," and "Abburido B
I listened to the entire song. All one hour 19 minutes of it. Well, it faded out at the end and there began a 20 second silent length, it was at the beginning that I turned it off. Why do record companies put silence at the end of almost every single song ever recorded? And not just one second, but like 10 seconds' worth? You'd think A.) If the song has a definite ending, end the song recording right at the end, or B.) If the song fades out, end at the end of the fade, not add 10 seconds' worth
No response yet from that guy I e-mailed. I spent some of Monday morning typing the list out from the book, so now you can read it.
http://www.atari2600land.com/AEGINRST.pdf
most of these are one word entries. The ones that are two words have to make SOME sort of sense or be at least something. (like "GREAT SIN" or "INERT GAS".)
Downloaded How To Destroy Angels's "An Omen" EP, so I've been listening to that most of my computer time today.
Not to tiptoe over my Star Box topic, but I think I might have found a new entry for the Great Aeginrst Machine. For those who aren't familiar with it (which is probably all of you), it's a listing of 157 words, names, and such that use the letters AEGINRST all together in different formations. My example would be #158. "ART INGES" That is people named Art Inge. Well, how many people are named Art Inge? More than one, so it can be technically possible! (And, even if it was just one person, we ca
I finally got a green background with a red snake! So what's next? I don't know! I would like the snake to go faster and add a second blue snake for the second player to move around. But for now I'm happy with what I have. I would like to make a full game out of this, but I don't know. I think this is a pretty good start for someone who has no idea of what they're doing. And I bet the snake is happy as well. Slithering around on nice soft grass instead of concrete.
I thought to myself, why not try the pliers? So I opened the pliers a fraction of an inch and put it around the screw. I then turned the screw leftwards. Slowly but surely and after a few slips, I had unscrewed the screw and opened the cartridge up! The next step was to put the Everdrive board into the Game Gear. I did that, turned it on, and loaded my game. The graphics are all messed up. I was reading on SMS Power's website when I saw that some Game Gears have a BIOS and check to see if a game
So I only had 11 minutes of my allotted 16GB handheld camcorder left. Time to buy a memory card. Man those things are expensive. I spent $23 for a 4 GB one. I spent the entire ride home trying to make the camcorder record onto it but to no avail. I just couldn't find the right setting on the infinite amount of menu options and garbage. Does all that crap really have to be on there? Anyway, when I got home, I tried looking for the manual, but I couldn't find it. So I went to Sony's website, enter
