I love crosswords, both making them and solving them. I've made a few really big ones, 29x29, which is bigger than the Sunday ones and even bigger than the 25x25 one in every issue of Games magazine. A while back I must have posted a blog entry about this, but last night I finally got around to making the clues for it. Checking to see if I use the same words twice is a hassle, but needs to be done IMO. After the clues are all sorted out and there are all non-repeated words, then I can call the t
For Christmas, my mom got me a 1/36 scale orange Volkswagen because I said that was my favorite type of car. I don't have an orange Volkswagen, heck, I don't even have a learner's permit, but if I ever got around to learn how to drive, I would learn how to drive an orange Volkswagen beetle. Every time we drive by this certain road in my city, there is an auto collision repair place, and always sitting there is a non-moving orange Volkswagen. I don't know if it works. I don't care if it works, bu
I was extremely bored. So I thought I'd give Doom for the Jaguar another go. I got as far as level 3 when all of a sudden, I kept walking around in circles. I swear I must have killed every single creature there because I had no idea where I was going. After about 20 minutes of this, I fell into the lava and couldn't get out of it. I said "Screw this," and gave up. So why people think that was fun in the '90s is still a mystery to me. I want to love the Jaguar, I really do, but there are almost
I get in different moods for different consoles. Like today, I'm in a Dreamcast mood. I looked on eBay. Why are the prices so horrible? $20 for a used Dreamcast game. $20 for Rayman 2. $20 for Donald Duck. $20 for just about every possible game I might be interested in I don't have. I guess I have all the good games I want and I'm just looking for stuff I might be interested in that apparently other people are interested in too. I think the Dreamcast is a great system, and I almost wish I had on
The cat thing wasn't going anywhere, so I decided to try another project. First I needed an idea. I looked at all the 2k games for the Atari 2600. I stopped at Kaboom!. I thought "Since Alien Greed 5 is kind of like Kaboom!, why not port the original Kaboom to the Odyssey 2?" So I worked for a few hours and got this:
The guy moves left and right, but doesn't drop bombs yet. And since Activision is still a game company and probably still holds rights to Kaboom!, I am going to call the game "Dr
While many people poo-pooh it and say it sucks, I have come up with a few reasons to like it. #1 - the controls. You point the gun. You shoot it with the trigger. No millions of unreachable buttons and painful-to-use like an Intellivision controller. No millions of buttons like a Jaguar controller. After half an hour of playing an Intellivision II, my thumbs hurt because the fire buttons are square and the edges puncture my skin. And if you don't reach the target in time, you only have yourself
Ever since I bought a game.com used from someone here on AtariAge a few years ago, I've often wondered why nobody has come up with a game.com homebrew yet. We have an emulator, we have ROMs. Why won't someone look at those ROMs to see how they work and make a compiler for Game.com games? Just about every other non-successful (to put it generously) system has one: Virtual Boy, Game Gear, Pokemon Mini, even the N-Gage apparently), but STILL NOT GAME.COM. Why is this? I have about a zillion ideas t
Now I have a new obsession: Obtaining every Game Boy Advance Video known to man. Except one: The Shrek/Shark Tale dual movie one. Why? Well, why did they make this? They both have separate carts. Perhaps it was a show of power for all to see that you could store two movies on a Game Boy Advance cartridge? Why did this obsession start? I was looking for a Game Boy Micro AC adapter so I can recharge it. I found a multi-purpose one that seems to work great I got for $6. So now I need to find someth
I'm playing with my N-Gage and the capabilities of sending pictures of files to the computer using BlueTooth. I thought I'd share a pic of Crash Nitro Kart. I didn't want to lose, so I took a picture of it in Time Trials mode. This is the first course. It's very beautiful. What other handheld consoles could do polygons and stuff like this in 2004? Well, I guess the PSP could. I doubt the GBA could pull this off, although they did do a port of Yoshi's Island, so I guess it's possible? I love doin
I hate ants. And they keep coming. In my bathroom. In the bathtub. They must come from the drain in the bathtub. Or something. Anyway, I went to Carl's Jr. yesterday and ate a burger. Well, tried to is more like it. This morning I had to go real bad. I swear that stuff makes me sick. And fat. Which is weird because the fries never did. Just the burgers. Anyway, last night before I went to bed, I worked on the Celery game because I couldn't go to sleep. Finally stopped at 9pm and went to sleep. W
There is no more time for Klax. I just got Klax for Game Gear in the mail today. The game works OK, but the gameplay itself is too hard. It would have been OK to just leave the amount of colors at 4 or even 5, but the fact that there are more than a dozen? And only a 25 space hole? Are we sure the creators of the game are not insane? I got to wave 12 and it told me to get 13 diagonals. Well, I tried and tried but couldn't. Part of the reason was the stupid d-pad kept reading left or right as UP
So I'm making another weird sounds CD. So far this album I've employed an Odyssey 2 emulator and an Amiga emulator. I used the Say program to make the computer "say" stuff, then I garbled it up until it made weird noises. I don't know if I talked about my project called "scalene triangles abounding" here yet. I made one album and called it "corn." Now I'm making the second one called "carrot." I decided to go with a theme: vegetables that begin with C. So far I've thought of this:
cauliflower
OK, I think tomorrow I'll work on some arena designing, beginning with Gi-Ant's, which is near anthills. Up to now, they have been fighting in Rumblebee's arena, even though the bee hasn't been designed yet. Behe-moth, which is now in the game, his arena will be on a porch eave. I think this is easier than my other fighting game I came up with when I was a kid. I called it "Super Highway Fighter." I have a few issues of "Christendo Power," which is full of fake games I designed (ironically, abou
Today I went to the store and got two more additions to my PlayStation collection: KISS Pinball and SpongeBob SquarePants: SuperSponge. Not exactly an ideal pair, but I like pinball and so it will go good with the Austin Powers Pinball I already have. Also, they're predicting snow here tomorrow night and Sunday night so that should be interesting to see if it actually happens (ha ha ha.) I'm totally mad at the PlayStation Museum for messing up their games page. It used to be one page filled with
I had a fear that my Odyssey 2 might not work any more. The problem was when the controller's joystick wasn't pressed, it would automatically go down. At first I thought it might be the game I was programming, perhaps something was wrong with my code. But I put in GoSub, and it did the same thing. Now I was like "Oh great, my stupid Odyssey 2 broke." So I worked on the game until I had it the way I wanted it to be (except for the sub going down when it was supposed to be still.) It was then I de
So I worked all night on this secret Odyssey 2 project I began work on. It was not functioning properly on real hardware. At about 4 am or so, I FINALLY made the stupid thing work. I still have a problem, though. But this is the best type of problem to have. I don't know what to do next. I guess it's not a secret any longer. I am going to make a game about my comic book character called "the 50 foot tall stalk of celery", or Mr. Celery for short. In this game, Mr. Celery has a problem. Vegetaria
I've decided to share the title of the game. This is all I'm sharing. What does Aaron do? Find out on Christmas. It's a Christmas present. Even though people don't really give hints about what they've got someone for Christmas. The official website of the game is up now. It doesn't have much info right now, although it will be majorly updated with info and rom before I go over to my sister's house to open my own presents and gorge myself on Chex Mix on Christmas Day. It's been a busy year for me
...well, not quite. In case you don't read the General Chat forums, I've been trying my hand at stop-motion animation lately. Since my R.O.B. has not been getting use at all, I've decided to put him in a little stop-motion video (all of about 6 seconds' worth), which you can view at ElbtUQniFUk. For some reason, this blog software does not like hyper links... It's not very good, but it's only my second attempt. I would have made it longer, but I ran out of ideas for movements for the robot to ma
Since I made an almost 80-minute-long composition broken up into little pieces, I thought I'd do another one, only this time about half-an-hour, and with lyrics. Mind you not very many, the poem is about a page long. So anyway, I present to you my newest ongoing musical project: Fred the Typewriter. Download part 1's MIDI (or sheet music if you know how to read and play it) and tell me what you think. http://www.atari2600land.com/fredthetypewriter/ My primary influence is Frank Zappa's "Billy th
A tinge of sadness here. I bought Disney's Planes for the DS even though I have no intention on seeing the movie it's based on. It's the last DS game that is ever going to be produced. So it was released August 6. The DS almost lasted 8 years. I still have my original DS I bought with 2004 Christmas money. I still have its box too. I am still wanting a goal of at least 200 DS games, though. And because there won't be any more released, I'll have to get titles that are at least a few years old of
Can someone explain something to me? Why do big evil corporations go after YouTube users who post TV shows or commercials? I could understand if the person who uploaded it gained money for it, but I DON'T. I don't really like profiting off someone else's work. Yet, some ruthless bastards who have way too much time on their hands and work for NBC must surf around YouTube and flag stuff even though the person who uploaded it isn't profiting on it and the NBC henchmen don't really give a rat's ass
I thought making the title screen using pfblocks was, well, a bit boring. So I decided to change it. This is the result:
I kind of like it. It reminds me of the Beatles' White Album cover. Only not.
Since the playfield wasn't defined and the players were defined on the title screen, this meant a few changes in order to make things fit in 2k. The background color has changed from a dark blue to a dark red. I don't know why, it just worked out that way. It's not me picking the colors. I think
...foggy, too. The fog that formed this morning is still lingering at 11am here. I just took the dog out. I've been working on Insecticide again. I wrote a short song for Panzer Dragonfly and went to test it on a real VB... the frog didn't show up. I found the reason why, more like guessed. Apparently the frog was not in the right place. Argh. So I fixed it and now he shows up on a real VB. Mednafen is great, but I wish it acted more like an actual Virtual Boy sometimes. Next up is designing Sla
My copy of Jungle Girl arrived today all the way from France. I tried to make a YouTube video of me playing the game with my camcorder so I could get the Voice usage in, but the picture was too fuzzy, so I just played it on my VCR and did it that way. The game uses the Voice module. When you power it on, it says "Jungle Girl". When you start a game it says "Help" and at the end it says "Thanks." So anyway, here is a link to my YouTube video I made of the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSh_
So I worked on Virtual Dieter again. I thought "Man, that's a horrible title. Who wants to play a video game where you go on a diet?" So I changed it to the still awful, but less so, "No Cookies." In the game, you must avoid cookies. It's a lot like Fast Food except instead of eating the food, you avoid it. I managed to do a lot in just 2k. I made a song that you can enable/disable with the left difficulty switch. You can change it from color to b&w with the b&w/color switch. It has a ti
