I can drink water again!

Had another one of my choking fits. This one was the worst one I've ever had. I tried to eat a burger at 1pm. It got stuck in my throat. I tried all sorts of things: trying to eat more food, cough syrup, water, bubbles from soft drinks, induced burps, all sorts of stuff. Nothing worked. I tried sleep but I couldn't sleep because I realized I couldn't swallow my own saliva without choking on it. Finally, at 11:30pm (yes, it was 10.5 hours of suffering), I vomited up the offending piece of food, n

Fooling around with assembly part 3

Last night I went to work on this thing again. I had an idea for a song that had a pattern of 7 short notes followed by a longer note. And for the life of me I couldn't get it to work! I tried everything and spent about an hour looking at previous codes I had done and then trying them in this thing but nothing worked until I decided to try the sequence backwards. That worked. So now that part of the code looks like this: lda MusicPtr cmp #32 bcs ResetNoteTimer

My arm hurts.

My arm still hurts from that vaccine I got yesterday. I went to bed at about midnight and woke up at around 5 a.m. because I had an acid reflux episode. They tell you to drink milk and not water. Luckily, I had some cereal and milk, so I had a bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats (it was either that or Rice Krispies.) I went back to bed at about 7 a.m. and didn't get up until 2 p.m. As I'm writing this, it's almost 7 p.m.   I am busy putting the finishing touches on Zyx #1. I can make & des

Roof! Roof!

Well, the roofers are working on my house right now. Poor dog got all exhausted barking at them. They are very loud people, and the kitchen lights came down a few times, but they are now working on getting the shingles on the roof. I went to Game Crazy and the guy there said "I have something in back I think you'd be interested in." He went back and got out an Odyssey 300 CIB. I paid $70, but then wondered how the thing gets powered. Turns out there was no power cord. He gave me my $70 back. The

Level 9 will be a metropolis. With big skyscrapers and stuff. Downtown on Main Street. I spent all day on this, adjusting the buildings so they fit certain guidelines and all. I need to make a song for this level and then make level 10 and an ending and then test it and then it will be finished.

Happy Birthday to me!

Today is my birthday! The Blazers gave me an early birthday present and actually won last night, beating Seattle 110-106! It looked as though Seattle was going to win, but Ime Udoka got a rare rebound off a Portland free-throw attempt. What really helped cement the win was Seattle missing a three-pointer. And what really helped even more was Portland getting the rebound. And what really helped even more was Portland got fouled with a half-second left and got two free-throw attempts. I'm also go

Make Mystique Proud!

I had a dream last night about a game that I made. Now that I'm awake, I have made the game from a sick twisted dream to a reality. Now I don't want to get kicked off the forums for lewd behavior, but this game involves a certain part of a man and, well, pirahna fish. Ouch. This game would probably get an M rating if it was released now, but apparently new Atari 2600 games don't have to get rated by the ESRB for some reason (why?), but until I get an OK from a mod to post said game, I think I'll

Madden NFL '98

+ Company: EA Sports & THQ+ Release Date: November 1997+ Size: 16 Megabits+ ESRB Rating: K-A(For those outside of the U.S., when I refer to "football", I mean American Football, not "soccer.")Gee, I thought I knew a lot about football. I guess I don't. For instance, what is an audible, and why call it? Well, anyway, I dove right into Madden NFL (no pun intended) even though I had no clue what I was doing. I gave up twice (reset the SNES) after the opposition scored a field goal and I failed

Throat stuff part 2

I tried to take one of my pills and choked on it. Thankfully it ended after a few minutes. But that's it. No more big huge pills I have to take every day for some other stupid thing I have wrong with me. This after I went to see the doctor about it. He prescribed me some stuff that may help and proceeded to make an appointment with the gastrointestinal people, which will knock me out and stick a camera down my throat to see what is wrong with me. Which I am afraid I may have to do if this medici

1,000 lines of buggy code

I sure am glad I caught a rather nasty bug in my game. While working on it, I stumbled upon the fact that the game goes wacko if you reach wave 16. Now I didn't expect anyone to get that far (I wouldn't have if I didn't cheat and make the waves change with 1 point instead of 200.) I found the problem: A good ol' goto command inside a gosub. This is a big no-no, as it causes the stack to increase until the game crashes or something bad happens (in my case, the game quit working and the score bega

Hydra

Note: When trying to make a RoadBlasters clone on the Lynx, do better than Hydra did. While the game is pretty enough, the gameplay isn't all that good. Collision detection is off, even more so when you're turning. It's hard to get the fuel balls when there's too many enemy ships to shoot at. And I often run out of fuel and crash into ships, two things I don't do on RoadBlaster on the NES. And when the game is over, the screen shakes for about half a minute and pressing buttons frantically does

Aegis Games

Aegis Games, a little thing I made up, is starting as of right now. Thanks to the kind people at 8 Bit Classics, any game I make will be for sale from now on. The first title under the Aegis Games name is Super Maria Sisters. For more info, check out the official Aegis website at http://www.atari2600land.com/aegis/ It's not a very pretty website, but I plan to update it to make it look pretty as time goes on. Just ignore that "starts August 1, 2006" thing at the bottom. Once Aug. 1 rolls around,

The tale of my new 800XL

Hey kids, I went to that used video game store again. Found a guy cleaning what looked like an old computer. I asked them about it, and they said it was an Atari 400. There were two of them, one had a disc drive, the other didn't. Also there was a Sinclair, but I didn't get it. So I waited until they were done cleaning it and bought it along with 5 games. As it turns out, the computer itself says Atari 800XL, apparently they need to go back to school to learn numbers (j/k!) Well, I spent $40 and

Begone, ugly brown!

So I noticed that there was an ugly brown that showed up taking up the entire screen when switching between screens. I looked at the color palette in Emulicious's palette displayer and saw what color it was switching to. To change it to black, I had to change the palette in all the sprites I was using. I always hate using GIMP because it takes like 3 minutes to open it up because it's looking for fonts I don't use. So anyway, once that was done, I successfully got rid of the ugly brown. Now it's

Jaguary

No, not January, Jaguary. It was time to clean up my room a little bit. Me and mom went to the book store. I was unable to find the book about bananas. Since this was the last trip of the day, it was time to put the car in the garage. As I was looking through my vast collection of video game crap, I saw the Jaguar and games. So I decided to move my Dreamcast and a couple other boxes I wasn't using back out there and bring the Jaguar in. Once all the wires were set and plugged in, I put a game in

Back on the slopes

So the skiing mountains are closed (due to COVID). But that won't stop me from skiing. In fact, I spent all afternoon skiing. I was working on my Skiing game for the Channel F. I set out to fix all the things that were wrong with it. I think I succeeded. But there's just one thing left: The game has no goal. And I'm at a loss for what I should do with this. Should it be like SkiFree and have a Yeti come by and eat you up? If so, he'd have to be either a red, green, or blue one. Or should I just

Microvision homebrew (part 9)

I tried and tried to open a Microvision cart but they just won't open. Anyway, I opened the package of my Propeller Chip and compared it to the width of the spot where I suspect the Microvision's chip is (right under the cartridge label). The Propeller cart is wider than the Microvision. So it wouldn't fit inside the console as is. The Microvision's chip has pin-like things while the Propeller chip just has a long strip of white, which I assume is sort of like the same thing. Anyway, the Paralla

gosub instead of goto

I spent a few hours last night trying to squish a few more bugs in Alien Greed 5. Then I went to sleep at 6pm. I was awakened by a dumb stupid cat crawling on my bed meowing at me at 4 am. Like always. Sigh. Anyway, when I got up, I decided to look at the code. I think it might have become clear what might have been causing the problem: I was using goto instead of gosub. But I still don't know why the problem didn't occur every time if that happens to be the fix. Sometimes when the game ended, t

Life is crap

I've decided to stop programming video games. Any new ones, anyway. I'll finish up what I have and then quit altogether. Perhaps my mood will get better and I won't say "life is crap" anymore. It seems most of my rage and frustration in life comes from the fact that I can't do what I want in programming. I know stuff I want to do is possible but god forbid I know how to do it. And then so I ask for help and nobody replies. Well, that's it.   So I have Golf and Frank the Fruit Fly. Golf

A musical ant

One of my things I hate the most is having ants in the house. One of the joys in my life is composing music. So I figured "Why not combine the two and make music about an ant?" So yesterday, inspired by the CD I bought from Germany which is one 42-minute long track, I have decided to compose a musical about an ant. I'm 13 minutes into it which is fast because I just started work on it yesterday. I'm at the point in the musical now where the ant has just entered my bathroom. Which is fitting beca

Dreamcast

So I got two Colecovision games in the mail today. I didn't want to hook up my Colecovision, but I did it to test them. I couldn't control the airplane in Looping, and I only got to stage four in Gorf. I had been working on the fruit fly game. I doubt I'll call it "Bananas are Good" any more unless someone can produce a banana screen in asm and put it in my bB game somehow. My dumb new computer is bothering me about wanting me to do stuff to it. I long for the good old days of Windows 95 when co

CD printing services?

Does anyone know of a service that can print on blank CDs, make a cover and then you can take them and burn songs on them with your computer? I ask this because I make music CDs for myself, I listen to my own music I make, and I'd like to have at least one be a pretty professionally-designed-looking one. I can print my own jewel case inserts just fine, but I can't print directly on to a CD. Even if I could, it would have the SONY brand name and CD-R AUDIO and other crap on it so it wouldn't be b

My stupid computer (part 2)

Everything has been going good with the computer I have, but I'm wondering about getting a new one still. I got this one in 2012, so it's 3 years old now. I do a lot of art stuff, like record albums of me playing the keyboard, making drawings and using Photoshop, and of course making video games. I think I read that a Mac is better than Windows for this kind of stuff, but I'm not sure if that's right. I mean, I've been getting along okay with Windows all my life. And of course, I'd have to wonde

2017: An Orange Odyssey

So last night I began work on Oranges for the Odyssey 2. Right now it's a proof-of-concept, but with a few months' worth of work, hopefully I can turn this thing into an actual game people will want to play. As you can see from the screenshot below, most of the stuff is in there now: man, oranges, collision detection, up and down movement for the guy. I need to add a score and left and right movement, though I don't want to today because my eye is starting to hurt. I worked on this today a littl

Indy 500 (game.com)

Right now I'm rethinking about my purchase of a game.com. Another purchase, another bad game. I finally opened up Indy 500. I found that I go about two seconds racing and then crash, sometimes into absolutely nothing. Two seconds later, crash, repeat ad nauseum and that's what this game is. And even if you didn't crash every two seconds, you couldn't pass the guy ahead of you because he automatically gets in front of you. There is no faking that dumb idiot out! So now I have six games, will soon
